Hey tumblr???? Hey fucking tumblr?????
her what
does anyone know whag the rest of it says
An example of why one should use the Oxford comma.
āWhat if poor people abuse the system?ā
The system intrinsically abuses poor people.
Hope this helps.
"What if poor people abuse the system?"
Rich people abuse the system far more and out of pure greed, not necessity or desperation so idrc about that
I opened tiktok to see some bumfuck cracker say that AAVE means "Atypical Alternative Versions of English" they're fucking colonizing everything

Perhaps this is an obnoxious take on my part, but video games should, above all things, prioritize the ability of being paused. At any point. Regardless of whether it's during a cutscene, a special animation, or a time-based puzzle. You never know when you're gonna get a phone call, or someone will need you in another room, or you get a sudden urge to go to the bathroom, or you hear your cat licking plastic, or whatever. Other entertainment mediums like books, movies, and music can be paused whenever you want. Why do some games not give you the same luxury??
Special shout out to one of the gemcraft games which decided that it would be Cool And Interesting to have some special monsters which continued to move while the game was paused. And like, yes, I totally recognize that you are making an interesting artistic statement but also I am losing this level because my cat is throwing up and fuck you.
I have this theory about games that love you vs games that hate you. It has absolutely nothing to do with whether a game is good or not.
My favorite example is Terraria vs Minecraft. Minecraft is a game that hates you. If you customize your experience at all it turns off achievements. Eg. I like to turn off drop items on death, I find it tedious in the extreme. But, it means no achievements. Terraria is a game that loves you, it lets you choose whatever settings you want and you can get all but the difficulty based achievements.
Bloodborne? Dark Souls? Games that hate you. I know that if you play Dark Souls on switch and you hit the power button it doesn't pause the game. That is so disrespectful. Game that hates you.
oh that's a really good description, and i think it's noticably distinct from "difficult".
i've been playing an incremental game called Orb of Creation lately, and it's a game that loves you, for the most part. when you have a tooltip up, you can hit "T" to lock that tooltip in place so you can mouseover the tooltip and see more details or explanations about everything in it. Something says it offers a benefit to "arcanist" abilities? Freeze tooltip, mouse over "arcanist", and see a list of example abilities that are affected. Not sure why you're gaining or losing a resource? Click on the resource and get a detailed list of where it's coming from and where it's going and why.
It's not perfect, but it's very good and it is just such a delight compared to a lot of incrementals.
(I note, it is an incremental, it is not an idle game.)
Washington Post is paywalling the article but it looks like Taylor Farms ā a consumer bagged salad brand that also supplies produce to grocers and fast food chains like Taco Bell, Walmart, McDonald's, Chipotle, Burger King, KFC, and Meijer āmay be at least one of the sources of the current cyclosporiasis outbreak.
Taylor makes bagged greens, salad kits, chopped salads, the works. Keep avoiding supermarket greens, but keep an especially close eye out for this brand/supplier. The above list of grocers and fast food chains is NOT exhaustive, so please continue getting lettuce and other raw produce taken off your burgers, sandwiches, etc.
Another lettuce outbreak, another reminder that lettuce, especially in Mexico, is harvested by people who have no worker's rights and work in vast fields with no ability to safely and privately perform basic human functions.
Civilization rests on clean water and proper waste disposal. No matter the context, if that's not available, outbreaks will happen.
āSo... We got the exploding diarrhea. Here's my advice for anyone who doesn't have it yet:
It's going to take a minute for the government to pin down where this is coming from, and then issue a recall, because the FDA has been gutted. But, I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt : this is coming from Taylor Farms produce, and you will see them recalled.
You'll want to avoid all Taylor Farms produce in the grocery store. They supply McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, about any fast food place you can think of.
Raspberries, watermelons, cilantro, and the veggies you're hearing about are not causing this many people to get sick. It's the shredded lettuce, specifically, that's the problem. But, you'll want to stay away from every type of produce this company puts out, because one strand of shredded lettuce is all it takes to contaminate bushels.
Taylor Farms is the source. Taco Bell proactively pulled their produce from their restaurants. You're going to see other fast food places doing this, and probably will see that before the government names a source. The FDA knows this, but they can't come out and tell us all until there's proof, which takes resources and research, which takes manpower, but the FDA has been cut by about 20-30%
During the Biden term, onions at McDonald's had ecoli. We knew this because DNA testing was done quickly and they were able to narrow it down to one place that caused the outbreak. And, it was traced back to Taylor Farms. This isn't going to be solved as quickly though.
When you get this, make a virtual appointment to your PCP - a "same day sick" appointment. Tell them someone in your family just tested for this and was positive and was prescribed Bactrim. If you go in person, they're probably going to make you poop in a cup and wait until results come back to prescribe.
You'll know when you get this. Trust me on all of this.
You'll want to stay hydrated because this parasite damages the lining of the small intestine. Your small intestine, in turn, secretes more water into the gut, and less nutrients and liquid are able to remain in the body. So no matter how much you shit, you're going to want to drink. A day of this leads to dehydration if you don't increase your fluid intake, and a few days will land you in the hospital.
