There was so much going on at the same time, I’m pretty sure Lucien wasn’t even the center of everyone’s attention. Y’all act like he picked up a mic and yelled into it.

Lucien is not Elain’s trauma.

The King of Hybern is. The cauldron is. Being kidnapped (twice) is. Being tied up/chained is. Being drowned is. Seeing her fathers dead body is. Burying her father is. Being turned into the thing she hated the most is. Losing her fiancé is. Losing her mortality is.

Things that probably stress Elain out more than Lucien’s occasional visits: constantly needing to insist she is a part of a court where no one views her as an equal, being fought over by her sisters, being coddled, people speaking for her and going against her direct wishes(looking at you Azriel).

Elains trauma does not start or end with Lucien Vanserra. Do I think she’s resistant to the bond because of her trauma? Yes. Do I think it’s personal to Lucien? No.

Her trauma isn’t only valid when Lucien is around and people like to scream that he’s the reason (which is wrong what they are insinuating). Her trauma is constantly valid. The same trauma the Inner Circle (and most of this fandom) forgets exist any other time.

ELAIN IS NOT DOING WELL AT ALL. mark my words.

If you think her arc will only consist of rejecting the bond, gaining Rhys’s approval to be with Azriel, and falling in love with the person who speaks against her wishes, you are sadly mistaken. Stop being a hypocrite.

I wanted to commission a piece showing Elain and Lucien being separated by circumstances, but still tied together by fate. With Lucien stationed at the Spring Court and Elain still staying at the Night Court, I wanted to leave little Easter eggs for both courts.

@jacqueillustrates absolutely killed it. She created these house insignia’s for each court’s bedsheets. The Night Court got the mountain with the stars, and the Spring Court got the roses and thorns. Then in the middle where they meet is tied together with the mate bond.

Thank you so much @jacqueillustrates for creating this extraordinary art! Of course it turned out even more beautiful than I imagined! I’m completely mesmerized by it 💗💗

If Elain does end up with Lucien it’s because Elain CHOSE him. It will be because she got to know him and fell in love with him. Just like Feysand. Just like Nessian. Just like all of Sarah’s other mated pairs.

All these FMC’s ended up falling in love with their mates. I hope the same for Elain.

Elain was social and loved parties. She was gearing up for a life as human Lord's wife, and all the politics and social graces that life would afford her. She could influence people and make friends easily. She was kind and warm and open.

She is not that way right now. Who she has become has been filtered through the lens of her intense trauma that she has yet to begin to unpack and finding her mate during that time.

SO ON THE FLIPSIDE

Everyone in the fandom can agree, whole-heartedly, we miss our sassy, mouthy fox boy. Who loved to mingle with other courts, travel, make connections, etc. But we all also agree HE IS NOT THAT WAY RIGHT NOW. Who he has become has been filtered through the lens of his intense trauma and finding his mate while the only security he'd known for decades was crumbling under his feet.

Of course they are avoiding each other - they are also avoiding THEMSELVES. How are they supposed to get to know another person when they don't even recognize themselves right now?

And more than that... this isn't just the concept that "well, Az sees her at her lowest and want her" as much as "Az wants someone who ISN'T in her true form right now." AND THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE.

Characters do not begin their REAL arc already healed and ready. They start at their lowest point and grow from there. That's why SJM saying that Elain and Lucien have a lot of healing to do TOGETHER is SO important.
