The question is not whether Elain or Lucien loves nature more, but HOW they love nature. And they fit very cleanly into the categories of Outdoorsy(Lucien) and Outsidey(Elain).

The Elucien Mommy and Daddy bracelets made me remember about these WIPs! And by WIPs I mean please squint because these are the definition of underbaked. I know this will probably land me on some weirdo E/riel hit list but I love the idea of Lucien and Elain having a bunch of kids. They both seem like they'd LOVE being parents.

Here's Daddy Lucien:

He's the type of dad who loves doing his girls' (and boys') hair and will only let Elain do it if she absolutely insists.

Mommy Elain:

Elain I imagine being the world's funnest mom and wants to play with her kids 24:7. She bakes them their favorite meals for the entire week of their birthdays and forces everyone to obsess over each of them. If you're wondering who the most energetic one is it's the Lucien flavored one in the middle, obviously.

It's okay for someone not to like Lucien Vanserra but I'll just stay here on the side of people who do - including the author. "I mean, he's hot" - Sarah J Maas "Lucien has always been one of my favorite character." - Sarah J Maas "My <3" - Sarah J Maas "One of my favorite TV / Movie crushes is Outlander. I've been obsessed with him since I read the books and now that it's on TV the "real life Jamie" is everything I'd dreamed he'd be. I'd probably pee my pants if I saw Sam up close. I was in the room for the giant Outlander panel room at Comic-Con and just sharing the same breathings pace was too much for me so I would probably lose my mind if he was 20 feet away from me instead of a thousand feet away." Sarah J Mass who went on to base Lucien's Character off Jamie Fraser then thanked Sam Heughan in her ACOTAR acknowledgments.

Also Sarah: Spoke about the crazy friendship chemistry Lucien and Feyre have always had and despite their bump in the road has been repairing that friendship. Set Lucien up to be a High Lord. Mated him to an Archeron. Always wanted him to end up with an Archeron even though the first fell through for reasons. Had him defy the main villain in book 1. Gave him a tragic backstory that "he's never forgotten despite pretending he has". Had him "setting his sights" on Koschei in SF. Wrote him as someone Azriel is jealous of. Wrote him as someone who Rhys and Feyre rely on for information. Gave him a connection to the Trove items through his ancestral blood. Wrote him with dominance flashing in his eyes over Cassian.

Thoughts I’m having about the Archeron sisters and FMCs:

I believe Elain and Nesta became very special to Sarah because she never intended to make them likable, but still gave them traits of herself that society/patriarchy hates to see in women.

Feyre, by contrast, reads like a mirror of social expectations: always functioning and looking hot while doing so.

Aelin is the first character Sarah created at a very young age, so probably the type of woman teenage Sarah looked up to. And back in the 2013-16 YA era, there was a distinct heroine archetype: fierce, badass, and, most importantly, not like other girls. 🙂‍↕️

Their flaws always felt performative. They were stubborn or rebellious, but never too sensitive or, god forbid, passive. The girly girl was usually the naive best friend, created to make the heroine look even more intelligent, loyal, selfless, you name it.

I remember an interview where SJM said she’d love to hang out with Elain or Aelin because they like girly things. But while Aelin still fulfilled every aspect of your perfect FMC, Elain was just a woman, so ofc it was fine to trash-talk her to no end.

Another thing: I don’t think people back then were ready for the conversation about FMCs struggling with depression and books portraying how empty, useless and lazy a woman can feel. That craving love and protection doesn’t take away from her strength.

From reading Nesta’s pov we know, Sarah is ready to address those topics now. That’s why I have such high hopes for Elain. Because many of us saw her potential from the start. 🤭
