Happy Easter!
Relevant XKCD: https://xkcd.com/2609/
theres ALWAYS a relevant XKCD for everything huh
I was thinking of a pride art challenge people could do with their OCs, because I thought it'd be cute! A queer/trans artist with their creations.
but then I realised that same challenge would be infinitely more funny with folks who have atypical or horror OCs

After all, he learned from the bestā¦
lil tidbit about Solar
Not a funni comic and a bit nerdy, but i wanted to write about something that i find cool lol.
The exception is solar thermal energy, which uses the heat of the sun to do a variety of things, which sometimes means boiling water for electricity.
Anyways, trains and solar panels are cool for non-Factorio reasons.
absolutely looosssinggg it. i'm so obsessed with movies which portray the woman MC in a highly specific job because the writers clearly think it's like "off-beat" and "quirky" but have no idea how the field works whatsoever.
i decided to try a romcom i somehow missed i the 2000s 'head over heels' and i got 3 and a half minutes in and we're introduced to the lonely MC with bad taste in men as evidenced by her extremely short list of ex boyfriends, including her first boyfriend when she was 11 or something because i guess that's still relevant in her adult life.
so she's resigned herself to never finding love and prefers to ignore men to focus all her energy into her career.
this job is immediately presented as though it's for spinsters with no hope of ever finding a man.
the mc's lesbian bestie (whose first line involves her being scolded for being too sexual in the workplace, but moving on) points out their colleagues as evidence that they're doomed to a romance-less, sexless life if they don't switch up their shared career path. the colleagues are three old women, so-dubbed "the menopause triplets":
these women are presented as if they have no idea what's going on at any given moment. this is 2001, and presumably this is an entry level job requiring low effort and no experience.
then their boss bursts into the room, unceremoniously bumping a large painting into the door jam and walls, announcing that it's a new project for our MC.
our MC is thrilled to see the painting. apparently it's a light in the daily slog at her dreary job for loser women with nothing going on in their lives.
And that job is? Conservator of paintings (specializing in Renaissance) at the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The painting being handled like an old couch on its way to the curb?
The Bacchanal of the Andrians by Titian.
Her lesbian colleague who is presumably also a a highly trained & skilled curator finds it depressing that the MC is so excited about the painting.
it's a quirk unique to this MC that she cares so much about paintings, in her department at the metropolitan museum of art, where her colleagues find all that art business rather dreary. because we all know that's what conservators in extremely competitive museum positions are like.
I'm not saying there can't be lifelong love in here somewhere but I also just feel like the monogamous heterosexual marriage you're fantasizing about isn't necessarily best represented by the bacchanal. and that's okay. but i do stand by that.
Vatican City isn't a country. Fuck you.
It doesn't have a population or community. It has employees. It's basically just the Catholic Church's corporate headquarters.
If Vatican City is a country, then Google's Googleplex office is a country.
And Europe isnāt a continent
Absolutely. Europe is a series of peninsulas on the western tip of Asia.
technically, asia isn't a continent either. africa, europe and asia (or afroeurasia) are all one giant continent
Not since 17 November 1869.
manmade canals aren't oceans by any stretch of the imagination
Tell that to the jellyfish.
afroeurasia briefly became a thing again in 2021
Does that mean both the Americas are also one continent?

