First issue to draw out is because he’s most likely “not up to par” with what you’ve imagined or hc-ed him to be. And I think that’s still okay, not everyone’s expectations can be met. But to go as far as trashing the actor because he doesn’t look like your Nikolai? Mmmm, I think we need to go sit back on that and think. Shouldn’t you give the actor a chance to prove himself? I don’t have much ideas about casting ways, but if the director approves him, and also Leigh? I think that should give you a heads-up that maybe he could pull it off well. 

And let’s remember, if you read the books really well, Nikolai’s charm is all because of his quite-aloof, annoying, and talkative personality, and also his very bad jokes, that’s why I think many people like him—including me, yes, I kin him—and not just because of his looks alone. I don’t get why people suddenly became too obsessed on how he actually looked like than caring if the actor can whether do the things that made Nikolai likeable in the first place or not. 

Did we all just like Nikolai because of his looks alone and not his annoying-ness? I don’t think so. I’ve seen comments that said “he’s lesser handsome” than how Nikolai looked in their hc-ed. Why suddenly go with how he looks like instead of how he acts? Make it make sense. 

And secondly, the whole concern.jpg for Patrick’s tweets dated 2011, which is still horrifying to read, as much at it repulses me to see it, I think the petition y’all are starting should demand for apology, and not demand recasting. I mean, isn’t that all we want? For people to own up to their actions? Then start by asking for apology. Also, we don’t know the guy, or what he has been through, or what he had become in the span of more than a decade or so. I know I am treading a dangerous line here, but I don’t know him at all, and I do not exactly have the right supporting arguments and evidence to blatantly deny him of the role or the chance. He had been announced as a cast for two days and now almost everyone who had a say against the casting wants to remove him from the casting. 

But I do want him to address it, as it doesn’t indeed look good on his reputation. There’s no excuse to it. The only time it’s time to go through the drastic measures is when we don’t see any changes. I think that would be fair. 

Demand for apology. Ask and hope for changes in their character and behavior.
