🌝 Please play Omori, it’s really good-
A young paleontologist may have discovered a record of the most significant event in the history of life on Earth.
hey, @bunjywunjy - this might be your jam (and any other dinosaur enthusiasts, it’s a heck of a read)
man that’s not just a heck of a read it’s fuckin GROUNDBREAKING is what it is!
this dude actually found a large fossil deposit that was created not just close to, but actually DURING THE K-PG EXTINCTION EVENT.
IT’S LITERALLY A WINDOW BACK IN TIME TO THE CHICXULUB IMPACT, AND TURNS OUT IT WAS WORSE THAN ANYTHING WE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE IMAGINED
it’s a geologic snapshot of the apocalypse.
reading the full article is certainly a trip, and to summarize for those who are intimidated by longer reads:
- chicxulub is the given name for the meteor that struck/initiated the event
- the paleontologist within is described as making groundbreaking discoveries of multiple species every day, but many of his peers discount him because they’re grouchy old dudes he accidentally had a fragment of a turtle bone involved in a larger reconstruction of a fossil this one time and they won’t let him live it down.
- the extinction event was so fast and so destructive, this guy describes this particular dig-site as being so densely layered with dead and dying creatures, there is a lot of organic tissues that have been preserved, and he is able to even discern that many of the marine and freshwater fish may have still been alive as they were buried due to molten glass being found in their gills, implying they were still attempting to breathe.
- they looked into exactly when and how this could have happened, having freshwater and marine animals stacked on top of mammals and larger dinosaurs (including an amazing deinonychus forearm discovery he was able to match to feather fossils he was finding atop the pile), and rather it being the initial tsunami, they are fairly sure that it was caused by a seiche of catastrophic proportions, which would have been set off within the first hour of the event. denser and larger creatures sunk to the bottom, leaving lighter debris like leaves, small fish, feathers, and molten glass on the surface.
summary: terrifying!
This is fucking incredible
Holy SHIT!
Here’s a famous book snippet describing how feasible that we could find dinosaur fossils on the moon.
@paleogay
Adding this, since I didn’t know the word and pronunciation
so, yeah, the Caribbean Sea seiched up outta its bed and walloped the land with a deluge of sea creatures right after the impact apocalypse
nasa employee: oh hey u guys are back early
astronaut: moon’s got dinosaurs
nasa employee: what?
astronaut: *loading a pistol and getting back on the rocket-ship* moon’s got dinosaurs.
So, James Baxter visited my university…
Congrats, Griffin.

One of the best parts of having a toddler in your life that can navigate YouTube is they find some wild shit

Oh i would never claim this wasn't the bop of the century. I have taste
Oh yeah. This goes off honey
Japanese Sumo robots
this is the funniest gif i’ve seen all week what the fuck is going on
the best part is this isn’t even HALF the relentless bullshit insanity that goes on in robot sumo wrestling, a sport where the contestants are all hyperfast robots with scoop attachments and preprogrammed moves.
(this one wants to be a beyblade when it grows up)
the idea is to include as many unique moves as you can, to make your shrieking deathbot difficult to counter
or dodging. that works too.
also, some of the speed demons have… unorthodox attachments to fool other bot’s sensors
WIIINGS MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRR
robot sumo is also a sport where spectators may end up taking a small robot to the shins if they aren’t careful.
FLYYYYYYY
I hope you enjoyed our foray into madness!
IT GOT BETTER!!!
Y’all. Looking at professionally made sumo robots is great. You know what’s better though? Looking at extremely UNprofessionally made sumo robots.
Here enjoy.
oh my god please watch this video
“she gave up looking for the robot and sent us a photo of her having a beer. the crowd applauded this act of supreme crappiness.”
one robot is just a kleenex box with a bunch of dildos on it, one does nothing but shake a packet of instant soup, i love humanity so much right now
!!!
lads im goin into cardiac arrest
shoutout to the robot reacting to sound, transfixed at the cheering audience instead of its opponent

