why your sewing machine is acting up: - tension is wrong - wrong needle size - thread bit stuck somewhere - tension again - needs a deep clean and oiling - you said something and now its offended and refusing to cooperate until you realize your error and beg forgiveness
Wulfgar, where have you been?
Oh not much, just helping build a goat farm with my partner.
And guess what happened?
We have kids on ground! I repeat, we have kids on ground!
Everyone, meet Viktor! The first buckling of Black Dog Livestock LLC!
He was born at 2:00 MST on 1/26/2026. His mom, Nora, is just amazing. There were no complications, and he was up and moving a half hour after birth.
We have 5 more does expected to give birth in the next few days, and 22 more expected over the next 6 months!
It is too early, I'm at work without my headphones and still in my muck boots. I was up at 3:30 this morning because another doe gave birth yesterday at around 4:00pm.
The birth was fine, momma and buckling are both healthy, the issue is the doe's ability to produce milk. Hence me being up at 3:30am to check on the kid.
He was laying away from his mom and shivering, not great signs. I grabbed the doe to check her for milk and she is bone dry.
We now have a bottle baby! If we can get him to take a bottle, if worse comes to worse, we have a doe who had a stillborn. We will put her in a milking stand and let the buckling drink from her.
Photos coming when I have some to post!
Ok, so some things happened! Buggz has been successfully grafted to Jules, the doe that had the stillborn.
On top of that, another doe gave birth yesterday at around 1:00pm to a set of twins! They have been named Willy and Dilly. Willy is a buckling and Dilly is a doe!
Willy is the one behind mom, and Dilly is the one laying down.
I can't wait for more kids!
Welp, as per usual, goats are pure chaos! We have two new bucklings! Born at 10:30am to one of our older does. She is also unable to produce milk and hasn't attempted to feed them so they will be bottle babies.
The two new boys have names!
The white one with the brown patches is Rocky, and the brown one is Bullwinkle!
Another kid on the ground! This time it's a doe! She has yet to be named, but she has a gorgeous red frosted coat that we're excited to see come in!
Welp! Kids are dropping like crazy! We got another buckling from our older doe Judy. This is Bulky!
Oh boy, there are some updates to be made!
Let's see...
Since Bulky was born, we have had 14 kids been born! Ten of those kids were born as 5 sets of twins in the last 4 days. Three of them were in one day.
As of right now, in total, we have 22 surviving kids and 5 who have passed for various reasons. The losses are upsetting, but we are so happy to have more kids then we even expected. We have essentially doubled our herd numbers this kidding season.
And there is one more doe due this month, and about 5 more who were unfortunately bred after the big breeder buck broke into the doe pen. They will give birth sporadically until August.

10000 YEAR OLD ROCK ART OF GIRAFFES FOUND IN LIBYA LET'S GO
YES!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
of note: 95% of libya is desert, and giraffes are not found there! but this predates not just the libyan desert, but the entire sahara desert it's a part of! giraffes aren't found there any more and this is a memory of a time when things were giraffier
also apparently this rock art dates across multiple periods spanning thousands of years? but i couldn't find much detail on that so i can't give specifics
but yeah, this isn't just a memory of giraffes, but of giraffes now absent encountered by people just 2000 years (the difference between the late roman republic and today) out of the ice age, in a climate unfamiliar to any of the hundred billion people born since the desertification of the sahara drove the ancient egyptians to the nile, near the start of the agricultural revolution
the time between this and the birth of the sahara was nearly as long as the time between the birth of the sahara and now, in which all recorded history is contained, and all languages we can recognise at all - the language and culture of these people would be totally alien to current libyans, twice the difference between the oldest european language and english, predating all but libya's mountains!
and we have pictures of giraffes of the time! what a beautiful gift from such a distant past

yeah i like to give my blessing to the most pathetic looking weak little knight at the tournament. she can’t even look me in the eye when i give her my flower and she stutters out that she’ll do her best or something of the like. i think its funny when she has to cry and beg my forgiveness and i get to say “such a shame, i suppose my hand in marriage will have to go to someone else…” and then i get to hear her whimper like a dog. ive done this like 6 times alrea-
did she just win.
I shall prepare a stew for the wedding! Extra salt!

I can clearly remember the moment I first realised my mother and I were living on completely different planes of existence. I was 7 years old and I came home from my school's first track and field day having placed second or third in every event. the teachers had been making jokes all afternoon about how many times they had to call my name. my friends thought I was cool as shit. my enemies thought I was cool as shit too, come to think of it. I was proud as hell. so I get home with the entire front of my shirt covered in ribbons like I was a military dictator who'd awarded himself every medal, I walk into the kitchen and tell my mum all about my day, and she goes "oh, that must be disappointing not getting any firsts." and I'm like no?? first of all the first place ribbons are red and I don't like red. second of all look at me. there's literally nowhere left on my body for accolades. I am fucking Jacked of All Trades. how could this possibly be a disappointment.

The Haudenosaunee bands near me will be having a fundraiser to support their language class going north in the coming months. My partner teaches for them and I was asked if I could donate so I thought I would try a turtle basket that matched more of their Nations properties, such as the colors and lines representing Six Nations.
