In the anime Bang Dream: It's MyGO one character, Anon, has a backstory where she tried to study abroad in England and then found that "good at English class in Japan" did not really mean she was fluent enough and crashed out over it. And what this means is that when we get a flashback from her perspective, everyone in it is speaking English, and are theoretically native English speakers.
And so generally when it comes to foreign languages in anime (and in most tv I assume) you just kinda politely keep your disbelief suspended that these characters are in fact native speakers. Sure, it sits oddly in a scene where Anon's accent is commented on that one of the girls microaggressing her has a noticeably stronger Japanese accent, but whatever.
But then. The third girl speaks. And she has a jarringly good British accent.
This is her only line! I have so many questions. Why did they not have this VA play the teacher, or the bully, or deliver any dialogue other than "Anyone got my book?"
i think it's really fun when a rly specific trope is super popular in one particular medium but in other ones it's just totally unheard of. it's the time knife. visual novel players are suuuuper used to death games but many others encountered them for the first time in squid games. the other day my mom showed me all excited the summary of a super original novel she found and it was about a girl who got reincarnated as the main character in her favorite fantasy book

there should be an episode of mob psycho where an orchestra somewhere is panicking because their conductor has been killed by an evil spirit and reigan shows up thinking he and mob would exorcise the spirit but mob doesnt show up for his own reasons so reigan calls him while standing in front of the orchestra. Mob doesn’t answer so reigan goes on to leave him a very long voicemail explaining the situation but while hes doing so, all his hand movements make the orchestra think hes the replacement conductor. And so they start playing to his hand movements which results in a shockingly stunning and unique performance from this orchestra. People talk about it forever. It goes down in history as a moment that changed music forever etc etc
