It’s the end of summer, 2021. I’m loading my entire life into the back of a moving truck. It’s my entire life, but it’s not all of my stuff. I didn’t have room for everything, especially as we had to pack my partner’s life in here too, and getting a bigger truck would cut into our savings, built up working 60 hours a week for months. All of this is not even considering that it’ll be my first time as the driver of a vehicle like this, and I’m already nervous about driving a 10-foot truck. Mostly, I didn’t give myself time to pack it all, and I can’t stay here for even one second longer than I have to. I’ve been stuck inside for the past year and a half, and that was hard enough before I came out as trans to my parents six months into the pandemic. Before my mother started asking me whether I would rather have her in my life or be trans. Before that night when my father shouted that I killed his son.
