Creating Tumblr themes: Websites or tools you might not have heard of
There are several posts and pages on how to create Tumblr themes. I figured I'd add some links and tools that I haven't really seen on this hellsite. Enjoy!
Chrome Devtools ā This is an obvious one to point out to some, but I don't wanna leave it out. Right click and inspect on a website! "live edit" your CSS and HTML and watch it take action immediately. Just remember to copy the html/CSS into your theme before refreshing ;) I've used similar tools on Firefox since 2010, never looked back. devtools is powerful as fuck, but you don't need to know everything before diving into it.
Prettier.io ā "An opinionated code formatter." Use the online playground to check your scripts or neatly fix and arrange your CSS. Or just HTML. It can also be installed in VS Code easily, which I highly recommend.
Coolors.co ā colour patterns, gradients, create colour schemes from images, check for accessibility, and so much more.
Lucide Icons ā the popular Feather icons just got an upgrade, so many Icons! Go here to see how to integrate it in your themes.
Neumorphism.io ā What it says on the tin.
uiverse.io ā Universe of UI elements to help you stand out. Great source of inspiration as well.
Fancy Border Radius Generator ā Because why settle with squares?
Blob generator ā if fancy Border radius isn't enough. Generator of much more than blobs, by the way! Check it out.
Open Props: Sub-atomic styles ā Supercharged CSS variables.
Modern CSS Reset ā better than Eric Meyer's.
Subtle patterns ā been using this for over a decade.
CodeMyUI ā repository for CSS snippets.
Codepad ā a place for developers to share code snippets: PHP, Java, Bash, C, C++, Python and more.
Mesh Gradient Collection ā because it's pretty.
WAVE ā Check how your website/theme holds up accessibility-wise. Spoiler alert: get into aria-labels.
Feel free to message me more, and I'll add it to the post.

TIL To create an accurate depiction of a black hole in the movie Interstellar, Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, wrote pages of theoretical equations to help the VFX team. The resulting visual effects provided Thorne with new insights, resulting in the publication of three scientific papers.

because this and also because Jurassic Parkārelated advances in paleontology, et cetera, anyone who devalues the arts in favor of the sciences demonstrably has the wrong end of the stick
Science and Arts are not opposites, they are not rivals, they are the neglected siblings of the egotistical and over-indulged Sports and his best friend Money.
We, as scientist and artists, must unite. Science is an art, and art is a science. We hold hands and we make the world a much better place!
Hey, I'm sorry if this is disturbing you, but I was wondering how you deal with procrastination? I dont mind studying once I get down to it, but I get distracted so easily and barely get anything done :(
these are the things i found help the most:
have a dedicated place for studying. personally, i feel like i get distracted more easily when iām just in my room, so i started going to the library more often
study in public spaces. continuing with the whole library thing, youāre much less likely to procrastinate if you know other people see you doing jack shit. similar things would be filming yourself/streaming when studying
get an accountability partner. ever since my housemate got back and we started going to the library together, weāve really pushed each other to make the most of our day and weāve become more productive
have a to do list. plan your tasks the day before/in the morning and focus on getting the most important task done (some people do more, but start with one if you find this particularly difficult)
also, iām aware no one wants to hear this, but having a balanced lifestyle is very important! too little exercise or a poor diet for example influence our ability to focus and can result in procrastination, so please make sure youāre taking care of yourself

āBe weird. Be random. Be who you are. Because you never know who would love the person you hide.ā

