a teensy bit more about me
hello world!
if you've made it all the way down here, hello! hi:3
welcome to a project I've been working on for many years. 3, to be exact! which may not seem that long to you, but for me, the soup started as a way for me to collect resources as an isolated, abused teenager and give me a source of hope. I think it gave me something to hoard, to call my own, even though it never really was. it was and always has been just my organization of the people’s brilliance. with this outpouring love and a community I could finally call myself apart of, I learned to let go of false ownership and instead grow a true love for archiving, for sharing and chatting and reading.
now, I am a happy, purposeful young adult who doesn’t really identify with solarpunk anymore, and that time seems like forever ago. yet I continue collecting these resources and sharing the entire eco-rebellious community's brilliance as an ode to that younger self, and because I still believe in the solarpunk community and it's message:
hope! keep hoping! endure! keep enduring! keep fighting back! above all else, we must survive, we must dream, and we must LOVE!
I hope you reflect upon these with the same gentle, hopeful heart I always have. Praise the authors, love them, love yourself, and let our hope inspire you to create and act and be.

“It is clear that, up to now, the forces of production have never been developed to the point where enough could be developed for all, and that private property has become a fetter and a barrier in relation to the further development of the forces of production.
Now, however, the development of big industry has ushered in a new period. Capital and the forces of production have been expanded to an unprecedented extent,”
Oh Mr Engels, you’d shit your pants if only you knew how bad it gets
this one is for the marxists, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and people who in many instances have absolutely no clue what they are doing. love you guys
If there is anything I can leave you with, if there is a message I can chisel in your soul, I hope is this: Refute the moderate solution, refute to be suppressed, refuse to be anything but radical and absolute. Take radical action, read books that talk about the dirty reality of the world, get a gun, a be unapologetic, reject respectability politics and go all in on the most violent solution possible to the current state of affairs. There is no other way.
"i do not dream of labour" is one of the worst pseudo-marxist taglines that western leftists have co-opted because when you ask them what they do dream of, they say traveling, studying, and creating art. broski, who's flying the plane to take you to prague? who's the security at the library with the texts you're studying? who are the clerks in the museum showcasing your art? like bro, you do dream of labour. you just dream of someone else doing it so you don't have to! you merely want to outsource the labour and make it invisible.

it's easy to recognize many of the harms carried out by capitalism, but if you stop there you'll end up feeling that all you can do to combat it is to shop ethically, upcycle, and refuse to work in the worst industries. refusing to work for an arms company is commendable but none of those actions, alone or together, work to fundamentally change the system when they're divorced from organized political action that's aimed at transforming the base relations of society
capitalists will never choose to regulate capitalism out of existence, so we have to remove their control of the political system — including the violent bodies of the state, such as the military and police — so that the working masses can run society and transform how the economy, and politics, is run, for the benefit of the vast majority
don't lose hope of changing things, read marxist theory and join a communist party instead
I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.
Veganism is better for the environment, but claiming that it's a morally superior choice ignores cultural and economic factors that make people eat animal products.
It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.
okay I just have to comment on this as a vegetarian who doesn't care when people eat meat and does agree with your initial post, but hates your rb:
comparing "sustainably sourced animal protein" to "imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor" (or even just whole food type plants farmed unsuitably) is completely unfair and it's very obvious that this is a ridiculous comparison. it's like comparing factory farming to "local, sustainably sourced" plant-based diets to leverage the data and conclusion in your favor.
I can only speak from experience (in my short search I couldn't find data about where vegetarians source their proteins online, just about how much protein they ate) when I say that I am around a lot of people who don't eat meat, and our primary source of protein tends to be carbs like pasta and then also beans. and at least in the USA, most beans are grown here in the United States (only 20% are exported). we are not regularly eating imported fake meat products that are farmed unethically and unsustainably.
im tired of people assuming I always just eat Beyond Meat or imported tofu. im not looking to imitate meat.
instead of comparing apples to oranges to a crowd that only loves apples, can we compare apples to apples and just say that the better solution is one where everyone is eating whole plants that are farmed sustainably and/or sustainably sourced meat? perhaps even both? if we can compare fake meat products like, for example, an impossible whopper to locally sourced meat, on the other hand then people should be able to compare the ethics of locally sourced beans to a regular whopper burger. It's not fair either way.
I feel like the real core of the debate in these conversations would lie in whether or not a locally sourced omnivore diet or locally sourced herbivore diet is more sustainable, but it's really not an argument that's even worth having because I'm assuming that would have a very minimal footprint either way.
I don't understand the point about this if we're just going to be comparing the pits of hell to the bounties of heaven no matter what your stance is. like comparing worst case scenario to best case scenario on either side. And if we get fair and compare "the bounties of heaven" to "the bounties of heaven" it doesn't even matter.