If you have headaches, weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness, or an increase heart rate - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Go to the ER for fluids if you can't drink enough.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Brought to you by America's 250 birthday celebrations, workforce reduction in the FDA and CDC, and viewers like you.
Please feel free to share this.
And, MAGA - don't blow up the comment section. I argued with y'all on COVID bc I was afraid y'all would die, but I really don't care if you get explosive diarrhea.
And no, ivermectin will not help this at all.ā
As an update, the OP of this post did eventually clarify that they did not have inside knowledge that it was Taylor Farms; that was a conclusion they reached from publicly-available information & history.
However, per CNN and numerous other news outlets, as of Thursday afternoon, the outbreak has been at least partially traced to lettuce supplied to Taco Bell from Taylor Farms, in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
Other states and/or businesses could have received the same contaminated lettuce, or there could be multiple simultaneous outbreaks with different sources: currently, it's not clear.
But anyway, the random guy was right.
sometimes I think about how far we still have to go with consent
my worst relatives try to sneak meat or meat products into my food despite the fact that I'm a vegetarian
my ex's brother gave his mother an edible without her knowledge and when she got freaked out and paranoid they laughed, and people I've told that go "yeah that's shitty but it's just weed"
when I go to the doctor and ask them to describe what they are going to do before touching me they get frustrated
when I ask a friends of a friend who is a small influencer to keep me out of frame in videos they film for social media in public they look at me like I've pissed in their cereal
idk man, we've got a long way to go.
my momās trans allyship is on another level
she once called my friendās deadname āthat stupid thing his mom calls himā
I was once talking to my 75 year old Chinese dad in passing about a trans friend of mine not getting along with her family and he asked why and I said err, because she's trans, dad.
He asked: "Oh, was she the only son or something before *waves hand*?" and I was like, warily, no she has two brothers. And he responded with a great deal of confusion: "Then what's their problem?!?!"
Later on: "Anyway, even if she WAS the only son, that's not her problem, that's THEIR problem. They should have had more sons if they were going to be bothered about it."
Knowing what I know about chinese culture thereās something so beautifully simple about his logic of āno son to carry on family name/look after them in old age/all the other stuff? Skill issue! Shouldāve had more sons! Shouldāve kept the family unit strong yourself! Blaming your daughter for your own failure of family planning is W E A K!ā and then he learns there are more sons and it completely breaks his train of logic because if yes to more sons then why issue?? You have two others and youāre mad you donāt have three?? Whack. Greedy.
I can already envision him as an ancient lord of a powerful house looking down his nose at the latest messenger bringing gossip from the house of his offspringās friend and going ānow they have a daughter to marry into another family for powerful alliances and two sons to take over her former duties and somehow theyāre still complaining about their good fortune? They shall not survive the winter.ā and then sipping his tea with all the grim satisfaction of someone about to watch an unnecessary soap opera of drama unfold from a safe distance or something
That's a funny image for sure, though I think if there's a typology of Chinese philosophical mentality, there would likely be a spectrum from "Confucian patriarchal lord" to "Buddhist monk / Taoist hermit" and my dad renounced at 18, was a monk for a time, before coming back to work for his family since they were poor 𤷠it was what 3 years after we gained independence from the British so the economy was probs a mess.
When he found and married my mom, he was nearly 45 and they had so much trouble conceiving that he went to a Guanyin temple supposedly "magical" for praying for children. When I was born (not a son, also an only child until now), my mom said, "when you prayed at the temple did you ask for a son?" He said, "Aiya, everyone is asking for sons, so I said any gender is okay. If I asked for a son, maybe we wouldn't have gotten a child because Guanyin's son quota is already used up. Do you want that to happen?" My mom laughed for days about "son quota" and continues to tell people about it today, but her honest answer was: "Any child is okay."
Jokes on them. They didn't specify a gender, so Guanyin Ma gave them a non-binary child!
More seriously: my dad doesn't care about sons. When I told my parents that I wouldn't marry or have children, I thought he might be disappointed, but he wasn't. Then again, maybe I should have expected that, given he tried to become a monk at 18 𤪠I think he said the thing about sons to poke fun at people who care too much about sons because he frankly thinks it's all a bit ridiculous. In his eyes, a child is a child, so what's the point in caring about gender? If the child "changes" gender, does it make a difference?
When I first spoke to my mom about trans issues, still closeted at the time, she said, "I don't understand why they feel the way they do, but they aren't hurting anyone so don't bother them. They are normal people just minding their own business." I said, "I agree, but on the topic of not understanding: Mom, do you think that when we reincarnate, we are always born into a body of the same gender?" In Buddhist stories, there was a lifetime in which Guanyin was reincarnated as a cow or ox, and in repayment for my birth, my dad does not eat beef till this day. Gender or species isn't constant in the cycle of rebirth. My mom said, "No, you're right. Whatever thing that carries on has no gender. I was probably male, human or animal, in one of my past lives." And she has supported trans rights even more ever since.

