âŚokay so what if the problem with the taomeba never happened on the way back home. What if the radiation never got onto the Blip-A. What if Rocky ended up back on Erid, and Grace made it back to Earth. What if they missed each other desperately forever.
What if Grace made a lopsided crochet Rocky and cuddled it every night.
What if Rocky couldnât stop making xenonite puppets of his alien friend.
What if I made myself cry, what about that? Huh? What then?
Grace, your friend is an apex predator.

Two eridians and their wet dog
one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"
the fact that this reference was that fucking precise was something they went on to tell people about for years.
According to Andy Weir's Eridian biology document, Eridians are better multitaskers than humans will ever be, but the trade off is they're physically incapable of locking in. SO funny to me. Yes this species can build a diorama while simultaneously blitzing through mathematics equations and also partaking in intense gossiping, but they cannot do any of those things for longer than, like, half an hour without going crazy. Species of supercomputers cursed with the TikTok attention span.
Rocky mocks Grace when he says that Rocky is distracting him by starting complex conversations while he's Trying To Do Science. "Human brain have to stop activity just because talking question? Useless! One track mind!"
Then Grace is on hour six of his "trying to recreate skittles" hyperfocus and Rocky is like What The Fuck. Statement.
Yeah human brains can only do a single very consuming task at a time but it can do it for a very long time. The one track in our one track minds spans multiple countries. Persistence predators, babey.
furthest we've ever been

A Star Wars droidfic prompt starring C-3PO and R2-D2, a 50 First Dates AU, aka a memory loss trope. As we all know, Artoo has never had his memory wiped, but Threepio has at least twice, and Clone Wars canon has mentioned multiple times that most droid owners wipe their droids frequently. So I want to see Artoo and Threepioâs relationship (counterpart-ship?) after multiple wipes of Threepio, and how the rebuild it each time. They could be romantic partners, a QPR (optimal), or friends, but whatever it is, theyâre each othersâ counterparts.
Prompt free for the taking, just please send me a link to whatever you write â or if one already exists, gimmie! *makes grabby hands*
In a recent poll, American think that:
21% of the US is transgender (the actual number is between 0.5% and 1.6%)
30% are gay or lesbian (3%) and an additional 30% are bisexual (4%), meaning the average American thinks that only around 19% of them are cisgender heterosexuals. The actual number of cisgender heterosexuals is around 90% of the population.
30% Muslim (1%) and 30% Jewish (2%), however contradictory to this they also think 58% are Christian, equaling 118% of Americans are of the abrahamic religions to the average American or some people are both Jewish or Muslim and Christian.
33% atheist (3%), meaning the abrahamic religions+ atheism is 141% of the US population.
41% black (12%), 27% (1%) native American, 29% asian (6%), and 39% Hispanic (17%), but also 59% white (64% actual)
30% live in NYC (3%), 30% live in Texas (9%), and 32% live in California (12%), meaning only 8% live in the rest of the country (actual 76%).
And lastly the average American believe only 62% of us have a high school education, actual number is 89%.
People vastly overestimate the general knowledge of the average American, let alone political knowledge and critical thinking skills. We live in the consequences of the children left behind.
See, thatâs cause Australia was founded by convicts, and the USA by extremist religious zealots (aka the Puritans).
Itâs sad how much of what is taught in school is useless to over 99% of the population.
There are literally math concepts taught in high school and middle school that are only used in extremely specialized fields or that are even so outdated they arenât used anymore!
I took calculus my senior year of high school, and I really liked the way our teacher framed this on the first day of class.
He asked somebody to raise their hand and ask him when we would use calculus in our everyday life. So one student rose their hand and asked, âWhen are we going to use this in our everyday life?â
âNEVER!!â the teacher exclaimed. âYou will never use calculus in your normal, everyday life. In fact, very few of you will use it in your professional careers either.â Then he paused. âSo would you like to know why should care?â
Several us nodded.
He picked out one of the varsity football players in the class. âYou practice football a lot during the week, right Tim?â asked the teacher.
âYeah,â replied Tim. âAlmost every day.â
âDo you and your teammates ever lift weights during practice?â
âYeah. Tuesdays and Thursdays we spend a lot of practice in the weight room.â
âBut why?â asked the teacher. âIs there ever going to be a play your coach tells you use during a game that requires you to bench press the other team?â
âNo, of course not.â
âThen why lift weights?â
âBecause it makes us stronger,â said Tim.
âBingo!!â said the teacher. âItâs the same thing with calculus. Youâre not here because youâre going to use calculus in your everyday life. Youâre here because calculus is weightlifting for your brain.â
And Iâve never forgotten that.
THIS.
When itâs taught right, learning math teaches you logic and how to organize your brain, how to take a problem one step at a time and make sure every step can bear weight before you move to the next one. Â Most adults donât need to know integrals, but goddamn if I donât wish everyone making arguments on the internet understood geometric proofs.
Scientific concepts broaden our understanding of how the world is put together, which does not mean that most adults ever really understand how light is refracted through a lens or why spinning copper wire creates electricityâand they donât need to. Â But science classes in general are meant to teach the scientific method: how to make observations and use them to draw conclusions, how to test those conclusions, how to be wrong and grow stronger from it.
History isnât about dates and names of battles, itâs about people, patterns, things weâve tried before and ought to learn from. Â Itâs about how everything is linked, how changing one circumstance can lead to changes in fifty others, cascading infinitely. Â Literature is about critical thinking, pattern recognition, learning to listen to what somebody is saying and decide what it means to you, how you feel about it, and what you want to do with it.
Some facts matter: every adult should know how to read a graph, how global warming works, some of the basic themes and symbols that crop up in every piece of fiction. Â But ultimately, content is less important later in life than context.
The good thing is, students who learn the content are likely to pick up at least some of the context, some of the patterns of thinking, even if they donât realize it.  (The unfortunate thing is how the current educational system prioritizes content so much that a lot of students, and a lot of adults, donât see the point in learning either, and teachers are overworked and held to standardize test grading scales such that itâs hard for them to emphasize patterns of thinking over rote memorization, etc etc etc, but that is a whole different discussion.)
I would also add that giving as broad an education to as many as possible gives everyone the opportunity to follow a career that might use calculus. Or colour theory. Or electromagnetism. Or [insert specialism here]. If we gatekeep specialisms, those careers are only available for the ones who were privileged enough to have the background training. Thatâs why Classics as a degree subject is full of private school kids: itâs not offered in state education.
Iâm an astrophysicist. I want my engineering students to know the ethics of making a new nuclear bomb, just as much as I want my philosophy students to know the benefits and drawbacks of nuclear energy. Being well-rounded helps everyone and society too.
I watch a lot of Guillermo del Torro movies and shows, and (at least in the best of them) his approach is that he makes movies about monsters, but actually the monsters are the humans. And Iâm also working on the third season of The Witcher, in which Geralt kills more monsters, and sometimes those monsters are humans.
I really want some sort of crossover now.
(Some spoilers for both below.)