Goodbye AlphaDream
AlphaDream has filed for bankruptcy =[
It's truly a shame, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't somewhat expect it. The M&L series has been in decline ever since Dream Team. The series peaked with Bowser's Inside Story. It was only a matter of time.
Perhaps this will open Nintendo's eyes to the demand for a more fully-fleshed "classic-styled" Mario RPG like the original Paper Mario trilogy and Mario & Luigi trilogy - stories and experiences with a lot of heart.
Then again, perhaps this will make Nintendo drop the idea of Mario RPGs altogether. That would be very sad.
Either way, Alpha Dream will be missed. From their humble beginnings full of tomatoes, to their golden age of whimsical plumbers, they will be remembered.
is the werewolf from Scary Godmother furry bait
I looked at this image for literally 168 seconds in the thinking pose wondering if he really is or isn’t furbait. He crosses into the uncanny valley, but I say it’s absolutely possible for Harry to be furbait. He’s a werewolf and I do stand by my statement that all werewolves are furbait inherently furbait. Regardless of how messy his design may appear, he has cheek fluff, fangs, ears, and digitigrade legs. Those things are all furbait qualities and he is absolutely on the list of unlikely furbait.
I can tell you as the creator of Harry, he would argue incessantly online with you about your furbait musing… I’m sure he would ‘weresplain’ You til you went a bit insane. On a related note, I have yet to see any Harry cosplay… But, if you are so inclined, please post pix and tag me.
Miss Thompson with the four words of credential, “as the creator of…,” you have delivered a fatal blow to me. You are the first creator to contact me on a post, and I am incredibly starstruck, shocked, and speechless. I hope things are going great in your life, by the way.
On another note, that is kind of sad that there is no cosplay photos of Harry. I’m sure many of my loyal followers may take you up on that challenge. I’m up to that. I do see that it may be difficult to find those pajamas, however.
Happy Halloween to a defining moment of 2018

“There’s a cure?!” asked the girl that kills everything she touches. “Hey shut up we’re perf” replied the girl that makes clouds.
For real though. Storm has stopped an entire tsunami before. “Makes clouds my ass” she can conjure lightning and tornadoes and is revered as a god in her tribe. She literally changes atmospheric pressure and that’s how she flies. So fuck you. Storm is flawless.
I think you missed the part where the GIRL WHO KILLS EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHES wants to NOT KILL EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHES and everyone dismisses her incredible misfortune just because the lady who is the AVATAR OF THE STORM won the fucking SUPERPOWER LOTTERY
“Finally, a cure for my chainsaw hands!” decreed Chainsaw-Hands Joe.
“There is no cure,” said Johnny Five-Dicks. “There’s nothing wrong with us.”
The last comment literally always cracks me up
The X-Men are an extremely good metaphor for oppressed minorities until they are suddenly an extremely terrible metaphor for oppressed minorities.
The scale on which the first reply misses the point literally never ceases to awe me.
I gotta say, though, this is a place where the X-men are being a good metaphor for oppressed minorities. Specifically, in this case, the disabled community.
“Yay, there’s a cure!” says the girl with depression. “Cure for what, motherfucker, I’m not sick,” says the person with autism.
“Yay, there’s a cure!” I say, with my fibromyalgia and random bad pain days. “Yes, because it’s easier to talk about eliminating us than talk about teaching sign language in school,” says the Deaf person. “‘Cure’ is violent rhetoric.”
The problem is, of course, that a vast number of things have been aggregated under the label of “disability,” and many of them don’t even resemble each other. Depression sucks in an objective fashion, whereas autism is just a way of being (which, like many ways of being, may suck at some times, and generally sucks worse when not accommodated). Similar deal with chronic pain versus the Deaf community. These things really should not be grouped together, but they are. And since they are grouped so haphazardly, they will often be at cross-purposes.
It is ridiculous, in the X-men universe, to classify all “mutants” as one group. You have ridiculously powerful people with little downside, you have powerful people with a major downside, you have people with very limited powers but few drawbacks, you have people with limited powers and massive drawbacks, and that’s not even getting into other divisions, like whether you look like a baseline human all the time, part of the time, or none of the time. “Realistically,” if you can apply that word to a fantasy universe, Storm and Rogue belong to completely different minorities which should require completely different approaches. But society has grouped them under one umbrella, or forced them to group themselves for self-protection, and thus you have conversations like the one above.
So it’s actually not a bad take. Mind you, the X-men have had bad takes, and will do so again, and I’m skeptical about whether “powers” of any kind even work for a metaphor about minority representation—but this particular vignette has something useful to say.