I don't read as much fic as I used to but one "tell" for non Canadians writing us, besides the etransfer, is the units you use to describe us measuring something. I hate to tell you this but The Chart is real and it's completely subconscious. Please abide
ETA the chart (or at least a version of it):
ETA2: we do use inches/miles in poetic ways ("he was lost in thought/miles away" or "his lips were a bare inch away").
Also, the length of a dick is in inches for SURE.
āPeople should pass a test before being allowed to have kids.ā āIsnāt it scary how white people have this inborn capacity for evil?ā āIāll never pass because males and females have different skull shapes.ā āAutistic people have a stronger sense of justice than anyone else.ā āI donāt want AMABs in my space because theyāre dangerous.ā āYou shouldnāt have access to hormones if you dress like THAT.ā āAnyone who does something that awful isnāt human.ā āSome people really shouldnāt be allowed to vote.ā
This is eugenics. This is phrenology. THIS IS NAZI SHIT, YOU ARE A LEFTIST BUYING INTO NAZI SHIT. YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO NAZI SHIT.
I didn't want to believe these are real pictures š
Link to the article linked in the twit.
Damn I'm so sad, this is dire.
Day 286 of quarantine I have discoveredĀ www.webstaurantstore.com
It is, I BELIEVE, a website intended to be used by restaurants for bulk ordering food and utensils. And this is bringing me such unbounded delight scrolling through and recognizing that I, a single individual, ALSO can order ridiculous obscene enormous offensive-to-all-common-sensibilities shipments of BULK FOOD, to my LITTLE LITTLE APARTMENT, for PENNIES on the dollar. I have this god given power to flood my entire living space with bulk grains and it is one single button click away from my reality.
30 POUNDS of chocolate for $100. 20 POUNDS of peas for $13?? $13!!!! I will wake up every single morning from now on knowing that a box of donuts and a sack of dried split peas heavy enough to bodily injure someone both carry equal monetary weight.Ā 25 POUNDS OF ONION POWDER for $50. Do you understand the enormity? the accessibility? the potential here? With the single click of the button I can put myself in a position of bequeathing more than a humanly comprehensible amount of onion powder in my will. AND IT WOULD ONLY COST ME $50 TO MAKE THIS A REALITY.
But what gets me
What truly gets me
is the 50 POUND BAG OF RICEĀ
FOR LESS THAN $20
Do you know how much that kills me? How much Iām losing my mind? that I can order MYSELF WORTH OF RICE for something to the tune of $50? IĀ can OUT-RANK MYSELF WITH RICE, DEMOCRATICALLY OVERRULE MYSELF WITH RICE, IN MY OWN APARTMENT for the fucking PENNIES that is $50
Iām so sorry for the normal person Iāll be after quarantine because the cabin-fever version of me Iām inhabiting right now is perhaps just uninhibited enough to follow through on this dream Iāve just discovered of out-ricing myself.
real talk though, if you had a large number of people in your community who wanted a particular food item and couldnāt afford it (for instance if youāre in a food desert and need produce or if youāre a part of a large disabled and/or overworked community who all need prepared frozen food), you could pool funds and get an order from a supply store like this.
it requires organizing for finance management, ordering, transport, and distribution, but if you build a stable mutual aid network, itās genuinely within the realm of possibility.
This idea is called a buyers club (or buying club, buying coop, etc) and itās a great time-tested method of mutual aid. And there are guides and tools for starting your own at managemy.coop

i have a lot of feelings and thoughts about coelacanths today
like⦠theyāre blue
you have this mysterious fish that Ā no one really cared about, because everyone assumed theyād gone extinct with the dinosaurs. an interesting footnote, but one of many, many fossil species.Ā
and later the coelacanth gets some fame as a so-calledĀ āmissing linkā species, a theory which is now outdated (and not accurate for coelacanths) but was really influential at the time. because they have some weird biological quirks ā bones in fins! ā people were likeĀ āoh, they must be a missing link.ā so the coelacanth was launched into some fame with the theory of evolution. it got brought up a lot. drawn in old textbooks as proof.
and then a fisherman finds a weird fish off the coast of south africa and calls a local fish expert who had let it be known she was interested in weird finds, and he brings her the (unfortunately badly rotted) corpse and sheās likeĀ āwell, this is sure weird,ā and sends off the bones to other experts, who start to quietly freak out, and rush to south africa, and rewards are offered for another one, any other one, and a few years later one is caught and frozen before rotting.
and itās this incredible discovery, this extinct creature come to life (the prehistoric coelacanth lived in swamps and marshes in south america; these now are deep ocean fish in and around the indian ocean, but itās still recognizably the same species)!
but itās also blue.
not like, muddy blue, or tumblr-default-background blue.
proper shimmering sapphire blue and white. almost turquoise in some lights. this like⦠muddy, fossil creature. always drawn in dinosaur browns and grays. and itās alive and itās blue. just imagine being the scientist who opened that crate to this creature for the first time. youāre already excited, youāve known about this fish for decades, you thought it was a story, you know itās in this box. you expect Ā to see the weird fins and the strange tail. you know itās large and odd looking. and you open it up and itās this beautiful, shining blue, you know?
[img described: a coelacanth. it is blue.]