Hey dunno if anyone who follows me has heard but UC Santa Barbara is planning to build a 4500 student dorm where 94% of the rooms wonāt have windows and there are only two exits because a 97 year old billionaire thinks college students arenāt human beings
If you see this PLEASE sign this petition to get them to see how many people are against this idea. The building is a biohazard, a fire hazard, and basically a hell for anyone who lives in it but ESPECIALLY for disabled students and students with pre-existing mental health problems. I know signing a petition is just a drop of water in an ocean but even showing how many people hate this idea is better than nothing.
UCSB Should Reject The Proposed 'Munger Residence Hall'
Hey reblog this version please!
Even if u donāt live in the area op is referring to, y'all should reblog this. These students deserve way better
Chaotic academia is
1.) Intense obsessions that last maybe two weeks but consume your soul
2.) Spacing out in class but loving to learn
3.) Swearing and slang while discussing deep academic topics
I have been diagnosed with ADHD
Suggest some websites for uni mathematics that you use or came across? Or any other resources?
most of the time my maths questions are quite specific and after some googling, iām usually able to come across pdfās that help me with whatever iām struggling with.
nonetheless, having resources to come back to is extremely useful, especially if you just donāt know wtf is going on in lectures. so hereās some stuff i find very helpful:
Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences by Mary L. Boas ā i swear the whole physics department simps over this book. it gets mentioned in literally every office hour/drop in session. we all just love Boas
Mathematical Methods for Physics and Engineering by Riley, Hobson and Bence ā just ordered a physical copy because this is THE MATHS BOOK for physics students. it contains everything youāll ever need and more (PhD students still use it!) and i literally use it every day. itās less rigorous than Boas and you can definitely tell it was written by physicists, but thatās what makes it so useful for me because they knew EXACTLY what I need
Dr. Trefor Bazett on YouTube ā idk why, but his explanations just. make. sense. and heās even put full courses on his channel! what a legend
blackpenredpen on YouTube ā personally, i havenāt really watched a lot of their stuff, but my housemates absolutely swear by it
this is definitely only a fraction of all of the resources out there and there is definitely a strong bias towards physics, so please feel free to add more!

I want you all to know that an Arab Muslim from Tunis proposed the Theory of Evolution near 600 years before Charles Darwin even took his first breath. Donāt let them erase you.
his name is Ibn Khaldun
Also, it was not the apple falling from a tree that made Issac Newton ādiscoverā gravity. He was reading the books of Ibn Al Haytham, an Arab Muslim from Iraq, who pioneered the scientific method, discovered gravity and wrote about the laws governing the movement of bodies (now known as Newtons three laws of motion) some 600 years before Newton existed. Without him, modern science as we know it wouldnāt exist. Read on him. His achievements are far greater than what Iāve just mentioned here.
#no offense but arabs literally invented chemistry and algebra and we came up with the concept of the camera #the cataract operation thatās still practiced today was invented by an Arab #we created alchemy and the wright brothers used abbas ibn firnasā findings and writings to build on to create a plane #I could go on and on and on #pls donāt erase our scientific history
I reblog this post every time I see it
We fucking replaced a Muslim scientist with an apple?
In the middle ages, THE place to go for an education was the middle East, or, failing that, Spain. The Muslim world didnāt have the same limits placed on scientific inquiry that the Christian world did, and since they were willing to look at more than just Aristotole and actually compare texts to the observable world, they had some incredible scientific and mathematical advancements. And street lights and toilets. I mean theories and algebra are great and all, but street lights and toilets. In the 12th century. Also medical advancements, and fewer rules against women studying. Hell, women *should* be the ones studying the female body, would you rather a woman see your female relatives, or some old man? Would you rather have someone who lives in the same kind of body, or one who has no first hand idea what the parts can do?
Europeans erased centuries of knowledge from the East because of fear. When we ārediscoveredā it, we were still too egotistical to admit that non-whites could have been smarter, so we invented our own mythology.
Bring credit back where itās due. Honor the true pioneers.
Also the worldās oldest continuous existing university was established by a woman, Fatima al-Fihri, in 859 AD (244/5 AH) in Fez, Morocco.
There is also a man called JĆ¢bir Ibn HĆ¢yan (or also called Geber)Ā who has written books and taught on material transformation processes (distillation, combustion, fixation etc ā¦) which later led to what Westerners more commonly called alchemy (from the Greek word ākimiyaā and the Arabic prefix āalā, it can also be found in āalgebraā or āalgorithmā)
Whenever I feel tired and donāt want to read academic texts or do research anymore I just remind myself that because Iām a POC and a woman I would have been burned at the stake three centuries ago for being literate and suddenly I want nothing but to spite white religious dead men with my knowledge.Ā
Wait I love this energy
Just submitted my first (of hopefully many) NASA Pathways Program applications! They job postings donāt tend to stay up long, and I donāt feel like I currently have much of a shot, but hey, no chance if you donāt try! š¤·š
Iāve had a few people ask what the Pathways Program is, so Iāll try to explain it! Thereās three main versions of Pathways:
Ā· Ā Ā Ā NASA Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP)
Ā· Ā Ā Ā NASA Pathways Recent Graduates Program (RGP)
Ā· Ā Ā Ā NASA Pathways Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program
The one Iām applying to is the IEP. IEP is open to any student in a qualifying four-year program. Itās a little more flexible than a ānormalā NASA Internship, where you can work in sections of weeks that work for you around and/or during your college schedule. A cool part of IEP is that, once you complete it, thereās a high chance you could be converted to full-time employment (permanent or contractual)! There are two tracks for IEP, single-center and multi-center. Basically the difference is do you want to work at one center only, and have a chance to work on more focused projects? Or do you want to see what other centers do/offer?
The RGP is geared more towards career development, again with a change to be converted to a full-time employee.Ā
PMF is for those whoāve received a masters, doctorate, or professional degree within the past two years, again with the employment chance like those above. These opportunities are only announced once per year.
You can find more information on the Pathways Program here!
Itās also important to note that the majority of NASA centers post their Pathways Program job openings on USAJOBS.gov, and one or two centers post them within the NASA Internships application. (Search forĀ āStudent Traineeā and youāll see all sorts of open governmental student jobs even besides NASA!)
!!!!!ALSO!!!!!
NASA DOESNāT ONLY HIRE STEM MAJORS!
Majority of Pathways opportunities are, but not all! And thereās even more opportunities with anĀ āOSTEMā NASA Internship! Iāve seen openings for those who do communications, law, social media, graphic design, finance, accounting, business, biology, agriculture, meteorology, human resources, physical therapy, almost literally everything! Please, look into them!
With COVID-19 currently happening, at the moment thereās only about ~6 internships posted in the NASA Internships website, but donāt worry!!! Normally there were at least like 20 pages with 25 internships per page. Tons of openings! Just keep your eyes out and check in to the websites often.
Noooo bro⦠the soundtrack is playing your recurring musical motif but this time in a minor key to indicate youāve turned evil :( aha
āEven if you are not with me, the memories of you are with me. My heart sees you, even if you are made vanished from my vision. The eye sees who it loves but will end up losing the sight of them. But the one who sees with their heart, will never lose the sight (of the people they love).ā

