who am i and what do i do?

Hi, my name is Zephaniah! I'm a community college student planning on getting a BA in Social Work and Human Services. I'm queer, disabled, and Jewish and I love writing and talking about what it's like to be those things.

I've been writing speculative fiction since I was four years old and still love it, and have recently found a new interest in nonfiction focused on various topics like religion, gender & feminism, and personal experience.

Friendly reminder that you are not a bad person for not reading or watching the news. For not following every single event that happens. It can be so overwhelming and it is okay to step away from it. Some of us are fighting our own little wars, putting out our own little fires, trying to solve our own little crisises. I know you might feel horrible and selfish, but I promise you that you are not. So many bad things are currently happening and it can make you feel helpless, sad, anxious and as if the weight of the world is on your shoulders, but you cannot carry it; it is absolutely okay to distance yourself from that in order to take care of your mental health. It does not mean that you do not care about others and their misery. I know that. You know that. And that is all that matters, my love.

ppl will parade around disability rights for disabled folks but treat individuals who actually need help and care, patience, and might not contribute much (which is not a moral failing) as an absolute emotional and physical burden and honestly it's just full blown ableism that's hidden under therapy speech and performativity.

from my own experiences as a disabled individual both mentally (mild intellectual disability) and probably physical, it's hard for me to do certain things, I need help. I can't work a job so I mostly draw pictures and get tipped for it. I feel like a burden for it because my mother would treat me that way while trying to be "encouraging" Abt my disabilities.

the world is already cruel towards us so it's even harder dealing with ppl who understand disability but refuse to extend any patience or kindness.

I don’t think most Tumblr people are intentionally trying to hurt anyone with moral OCD when they make posts that say things like “even after you apologize you should continue to think about how terrible you were and never forgive yourself” and “meditate constantly on your ability to do harm” and “if you don’t reblog this you’re part of the problem” and “you yes you are not doing enough for the cause” but it sure as hell is a real common side effect.

I know popular media depicts Nazis as like vampires, driven by predatory instinct and goth fashion, but they did think they were the good guys. They thought they were noble warriors of justice fighting evil, doing whatever it took to protect their children. Thinking you're a good guy fighting bad guys does not preclude you from acting like a Nazi.

It’s annoying that some people don’t understand that evil people don’t do evil things because they want to be evil. They do them because they don’t think they are evil. The Nazis did what they did because they believed what they were doing was necessary and justified.

People have argued that this tendency comes from people being scared of the possibility that they might be just like the Nazis, too convinced of the righteousness of their cause to see what they have done. Maybe that’s true, or maybe people are just ignorant, either by choice or circumstance.

Who knows, not me that’s for sure.

Hamas and ilk does not sit there rubbing hands thinking theyre being evil and cruel. They genuinely believe they are solving a problem and fulfilling a gd given mandate. That is how they educate the gazan population. That is how nazis were educated. the church. millions of people. They truly and fully believe that ridding the world of (zionists, capitalist, communists, billionaires, throw in whatever dog whistle for Jew you have) is a mitzvah. I wish I could go back in time to write a sci-fi cyberpunk dystopian novel in which the world ends because of AI not because of robots enslaving humans or replacing them, but because Evil Corporation™ decided to call a fancy chatbot an Artificial Intelligence to market it (when it actually isn't true AI) and cause global warming, wars, lack of resources and rampant misinformation just to make money off of it.

Unfortunately, if I did it now it would just be called unoriginal, and nowadays the general public has pretty much accepted that AI means "something like chatgpt" (while we used to imagine AIs as something more like C3-PO, HAL-9000 or Skynet)

Sex isn't actually biological either, by the way.

Sex is the social construct we use to attach gender to bodies.

If it was actually about science, they would have updated biology classes with info about intersex variations as soon as they were discovered and documented - the way animal biology does with new species, and chemistry does with new elements.

There are over 40 different intersex variations named and described by medicine!! We know for an absolute fact that intersex traits exist, including chromosome sets besides just XX and XY - there's also XXY, XYY, XXX, X-null, and more. If this was actually about science, you would have been taught about them.

If it was actually about science, you would have been taught that what we think of as biological sex isn't any kind of binary - it's constellations of averages of similar traits, any of which may or may not occur alongside any other sex-associated traits in any specific person.

If it was actually about science, we wouldn't actually still be arguing about this, period, because the fact that the sex binary is false undermines the entire rationale for the gender binary's existence.

And if it was actually about science, intersex people would be subjected to a hell of a lot fewer infant genital mutilations and other human rights violations.
