a lot of people use the term "Mary Sue" to describe a female character who exists in a place of importance in a given narrative and performs competently within her skill set and I think it's time we put that term on a very very high shelf.

“Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately ‘favouring’ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: “The talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.” In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.”

Every EVERY women’s studies class I’ve been in has had this problem and failed to address it.

So what I think is that there's this default belief in patriarchy that men are superior to women and therefore the "masculine" sphere is superior to the "feminine" sphere. And so, as feminists have fought to expand the number of allowable female activities, men (on the aggregate over generations) have retreated from those activities because they're now seen as "feminine", and so partaking in them is incommensurate with their belief in their own superiority. And, unfortunately, as this has progressed, this has resulted in a lot of men sectioning themselves off from, frankly, everything that actually makes being alive worthwhile. It's a misery spiral, and the only way out is to abandon male supremacy.
#men gave up deep friendships and reading and poetry and colourful fashion#all things that used to be considered manly in the 19th century#they're currently giving up on studying law and medecine#it's so stupid and sad
(I mean, the colourful fashion was more of an eighteenth century thing, but yeah)
#more women in higher education meaning fewer men is incredibly depressing to me. funny in a sad way#what happens when women will finally get into trades? will they just stop working

does anyone have that post about OSHA compliant sex work? something about a dude who shows up to a guy's house in full ppe to give him a dry handjob
Whenever a guy talks about leggings as a whole being immodest on women it's an immediate tip-off that he is a horndog who cannot control himself and is blaming women rather than doing some soul-searching
i love naming the elephant in the room (porn) in conversation because you're not supposed to do that and people are shocked but then they always agree with me. "teen boys are a menace these days" -> it's because of porn. "that's not normal behaviour" -> it's porn addiction. "does that imagery make anyone else uncomfortable" -> it's inspired by porn. "the way women are characterized" -> it's porn mythology. like ladies we are allowed to stay this stuff out loud
The UK rape gang inquiry report is one of the worst things I've ever read
The more I find out about the UK grooming gangs and rape gangs, the more I realize that the systemic rape of an entire country that was effectively protected by their government puts almost everything that happened with Epstein to shame. Especially in regards to raw numbers. What's even more wild, is the fact that they were protected purely because of who the victims majority were. Which was white Christian girls.
The sad reality however, is the fact that we aren't going to hear a lot of people talk about that. Because the reality is they don't care about it. Every single leftist who cries about the Epstein files is going to turn a complete and utter blind eye to the grooming gangs and rape gangs that were exploiting the UK. When according to reports the numbers of girls affected was around 250,000. Sad reality is most people don't even actually care about the victims of Epstein and the people who participated in his illicit activities. Because if they did they would be talking about the grooming gangs out of the UK as well. Of course they won't. Because the people who did it are not white or Jewish. Or Rich. Which is apparently the only time when rape is bad. If the perpetrator is the right religion or color, or the victim is the right religion or color.
And it really just baffles me because I see people go you want a know who isn't on the Epstein files illegal immigrants. To which I normally have to respond saying Yeah because Epstein didn't hang out with the poors. But second and third world countries are known as awful places for women's rights and bodily autonomy. Which is to say in a lot of those places they're consent doesn't really matter or exist. So, on an industrial scale the UK grooming gang scandal puts anything that happened with the Epstein stuff in a classification of "those are rookie numbers".
Certainly a crass way to put it. But the more info we find out, the worse it gets. What they did to these girls isn't just disgusting. It was basically done on an industrial scale. And I fully expect leftists to defend it or to force ignorance of it due to the people who did it and the people it affected. Which frankly is also pretty disgusting.

Let me be a woman by Elisabeth Elliot
Body Horror and Internalized Misogyny
This post showed up in my "for you" feed, and I commented that 63% of people have internalized misogyny, to which two other people asked how being afraid of getting pregnant was misogynistic, so I thought I would explain.
First, the option that the majority of people voted on was this: Pregnancy "sounds like unreal terrifying body horror". Not just something scary or dangerous, but body horror. So lets talk about that first.
Body horror comes from taking something normal and natural about the body and twisting it. Putting teeth where there should not be teeth. Grafting dozens of arms onto every part of the body. Faces in odd places. Limbs bending the wrong direction. Think Dark Souls et al.
Now, one could try to describe normal bodily processes as horrifying, but I wouldn't call this body horror. Take puberty, and all the crazy things your body goes through during it, or describe exactly how each organ keeps you alive in detail. Or take "Skeletons", by Ray Bradbury. This is a horror story in which a man feels aches in his bones and becomes convinces that his skeleton--all skeletons--are some form of Other, some entity inside people that is trying to get out. He describes seeing his wife's skeleton peering out of her mouth each time she smiles, and seeing the shape of people's bones poking out just below the skin.
The thing about this story is that the skeleton is not actually what is horrifying, but rather the man's phobia of the skeleton. It's one of those stories where the protagonist is clearly not in his right mind. It only veers into body horror once the inhuman doctor that first stoked his fears into a phobia shows up and sucks the skeleton out of the man, leaving a gasping, jelly-like mass with nothing to hold it up.
Body horror inherently comes from something being unnatural, something a body is not supposed to have or be able to do.
If one were to view a racial trait, such as more or less body hair, darker or lighter skin, or the presence or absence of epicanthic folds as horrifying, we would call that person racist. If they viewed their own racial traits as horrifying, we wold call that internalized racism.
So now we can circle back to pregnancy. True, pregnancy can be dangerous and scary, and one's body goes through some pretty crazy changes during and after it, but it's also something that female bodies have evolved to be able to do. The potential to become pregnant--the specific gametes and organs and hormones--is literally what makes a body female, at least for placental mammals like humans. Pregnancy is a normal, natural, uniquely and definitively female biological process.
You don't have to want to get pregnant, and it's totally fine to be scared about being pregnant. But to treat it as something unnatural, or as the original poll said, as "unreal terrifying body horror" is to see the capabilities of the female body as somehow Other and alien and twisted. That is misogyny. When women view our own bodies this way, it's internalized misogyny.
If you look at this and still continue with that liberal "sex work is just like any other work" thinking you're simply a fucking monster
You know what pisses me off? The constant sexualization of nuns. Women who decided to distance themselves from being sexual objects, yet people can't seem to respect them. Try searching the word "nun" on tumblr, it's disgusting. We live in a pornified reality.

Trans ideology be like “sex and gender are different” ok so why trans women want to join in female sports? You compete with your body not your pronouns
It's also not putting women down to say there is a biological difference.
I saw that recently, that by claiming trans women can't be in female sports, we are claiming women are inferior.
No! There is a difference in the sexes and that is okay. It's okay to recognize we are built to handle things differently. It's okay to recognize women are not as likely to hit certain physical milestones as a man. It would be sexist to turn around and argue that difference makes women inferior.
Women are great at a lot of wonderful things. Our immune system? Better on average. Memory processing? Also better. Ability to function better when sleep-deprived? You guessed it. Better.
I wish tumblr would give me the option to only let beloved mutuals interact with my posts because like sometimes I don't want to go so far as to block someone but I also do NOT want to hear their takes on things lol
