I've been thinking about how I noticed Snotlout seems to have a very particularly strong vitriol for Camicazi despite not knowing her that well and barely interacting with her and her being four years younger. Like he utterly detests her, it's very noticeable. He taunts Hiccup and Fishlegs by telling them how he's hoping they'll finding her corpse in the water, and in Betray he can't mention her without describing how awful she is (the "she's just a bog-burglar" was to try to push Hiccup and Fishlegs away, what I'm referring to is the "and even rescue that horrible little bog-burglar Camicazi" when he was trying to convince them to trust him). I was thinking there are several reasons: The first is obvious, although they don't interact with each other often, all their interactions are negative, and Camicazi is annoying in general. The first time they met (at least on page) was when Camicazi told FISHLEGS to push Snotlout into the ocean while everyone was cheering for Snotlout. Snotlout craves the attention and love he was given by the tribe when he was the only heir as a toddler (I think they seriously thought Snotlout would be the heir at the time, the phrase "they so wanted a child" makes me think Valhallarama and Stoick were having fertility issues so I think everyone treated Snotlout as heir), and he was enjoying being cheered for. Camicazi utterly ruined this moment for him, by getting Fishlegs of all people to push him. Additionally the dragons awaking at the beginning of Betray was fully Camicazi's fault for refusing to speak quietly, he was justified in being angry at her there. It's just that his anger becomes hypocritical when he hands her over to her enemies despite her helping to save him. The second reason is what Camicazi represents. Camicazi is the heir of another tribe and she absolutely ADORES Hiccup. Snotlout wants everyone to see how weak and ridiculous Hiccup is, and how Snotlout should obviously be the heir. The future Chieftan of a nearby highly renowned tribe thinking Hiccup is the coolest thing in the world and following him around everywhere like a love sick puppy-dog is like a death knell in Hiccup being further cemented as the Heir of the Hairy Hooligans (Thuggery's similar treatment of Hiccup being another similar death knell which I think made the Camicazi thing feel even WORSE, I bet Snotlout hated Thuggary tons too). Camicazi even treats Hiccup as her superior or liege in many ways (not as in she thinks he's better than her, she obviously thinks she's the best, but there is a pretty clear leader-follower relationship between them) which I always think would've had interesting implications for future politics lol (if like everything after book 5 didn't happen so Hiccup didn't end up as her legal liege). Camicazi also represents the CHANGE that Snotlout hates so much, and it is change brought about by Hiccup in addition. The Bog-burglars and Hooligans have been enemies for over a century, and the phrase "The only good bog-burglar/hooligan is a dead bog-burglar/hooligan" was a common saying and taught to their children. But Hiccup and Camicazi changed that in the blink of an eye and now the two tribes have this Gondor-Rohan like allyship/friendship. Snotlout gives this as his reason for hoping Camicazi would turn up dead in book 8, so this one is definitely canon.
I think the dislike goes both ways. They both have prejudice against each other. 'Girls are better than boys' and 'the only good bog burglar is a dead bogburglar'.
Yep It absolutely goes both ways. In book 11 Camicazi wanted to leave him to die. I think by that point they hated eachother equally. I just think earlier Camicazi didn’t seem to think much about or interact much with Snotlout at all on-page although she did dislike him (the shield thing), so Snotlout’s strong hatred of her stood out to me. For example when Snotlout in book 4 insulted Hiccup she didn’t bite back she just kind of was confused (she didn’t seem to think of Hiccup as someone who gets bullied I think, and I doubt she’d ever been bullied).
Just finished How to Steal a Dragon’s Sword; I’ve only got books ten, eleven, and twelve left to read now!! Oh I’m so excited, I’m loving the books so incredibly much
Ideal first time HTTYD reading order (it says at the beginning you can read the series in any order and I think this order is best!): How to Betray a Dragon's Hero How to Train your Dragon School Fight of the Flamestrike When the Windwalker Changed How to Sieze a Dragon's Jewel How to be a pirate How to Ride a Dragon's Storm How to Train your Hogfly Day of the Dreader A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons How to Fight a Dragon's Fury How to Twist a Dragon's Tale How to Twist a Dragons Tale againHow to Train your Dragon School Doom of the Darkwing How to Break a Dragon's Heart How to Speak Dragonese How to Train your Viking How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse Lastly, never EVER read How to Steal a Dragon's Sword or How to Train your Dragon. Train is bad and I don't concider Sword canon. (/j)

Series Summary:
Featuring a morally gray ace protagonist, All The Politics, and more worldbuilding than you can shake a suspiciously grinning fox at. Humanity is dying, hunted to extinction by creatures of legend. One boy was born to save them all. That boy just got knifed in the back. He looked a bit too much like Aaron, you see. Now it’s Aaron’s job to step up, lest his Death correct that little mix-up. But Aaron’s skills as a street rat run more towards stealing and stabbing than towards saving. And the more he learns of what brought dear dead Markus to that fatal alleyway, the more he has to wonder just what the world’s savior was really up to the night the wrong boy died.

Hiccup, Fishlegs, and Camicazi. This is my first time drawing them :3
gues who
This applyies to the whole gang I think

Grimbeard: If you found out you had one day left to live, what would you do with it?
Hiccup iii: SAY GOODBYE AND MEND ANY FRIENDSHIP IN NEED OF IT.
Hiccup i: Something illegal
Hiccup ii: I would message 10 people saying that if they didn’t forward the message to ten people i would die tomorrow.
If one of the headcanons I have for the Bog Burgler tribe is true, then Camicazi's casual misandry makes a lot of sense.
I personally think that the Bog Burglers get new members through children, yes, but mostly through women who have been thoroughly fucked over by the men in their lives, whether through violence or sheer incompetence, and are just done with them enough to join an all-woman tribe.
The men Camicazi would most often hear older women talking about wouldn't be the caring fathers, or the loving husbands, or brave and noble men, because the women with good men in their lives wouldn't have a reason to join the Bog Burglers. She would hear women gossip about how their fathers, brothers, and husbands were greedy, cowardly, stupid, controlling, and all-around kind of terrible people. Of course, she would grow up thinking that all men kind of suck because those are the only kinds of men she knows.

Rejoice, For the Herald Of Hope Flies Above Us
My thoughts and commentary on the How to Train Your Dragon books as/after I read each one:
Book Nine
Well the table of contents alone promises a wild and interesting time. “Oh for Thor’s Sake,” “The Wicked Witch of the Wilderwest,” “Still Going Wrong,” “The Boy Hunt,” and, of course, “How the Hook Survived the Flames.”
Aaaaaa the “don’t blame the story” plea omg
Oh boy. Oh this is already going so bad.
“The Prey Dive” oh dear. Oh this is bad
“I’ll take a little breather while the dragon pauses,” FUCK!!! THATS SUCH A GOOD CHAPTER CLIFFHANGER BUT FUCK!!!!
“Make red your claws with human blood… […] The rebellion is coming…” chills. That’s like such a haunting chant to hear
Oh of course a dragon that cute would never tell a lie! Absolutely never ever for sure
“They were scared.” 🥺
“considerably worse than a ghost.” Yeah I agree with you on that one
