Why are people having so much issue with the article, I agreed with it? The title isn’t the most eloquent thing ever but the article wasn’t encouraging cheating, where you go behind your partners back, but instead looking at the issue of cheating as a not black-and-white thing where there’s one horribly evil person who just wanted to have fun/get laid with one traumatized-for-life victim. Instead, like most- nah, let me say with ANYTHING in real life beyond fiction, the article sees the grays in cheating and why the person cheated in the first place. Not to say that cheating isn’t a horrible thing to do, but I feel like people need to understand that there are reasons people do the things they do. People who cheat are human beings. They could feel horrible about it, they could be trapped in a marriage or relationship that they don’t feel they can escape, they can feel insecure and unloved. Again, not to say it’s something you should ever do, but dehumanizing someone over a mistake is just as bad in my opinion. There’s nowhere where they can talk about their experiences, and it’s likely we know a lot of people who have cheated in our lives even if they haven’t (or were too scared) to tell us about it.
“dehumanizing someone over a mistake”
Okay you know what, no, I'm pissed. This is why I hate politics. It's never just a difference in worldview, it has to be a moral failing if you don't see things 100% the same as the people who have designated themselves the arbiters of goodness. Sick of being called a bigot for saying issues are more complicated than they're being made out to be. You don't even know my views yet!
What helps one group can and usually does harm another. You have to mitigate the group that abuses the aid being offered. You have to mitigate the group that keeps the problems going on in perpetuity so they can exploit the needy to line their own pockets. People aren't not flipping the "solve all problems" switch because they're evil. They're not doing it because it doesn't exist! The world is not that simple! It's messy, it's complicated, and difficult decisions have to be made all the time. It would be beautiful if we could live in a problem free utopia, but we have to live in reality!
>People aren't not flipping the "solve all problems" switch because they're evil. They're not doing it because it doesn't exist!
Ain't that the truth, that and acting like they're the first ones ever to care about a issue that people have been working on for decades or longer.
Saying all art is political because you can find a way to argue your political opinions through it is the same as saying all art is fetish because someone out there has a kink for whatever the art is depicting. You see the problem.

Nothing enrages me more than 18-27 year old "revolutionaries" who believe that are the counter culture, immune to propaganda who somehow all bought their mamdani jerseys and have been treating him like some kind of idol for the last year.
Like, mandani filming himself walking to work and shaking people's hands is a form of propaganda... and youd know this if you replaced him with any other politician.
The fandomisation of mamdani is fucken weird.
I hadn't really thought about it before (though it should have been obvious 🙄) that for sub/counter cultures, and all the creativity that the best ones can bring with them, to exist. Then there has to be a thriving majority culture for them to be 'counter' to.
Julia James Davis in her 'War on Beauty' YouTube channel (Instagram as well) has a great video looking at the subject.
These so called 'revolutionaries' far from being a 'counter culture' want to make themselves the dominant culture.
Now I'm sure that there were plenty of plenty of the punks, goths, skinheads etc that surrounded my teens and twenties in the 80s and 90s that dreamed of 'revolution' as well.
But they were going counter to a culture that for the most part still valued and protected itself.
We didn't have to think that everything was perfect, in order to know where and how we were well off.
I'll give 80s and 90s sub/counter cultures credit for doing something valuable. They were very good at puncturing holes in the parts of society still given to stodgy pomposity.
And yes, there was still serious racism and homophobia that needed fighting. There was plenty of comedy around that encouraged us to laugh at people with such ridiculous bigotry.
But the counter culture stand against it served its purpose too.
Now those who see themselves as 'cool and counter cultural' are the very ones that The Powers That Be want to hold up as the ideal.
The media promotes them, academia spreads their ideas. They're actually close to being *clutch pearls* 'Mainstream '.