Scientists invented fabric that makes electricity from motion and sunlight. To create the fabric, researchers at Georgia Tech wove together solar cell fibers with materials that generate power from movement. It could be used in ātents, curtains, or wearable garments,ā meaning weād virtually never be without power. Source
Y'all are fucking idiots. Clean energy will NEVER be enough to replace the energy we have now. Weād have to tear down DOZENS of forests just to fit enough windmills and solar panels to get even a QUARTER (probably less, tbh) of the energy we can produce now.
Yeah, sure, when theyāve already calculated that a few square miles of panels in the empty ass Arizona desert could power the whole nation. But ok, fracking and the diminishing petroleum supply is worlds better.
Nevermind that windmills are often most efficient off the coast. There they take up no land, impact no trees, donāt pollute the water, and are conveniently located where winds are often strongest anyway.
And solar panels can literally be built into roofs of buildings and in empty areas like deserts. The sun strikes the Earth with the same amount of energy in an hour that our civilization uses in a year.
But yeah, it would be impossible for us to ever have enough energy from clean sources.
Durr hurr technology is bad and I would rather light shit on fire than have clean energy
I can also testify to the Arizona desert being empty ass. And the California desert. And the Nevada desert.Ā
alsoā¦no forests were cleared to make space for Denmarkās windmills and yet they regularly produce so much power that it covers almost all of the countryās power needs. Oh, and then thereās the times when the windmills generate 140% of Denmarkās power needs. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/10/denmark-wind-windfarm-power-exceed-electricity-demand
Friendly reminder that oil pipelines are a scam.
The fact that anyone can believe a limited amount of dinosaur oil is more plentiful and efficient than moving air or fucking sunlight is proof that entire populations can be completely brainwashed.
And donāt forget wave and geothermal power.
The best place to install solar? Parking lots! Hereās the Community Mercantile in LFK:
Not only can it supply almost all the power needed for stores that build these, it also reduces ambient heating from the roasting pavement and keeps cars covered from the elements.
Everyone wins!
The ways we can produce sustainable, renewable energy grow by the year. There is zero reason to keep maintaining oil and natural gas industries!
The only reason we still use fossil fuels is that rich people are selfish.
how does he produce full movies in three mins?? give him his oscar already
WOW someone give this man a small loan of 1 million dollars to make a movie that will kill us all
YES!
