I ADORE this series and this book was another uplifting story to read. Itâs taken me about 2-ish years to read because I thought this one was a tad slower than the first two. Thatâs the only reason I knocked off a star in the rating or else it wouldâve been five stars.
We get to meet so many fun new characters in this book, cross great swathes of land, and go up against brutal enemies. One of the more fun introductions was for a group of feral dragons speaking their own language and who are lead by a dragon named Arkady. They were so entertaining and came to be heroes in their own way. I canât wait to read book four- âEmpire of Ivoryâ.

From spectacular Chinese dragons with snakelike bodies to the fire-breathing beasts of Europe, prepare to meet dragons from all over the world and discover facts behind these fierce but magnificent creatures.
Iâve read a lot of nonfiction dragon reference books and I think this is one of my new favorites. What I often see is people focusing heavily on European dragons and maybe light dabbling of Chinese dragons, but they tend to leave out ALL the other cool creatures we consider dragons!
This book gave equal attention to all the continents, showing dragonish creatures, sharing brave stories, and dropping facts from many cultures and peoples. The art style by Pham Quang Phuc was spectacular and really made the dragons jump off the page. Iâd definitely recommend this if youâre curious about dragons around the whole world.
A LAMENT ON THE STATE OF DRAGON BOOKS
For a dragon-fanatic, such as myself, itâs always disappointing when you crack open a âworldlyâ tome to find all the dragons mentioned come from Europe, specifically Britain. They might mention the Longs of China in passing, or throw a consolation prize to the tale of St. George and the Dragon taking place in Libya. But no! This will not do! Where is the Gbahali of Liberia? Where is the tale of the mother dragon saving Vietnam from invaders? Donât even get me started on Degeis of Fiji, or Kukulkan of Mexico. Have you never stopped to consider the legend of Dragon Valley in Afghanistan? What about Alklha of Russia? If the book does not include a beautifully blue Persian dragon, I am quite seriously not interested. I have read many an academic or non-fictitious text on dragons, but I have yet to be impressed by this definition of the world.
