What the absolute fuck is this new tumblr update.
Doubtless this has been pointed out many times, but as I will note (on a reblog of my own post since I don't want to "post steal" from God knows who else), the whole premise of this stupid-ass update is that Users Want Individual Publicity. They must Maximize Their Engagement and Selfishly Get Their Own Numbers so they can Have The Most Visibility For Their Own Stuff. Every other social media website assumes that you are a selfish monster whose only purpose is to algorithm-max Visibility For Yourself, rather than sharing notes collectively among the community, and Tumblr was enjoyable for not doing that. Now, we all know how annoying it is when you get a dumbass on your post, or several dumbasses collectively arguing with each other and you have to see all their dumbass replies, but even that is still preferable to having no engagement with your own post. You can also just turn off notifications for a post with dumbasses in the replies, and live your life blissfully untroubled by it further.
Whoever is left running this godforsaken website clearly still thinks that It Must Be Made Into Twitter, regardless of the fact that The Website Formerly Known as Twitter is an absolute hellhole that now literally generates AI child sex abuse for Nazis, and still is failing to get the picture that Tumblr users do not want Visibility Engagement Maximization or whatever the fuck tech word slurry. Nobody uses their real names. Everyone absolutely hates when their posts go viral. Nobody wants to Get Their Precise Portion of Notes and nothing else. We do not want to Increase Our Profile Or Market Share. We want to be left the fuck alone to post our stupid memes and have our stupid little in-jokes and our stupid little gay fanfiction. Tumblr, as usual, has completely missed the boat.
If you want to tell them directly to roll back the update, here's the link again (click Contact Support in the upper right corner, then Feedback from the drop down). You can be polite and straightforward, just something like "Please put reblogs back the way they were, this new system is unnecessary and confusing." It never hurts to not be a dick. But you can and should make your feelings clear.
