man. still an insane game. i'm glad it exists and excited to look through the final PDFs when they drop ^_^

eventually i'll be in a position where it's reasonable for me to own a physical copy and i live near people i can rope into it, but probably not soon >_>

i really like how this is a game that engages with Masculinity Specifically, from the perspective of powerful men, AND in a way that is largely negative and encourages you to transgress it (while doing your best to pretend you're not)

but like. it doesn't ask you to be comedically evil or anything (although you can). the fact that you're playing these men just has you doing the mental calculus that goes on as a Patriarch, and as a result making a lot of the same (often stupid and evil) decisions while knowing why that choice made sense to you

it's just kind of a perspective that feels rare in games, and when it is engaged with it's like... far too approving? there's a lot of games about being a traditionally masculine patriarch, and a lot of games about shitty patriarchs, but not a lot going "trying to fill a traditional patriarch role will have you do evil shit even as as half-decent person who's just trying to do it right", i think?

it's good. i like it. feels like a more honest and complete engagement with masculinity than a lot of things About Masculinity, from what i've seen

still very negative - it's very much a game going "yeah even if you're a cis man with no issue with the theoretical side of masculinity, the practical side of masculinity is still very much deleterious to yourself, the people around you, your relationships with those people, and probably even the job being a man supposedly makes you more qualified for. good luck!" - but deeply engaged with the subject
