Egg was still looking sullen when Daeron fell back beside him. “Why did you do that?” he asked. Daeron shrugged, and took another drink. “I thought you wanted to squire.” “I do! Bu-” “And?” Daeron interrupted, making Egg’s scowl a mighty thing. “But why can’t I squire for you?” he asked. Daeron scoffed. “Because I am a terrible knight and you know it,” he said. “You will never get another chance like this to squire for a real knight. Don’t waste it sulking.” Egg seemed to think that over, and looked back ahead to the giant they followed. “Are you sure he’s a real knight?” Egg asked, sounding skeptical. “Egg,” Daeron said, fully true, “I am fairly certain that is the greatest knight in the Seven Kingdoms.” “Seems dubious,” Egg said, considering the man with more than a little doubt. “But I suppose he can’t be any worse than you.” Daeron sighed at such high praise indeed.