Passed the White Pharaoh on the freeway
Wow the sun boat has seen better days

I will always reblog this
still remember how revolutionary this ad felt 10 years ago
excuse me but it still feels revolutionary
Keep reblogging until it feels normal everywhere.
For context: this came out in 2011 in Australia. Same-sex marriage would not be legalized until December 2017.
It was only legalized in 8 US states (the 8th only a few months before), and wouldnāt be legalized nation-wide until 2015.
It was only legal in TEN COUNTRIES in 2011. We wouldnāt hit 20 countries until 2017. (Australia was 23rd)
As of today (April 14, 2026), I believe only 38 countries have fully legalized same-sex marriage. Out of somewhere around 200 countries in the world. Thatās only ~19% of countries.
This is still revolutionary.
I logically know itās revolutionary but it just seems like an ordinary video to me. If I had seen that without the context added by the reblogs i probably wouldāve scrolled away after the first 30 seconds assuming it was just some plain old video about someoneās relationship.
I am kinda an oblivious person, and was unintentionally sheltered as a kid. Didnāt even learn about gay or trans people till I was in my teens. And by then Iām certain it was legal in my state. I donāt remember ever having any real thoughts about it, just āhuh neatā.
Basically by being oblivious I somehow skipped over developing bigotry. Never learned it was a thing till after it was accepted and thus wasnāt exposed to the negative views of it.
on multiple occasions i have seen people on socials excited for palworld 1.0 and it has taken me a moment to realize they aren't doing a bit and are genuinely excited
Gamer here! This phenomenon can be explained from Palworld being what is considered a "good game" (任天å 仄å¤ć®ć²ć¼ć ććć¬ć¤ćć¦ćć ćć), which can be a concept that is difficult for fans of "Pocket Monsters" from the last decade or so to conceptualize. For futher reading, I suggest "On the Genealogy of Morals" by Friedrich Nietzsche and "Open Veins of Latin America" by Eduardo Galeano, hope this clarifies things!
i've spent the last several hours responding to comments and asks following up from this thread coming from various different angles with varying degrees of hostility, i have read hundreds of different responses, and in spite of that this is the worst response i've read all evening. you should really reconsider ever speaking again if i'm being honest
Are you. Sure you arent a bit upset abt this
i mean yeah i'm a little annoyed by the way some people on here are speaking to random strangers but i wouldn't say upset.
i think the fact these are people who are genuinely pressed about someone not liking Palworld kind of disarms any need to be seriously pissed off. it's like the same feeling as when a random 12 year old on the street swears at you, y'know? like "what the fuck", but also no i'm not about to actually take you seriously.
admittedly i do see how "you should reconsider ever speaking again" probably does make me sound more mad than i am, but what you have to understand is that at my core i am a catty bitch and will leap at the chance to prove it the moment i have the moral high ground to do so
Kind of tangential but I honestly do not understand the whole PokƩmon versus Palworld debate between fans.
Cause as someone who has played and enjoyed both they are very different games. The only thing I can think they have in common is the creature collection aspect. (And in that case yes Palworld clearly took inspiration from PokĆ©monās style) But in terms of actual gameplay, they are very different games. One is an RPG and the other is a survival crafting game.
I love Palworld but it doesnāt scratch the same itch as Pokemon and vise versa.
Like in pokemon itās built around the pokemon battles and thereās something fun about putting together a good team and battling with them. With all the held items, moves, abilities, consumables and switching out you gotta use your wits to succeed and thereās just something satisfying about that.
Palworld is about the base building and exploration. Itās fun to do a few raids or dungeons. But the real fun is in optimizing your base. Breeding the best worker pals and make number go up.
Both are amazing and I hope they both go far.
(Well I suppose there is one part of the discourse, I understand. The BS Nintendo is trying to pull with patents is just so scummy and I hate that itās attached to one of my favorite franchises. But thatās less of a Pokemon Vs Palworld debate and more a Nintendo tries to screw over other game developers issue.)
Thereās a reason I really like āhumans are space orcsā or āspace farā ect stories. Across both sci-fi and fantasy humans are often just the default āplainā race. And that feels kind of reductive to both humans and aliens. It makes us feel kind of pointless and it makes aliens just feel like human+. So I really like this genre because it explores humans as something different with their own strengths.
That being said Iām now running into the opposite problem where Iām getting tired of reading stories where humans are just like overpowered gods compared to every other species.
I wanna read stories where we interact with creatures with completely different strengths and weaknesses than us. Stories that acknowledge the evolutionary path humans went on and explore how that makes us different from creatures that evolved from a different path.
Like we evolved from tree dwelling primates, we are likely a lot more comfortable climbing than say a species that evolved from a burrowing animal who would be more comfortable in enclosed spaces than us.
Or the human endurance, we evolved to be persistent pursuit hunters. Itās where our sweat comes from, itās part of our thermal regulation that allowed our ancestors to run/walk for miles after their prey. We likely have way more endurance than any creature that evolved from an ambush predator but they might be faster or stronger.
Or going back to our hunting methods we also evolved to use projectiles. Like our brains and arms literally evolved to throw with distance, power, and accuracy. Us having athletes that can throw a ball at over 90 mph would be insane to a species without that adaptation. Maybe we even developed projectiles earlier in our civilization than other species. But they likely have their own sport based on something we might not even be able to do.
There are so many cool features that we can have different than other species. And there are so many features other species could potentially have that would be awesome to us. Like imagine the dexterity of something that evolved from a cephalopod. Or the agility from something that evolved from a feline.
Basically, I donāt want one side, human or alien to be overpowered. I want them to look at each other and both be amazed at what the other can do.

I think Iāve heard part one of that before. Pretty sure Agro Squirel read it on his YouTube channel
Did not know there was more, and I definitely know what Iām going to be reading for the next week⦠or actually I should probably start next week because I have a lot of shit I need to get done this week
Anyway, thank you so much for the recommendation!!!
I hate the videoification of everything. If I have to hear one more video of someone speaking closely into their shitty mic and I have to have all their yucky wet mouth noises and plosives and nose whistles and throat clearings and sniffles I am going to dig a vertical hole the exact dimensions of my body and Iām going to slither in head first
as someone with misophonia, the widespread popularization of asmr audio editing + people that are being pushed to make video content with no formal training and have no idea how to edit their audio (ex college professors, average joe tiktokers, etc) is literally my nightmare scenario. this is hell I am in hell
this is actually the last straw for me I need to start sending people emails
Oof yeah
ASMR sounds and hearing too much mouth or body noises just give me the heebei jeebies. I just canāt with them (same with the video ones with squeezing slime out of something. Need to look away fast or I feel queasy)
(Mild tangent but the only ASMR thing Iāve ever understood was this one streamer who does campfire songs ASMR. To be honest, I do not understand how those are the same thing at all. One is creepy noises that make my skin crawl and the other one is someone gently singing? Just doesnāt make sense.)
I just will never understand why people like those videos/audio. Itās just so alien to me.