I use this religious metaphor because you just start coming across just like the person you're mad at, but from the other side. it behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.
alternatively, we could team together to help support both agricultural and livestock farmers produce sustainable and healthy food for all of us. I don't mean to sound like a centrist but I feel like neither of these arguments are really a solution and are just fueling more nonsensical arguments that unnecessarily further the divide, and you really did have it in the first half.
also some people in the comments are acting like they never eat fruit or vegetables which is insane. guys please eat a well rounded and nutritious diet that includes vegetables and fruit whether or not you eat meat if you can. you need vitamins
also I added some pizazz to this thrifted backpack for when I go back to school this fall!! im very grateful because im no longer homeless, so I don’t have to take out huge loans to live on campus and now the cost of my schooling is completely covered by scholarships since I’m just charged for tuition and not a dorm. i also live a 10 minute walk from a free bus route that takes me right to my college, so im very fortunate and very grateful.
the prison patch i got from etsy (@retirementfund) and the “do not pet” is one i found in a dumpster.

ways I've been navigating my life and spending money as someone who is poor but less poor than I was, hates spending money, loves my community and is terrified of microplastics
wowwww im so good at short and snappy titles /s
I'm not someone who is wealthy, though I'm certainly not as poor as I was when I started this account like 6 years ago when I was 16. Still, I am always battling between choosing the cheaper option and choosing what I know is good for me.
Often, I choose the cheaper option even if I can afford the better option because I have a lot of poverty shame I work through, and I am very careful with what little money I have because I'm so worried about the future. It's all very unstable right now.
To combat this, I have been trying to find an in-between of making sustainable, ethical swaps that feel like a safe amount of money for me. Because I'm poor. We're all working class people trying to make it. Especially as we head into more turbulent times, I find myself going back to old remedies I made when I was a teenager with no money, and now I'm just jazzing them up a bit.
I know that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. But with what little money I do have, I try to give it back to my community or use it to make my life easier and more enriching, especially since I love to make things. Spending alone won't take down these mega-corporations, but conscious decisions greatly impact your neighborhood around you.
I live in an urban environment, so my money impacts the grocery stores in my neighborhood, my refill stores, my library, local farmers, and my local used bookstores as much as I can manage. Again, not because I think I can take down Unilever or something without some serious force, but because I want to make decisions that benefit me and keep these people in my community around, housed and OK. I think it's important for me to be person-first about certain things like this now that I have the means to. it's something I'm working on in therapy
speaking of therapy! my therapist is sliding scale and virtual which is so wonderful because I can adjust it if im super short on money for a while, I can't afford the cost of full price therapy, and I dont have to travel because I dont drive.
my upstairs neighbor has a bunch of old bikes in our shared shed from her previous roommates so I asked to buy one off of her, and she gave it to me for free! I have a beach cruiser now and wanted a commuter style for easier travel
I needed a water bottle for work because mine has too many overtly political stickers (like, pigs in cop uniforms). I bought a kombucha in a glass bottle for $2 and took the label off. That's my going out water bottle now lol.
I've been selling my old clothes on Vinted so I can buy new ones with less plastic fibers used, glass containers, and things I need without disrupting my paycheck's strict budget.
This money was also used to get myself an actual pair of supportive shoes secondhand because I could never emotionally justify paying out of pocket for them, and I don't like buying new clothes.
When I sell the clothes, sometimes I make the package out of my brown paper grocery bags I've gotten from groceries if it's not too bulky or going too far. I decorate it to make it look fun.
I joined a menstrual cup swap group on Facebook and got two menstrual discs for free. I am giving my ones that don't work for me to a friend. If you're like me (probably insane) and trust a good boil, it's really nice to not have to shell out $20-40 a month.
I am making a bigger effort to go to the farmer's market for produce. I love my local farmers. But I having been crocheting and considering sewing some cotton bags so that they dump my berries into that instead of a plastic grocery bag. Also, the joy on a beekeeper's face when I get honey from them for only $1-2 more than at the store is basically an SSRI to me. That will change my whole day.
I stopped eating meat about a year ago. I realize now, the whole time I only liked the breading that they put on some meat like chicken nuggets. I was literally eating the breading off of corn dogs. Now I get most of my proteins from beans. Along with my personal carbon footprint and plastic packaging, my food waste is reduced because I'm not avoiding my meals or leftovers. And it's so much cheaper. I know this is a privilege, but doing this thing (even though it doesn't majorly change the whole world) changes my mindset and positively impacts how I make other decisions that can affect my well-being and my community.
I'm fortunate enough to live near stores with small bulk sections. When the sales are affordable, I stock up on things like walnuts and flour. It's often much cheaper and I can just use my old jars.
