You are FORCED into a cozy rural village lifestyle for the rest of your life. You cannot avoid this, but it'll be weirdly #Woke and you'll have more internet access than is normal for rural life. Also you won't starve or anything too harsh. It's cozy. Which are you picking?
Agrarian (planting crops)
Pastoral (herding animals)

I've never loved anyone as much as I love Ursula Le Guin
I don't know, sometimes it seems like plot twist/foreshadowing discourse has gone too far in the other direction. Like yeah, it's usually unsatisfying when a plot development comes out of nowhere, and it's often satisfying to put together the clues that an author left there and figure things out in advance of a reveal.
On the other hand, I've been seeing posts that assume that the only reason an author might try to surprise a reader is to like, trick or prove their superiority over the reader.
But readers like to be surprised? And readers can and do get bored when every single plot beat plays out exactly how they expect, and they can and do get frustrated when the protagonists are bumbling around trying to solve a mystery that the reader figured out 100 pages ago.
So I guess my lukewarm take is that, like so much else, the answer is somewhere in the middle, and it depends what sort of story you're trying to tell, and how you're telling it, and what else of interest is going on besides the plot. And of course, it also very much depends on the reader and what sort of story they want to read. There's no real one size fits all answer.
I love seeing posts complain about how inefficient modern computers are compared to the stuff they used for Apollo or whatever except it's been shared as a screenshot instead of a link + text so the post itself takes up more space than the entire RAM + ROM of the Apollo Guidance Computer
i believe an important kind of creative process is "i didn't know that wasn't allowed"
I understand the urge to comment on recent trends in which people seem to want increasingly sanitized media compared to the recent past, but when you say things like "people used to just shrug and move on when there were books and movies that made them uncomfortable" it's like...well. actually people used to convict artists of obscenity in a court of law.
