I haven't seen or read Project Hail Mary so the more I see about it, the weirder it gets. Like.

Grace got space napped while working at a middle school (couldn't be any of the science teachers I worked with tbh, they'd be all over that shit) and Rocky's family (? Or crew?) got hate crimed by nonsentient space mold? Or maybe they both were, I'm not sure. They give off big Chewy and Han vibes despite sharing zero characteristics except maybe (?) flying a spaceship together. Either way, they're both full on cryptids at this point.

Adrian (?) is basically the anthropomorphized Emerald City of Oz. I'm not 100% sure this character even exists. Have I been Goncharoved by fanon?

Stratt might be public enemy number 1, she might be your mom, and/or she might give Astarion a run for his sad little meow meow money. She's stylish but her hair is dirty. She's in charge of planet earth but she's in jail. She doesn't give a shit about Grace but she'd stop a bullet with her body for him, question. (Maybe she is River Song.)

There are pebbles that follow Grace around? All I can imagine is a giant mound of fruity pebbles flowing around like a sentient cereal avalanche. Alternatively and way creepier: spider clusters like those photos from Australia. Also not sure these actually exist.

Eridians appear to be perplexed by water. And hate eating? They seem to be blind. They sing? They universally wear those clear plastic rain coats for inexplicable reasons. I imagine them as gigantic but apparently Rocky is about the size of a dog. I have no idea how they communicate with humans except that grammar and punctuation doesn't seem to be part of it.

I haven't yet figured out what the actual point of any of it is. Something about the sun going out, but how does that impact Rocky exactly? Why is Grace the only one who can fix it?

It's gotten to the point where I want to watch the movie because it seems good, but the outsider image is so entertaining I almost don't want to mess it up with reality. :p

Eridians can't tell the difference between a human being and a jellyfish. Which okay, fair. I'm betting humans can't tell the difference between a sleeping Eridian and a pile of rocks. Jerks.

Tangent: What if Stonehenge is actually a bunch of Eridians.

Adrian is apparently the most desirable broad in the entire universe so there's like 10,000 Eridians pissed as fuck that Rocky's coming home.

Forgot to mention that apparently Grace eats himself. I admire his flexibility and/or I'm sorry he has to do that. Either way I think I'm with the Eridians about eating being worse than clipping your toenails at a funeral if that's their only experience with it.

Project Hail Mary AU Idea???

What about an AU that is almost the same except for Rocky wasn't alone on the ship? All of his crewmates survive? Adrian is there? Eridians come across strange squishy alien in space and go "ours now"? Then Grace GOES BACK FOR THEM when the taumeoba eats through their fuel and he rescues them all. I uh... don't know the logistics of how they'd fit on the Hail Mary - maybe somehow he rescues them before ALL the fuel is gone and they fix the ship and they make some... glued together monstrocity ship of the Hail Mary and Blip-A. (The Hail-A? Blip-Mary?) Rocky and him still become bffs - because they sent Rocky out (he was the most willing) first and then they slowly revealed everyone else. (Grace: ... ... I need to make a lot more ramen spaceships... :/) Maybe Rocky (and Adrian???) spend more time on the hail mary portion with him than others. Or something. Just a thought tumbling in my brain.

Thinkin' about this like I don't have fifty-billion ideas for stuff already :/ But imagine - Grace getting collectively adopted by a group of Eridians deciding that this leaky human was 'ours now' and 'no take backsies' Do I just want to see a fic with Grace in a xenonite protective ball/suit in the middle of a rock cuddle-pile in space and am doing everything I can to justify it? Maybe.