Same thing with bulk shampoo. My hair is genuinely so picky, and the herbal ones work better for me. The cost is about the same if not less, and I'm hoping to try bars soon or make some
I made my own bug spray yesterday. Deet triggers my asthma, and I had almost everything I needed at home to make a supply big enough to share with my friends who work outside and also have asthma. I just needed witch hazel ($3) and citronella oil (special ordered it from a local store and got a discount, making it also ~$3).
I am making my own deodorant using baking soda, arrowroot powder, and coconut oil. These are things I can also just get little scoops of from the bulk section at the grocery store. And then I'm making the things I need out of stuff I already have or only need to spend $1-2 on to complete, rather than a whole secondary product, and I can recycle my old containers for this. It also gives me a sense of security to know I can provide this necessity for my hygiene for myself with little to no money.
I GO TO THE LIBRARY! I cannot emphasize this enough. I can borrow some insane stuff from there. Even like a table for parties or a power washer. I get books, movies, yarn for crafting, puzzles, and more. I save money and use what's already in the world, and I spend time with others in my community.
I love dumpster diving! One of my favorite things to do is go dumpster diving with my friends. I love to stumble upon a big batch of tomatoes and share them. Stop the waste at the source and give it back to the people!
my town has a local free day at the laundromat for disabled people and people on benefits. i have no washer and am disabled, as is my lovely gf, and we love catching up with people at the laundromat, so we do our laundry there, and by logging our use in the form (first name and amount of laundry), the program gets its funding to continue.
at my current job (I work at a grocery store now), we get to take home expired or damaged food. I supplement my groceries with this a lot, and if the food is just damaged I will sometimes drop things into free little libraries or a cool new free food stand in my neighborhood if it's not taken by my coworkers at the end of the day
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
Honestly I’m baffled by everyone who’s just looking at the yogurt ad as the hight of Solarpunk like??? Are people actually only looking at one thing or are they looking at all the other pieces of media like the Solarpunk anthologies or even the Monk and Robot Duology by Becky Chambers. Like bruh it’s not that hard to look up “Solarpunk Manifesto” if they’re looking for real life applicants rather than fictional things. Side note: I do miss Solarpunk Action Week.
hi everyone. if your blog is centered around praxis, pls reblog this or say hello or something perhaps. no hate to anyone running aesthetic blogs, but im having a hard time finding about what everyone’s up to and creating in real life. I used to have an easy grasp of finding it but not anymore.

I think a thing that i find deeply frustrating from every political & philosophical perspective is a deep lack of engagement with medicine. I think at the very root of it is a sense of professional/expertise/authoritative domain. Most people do not talk about how to make medicine happen, they talk about creating conditions conducive to producing an effective medical class +/- production appartus. Anarchists are just as guilty of this as communists as reformerists: you can't tell me that most of the people who gesture at projects like four thieves, open insulin, boobs not bombs (don't get me started), and various street medicine projects aren't also just invoking the image of a detached force of competent agents.
I'll be a hater until the end of time but sometimes it is kinda hard to blame ur average disabled civvie's knee-jerk "what about my meds" because the question is conspicuously absent or relegated to ignorant grandstanding so, so often. Anyone actually critically examining the projects we often cite as easy, publicly available examples will quickly note that they *do* have deep flaws and vulnerabilities. Medicine is conspicuously absent from the texts we cite, pearlman doesnt talk about it, postciv! doesnt talk about it...because these works, no matter how much love I have for them, are really not actually concerned with disabled people all that much.
Most anticiv ppl i know are disabled/medication dependent ourselves & working on it, it's just like really fucking hard, and really hard to generate Texts(tm) while also doing the thing. It's a weird, long, slow process that I'm getting progressively better at & have been for years, but it's also something that happens in conversations and relationships and it's hard to iron out and commit to paper when honestly, synthesizing an effective, sustainable, bioregionally feasible medical MO in current times IS a field in its infancy AND one that looks radically different for every cohort because we are located in different places and starting from a point of different needs/conditions of priority.
Acting like the people who prioritize this just Have It on lock and will get it figured is doing everyone a disservice--it's a paper thin posture that disabled ppl are gonna see through, and it's reinforcing the idea that the average person in the imperial core doesn't need to have any concept of what they'd do with, idk, kidney stones or conjuctivitis or Whatever because they can Just See A Professional About It, even though we ***know*** that that idea doesn't hold up for tons of people NOW, let alone as collapse continues.
please know this if you're trans and queer: i will kill for you, i'll die for you, i'll grow a garden for you, i''ll teach you to farm and fish and build things, i'll teach you wilderness medicine, i love you and i love our survival more than anything
