For those who have missed my earlier post going around on the subject, Wyrmrest Accord player Mephest/Croft passed away monday night after being struck by a young driver illegally driving without supervision. I am not going to focus on my anger over this because it’s impotent and pointless to do so, but I can’t help at least a bit of raw dwelling on the subject because it was such a totally unfair, undeserved, and avoidable accident.

And a big emphasis on unfair. It’s never fair, but Jordan was so young, vibrant, and full of good things. A lot of people might recognize him as the “positivity troll”, for better or for worse, but I can say that outlook was in earnest. His primary goal in everything he did was to make people laugh, be it through biting quips, unexpected posts in RP, or just plain having a knack for pointing out the absurd in every situation.

I was not as close to him as some in my circle who have had deeply personal friendships with him for the past several years, but we did chat frequently. I’ve had the pleasure of roleplaying with him, raiding with him, and taking art commissions from him. The hardest part about this so far has been the notion that I’m never again going to see a ping by his name on my friends list only to discover it’s just another grotesque yaoi hands image. I’m never going to get interrupted in voice chat by another drive-by “fuck you! fight me!”. Little stupid things that seem like meaningless funny interactions at the time that you don’t realize until later how much they made you smile.

I am going to miss him so, so much.

He has been a longstanding part of the community (since the server’s inception, I believe) and leaves behind a vacuum of creativity and cheer. I hope everybody does their part to fill it.