JediTok
Obi-Wan: Hi, Iâm Obi-Wan Kenobi and welcome back to âthings you can say to piss off Sithâ and youâre not allowed to argue with me because Iâm the only Jedi whoâs killed a Sith acolyte in like a hundred years or some shit idk, Grandmaster was really weird when I tried to talk to him about it. Anyways weâre starting off hot today, âyou seem to be experiencing a lot of emotions right nowâ. If this isnât true when you say it, it will be true by the time youâre done speaking.
I need yâall to know this one for sure breeched containment from the Jedi Order and everyone is SHOOK when the top duet to it is Maul, sitting on a pile of trash and pointing at his robotic limbs and ranting about how Obi didnât kill him what now bitch and a million other angry things at him.
His response is a duet saying he thinks Maul might be experiencing a lot of emotions right now.
Maul gets so mad he shows up at the temple and theyâre able to find out about Sidious from him only for Obi-Wan to snap because HIS BABY PADAWAN IS WITH THAT MAN RIGHT THIS SECOND-
Anyways. The footage from Palpatineâs office gets leaked and it very much shows Obi defending his baby Ani from a bad evil sith and then Obi duets THAT and angrily says he is the first Jedi to kill a Sith in a long fucking time and he made SURE this one was dead af thanks.
Maul duets it and says that he seems to be experiencing a lot of emotions right now.
@arianeemorythethird left these tags on my old man Rex post and I was inspired
Cody is there bc I wanted to draw Cody
Hah, I love Cody's sneer XD
Also, as someone with blond hair and dark brown eyebrows, I have to wonder, like... do most people not realize it's possible to have that combination of features? And that it's actually pretty common among blonds?
Anyway, I refuse to believe that Rex isn't a natural blond because with his hair so short, dark roots would show in like 2 days. No way is he able to keep hair bleaching products with him at all times in the middle of a goddamn war.
It's the stupidest hill to die on, but I'm fed up with the serious societal issue of blonds-with-dark-eyebrows erasure đ¤Łđ¤ŁđŞđŞđĽđ¤
A college friend of mine was a blond with dark brown eyebrows and a red beard.
