Watching The Dark Knight it's hard not to feel like its core message of peoples' inherent goodness kinda conflicts with literally everything anyone who isn't Batman does in that flick. Like the scene with the boats is the only time anyone shows anything resembling compassion and even then it feels more like the rich guy just chickened out.

The older I get the less I consider The Dark Knight to be a mature interpretation of an iconic character as I do a charmless, self-serious exercise in post-9/11 pessimism with a hastily stapled on message of "People are capable of good. Sometimes. If you force them to be." starring a guy who dresses kinda like Batman if you squint really hard.
