Absolutely crazy to me that the pro AI people nearly always think creative stuff is a chore that a machine needs to do instead of something that is actually fun.

He was sitting across from her at the kitchen table, heâd lit candles and folded serviettes, and he was looking at her very intently, his own portion of the meal seemingly forgotten, and Taggie reminded herself he was here. He was the one whoâd shown up first, whoâd made sure he had too good a reason to stay for her to make him leave, and she would have been alone otherwise, ladling beans onto toast and feeling not only sorry for herself but dead bored, but heâd come and cajoled her into letting him stay and then had been such fun, making her laugh and smile, making her feel pretty and bright, not like a hot piece of ass or Declanâs pathetic forgotten daughter.
Heâd done something when Rupert showed up, something she couldnât quite name, that kept it from feeling awkward. Sheâd been able to enjoy the wriggling puppy and Basâs broad shoulders glimpsed from behind when he was dumping the pasta into a colander. Heâd made her want to talk and heâd been interested in everything she said. She knew heâd slept with a vast number of women, most of them gorgeous and confident with great hair and long legs, but she didnât feel uncomfortable. She hadnât until now.
âItâs too much basil,â she said.
âToo much? I donât think bringing you dinner and dessert and promising to do the washing up is too much for your 21st, Taggie. You deserve all of this, more, I should have brought champagne, a case of itââ
âNo,â Taggie said, feeling clumsy and embarrassed, but more embarrassed for him than for herself, which was a novel experience. The puppy, still nameless, was dozing in a crate sheâd draped with an old tablecloth and was making little snuffling noises in his sleep.
âNo?â
âThe chicken. Itâs got too much basil in it. The balance is off, with the pesto. Maybe if there were more pine nuts or weâd used dark meat instead of breast,â she explained, hoping he understood now.
âIâve mucked it up, yeah?â he said, leaning back in his chair, looking only mildly concerned that she couldnât stomach the dish, not sly and salacious because sheâd said breast.
âBasilâs a strong flavor, it can take over,â she said.
âAnd you donât love it,â he replied. He must have seen something in her face, the way she pursed her lips before she smiled.
âItâs not my favorite,â she admitted. âBut Iâm sure plenty of people would like this quite a lot.â
âHow would you fix it?â he asked. His curiosity was unexpected, charming her when she didnât really believe in charm, having seen what it did to Mummy and Daddy, how Rupert had made a bloody mess of everything with it, so convinced it was his ticket out of any muddle, a mixed-up series of words she knew sheâd gotten wrong but that Bas would be unlikely to point out or correct if sheâd spoken aloud.
âWith this much already in the sauce? Heavy cream, I think. That would be easiest,â she said.
âBut not best,â he said.Â
âIâd toast another batch of pine nuts, add some mascarpone,â she said.
âYouâre terribly clever, arenât you, Taggie,â Bas said.
âI donât think so, no,â she said.
âYou donât think so, but you are. I wonât say youâre adorable, though you are, because this isnât humility, false or otherwise,â Bas said.
âNo?â
âNo. Youâve listened to them all far too much, youâve believed they were right about things you knew were wrong,â Bas said.
âWho do you mean?â Taggie asked.
âEveryone,â Bas replied, reaching over to take her plate, to stack it on his. Dinner was over, it seemed.
âEveryone,â Taggie repeated. Some people might take it as a challenge, a dare. Her da did, he fancied being underestimated, shoved aside, for all the power it gave him when he proved them wrong. She felt glum and lonely and young, as if instead of turning twenty-one, sheâd turned the clock back to twelve, when sheâd come out in spots and shot up but out nowhere, when her best friend Colleen had dropped her and started going round with a boy who had feathered hair and a denim jacket.
âEveryone but me,â Bas said.

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?

When a black person states that something you did was racist, chill the fuck out. Its annoying dealing with you panicking trying to dissociate yourself from racism. If you're not black, black people already assume youve said nigga or its variant at least once in your life. If they're interacting with you and bringing something up, its because they want you to stop doing that so they can still interact with you(if ur already friends)
You WILL be racist. You WILL do racist things. You have ALREADY done both. Learn and move on. There's no ideological purity you can hold on to, i promise. Proving you can take the criticism without making it a big deal and practice what you preach is better than any clean slate.
Be the kind of person black people don't have to gamble on. Shut up and lock in
And truly to the white folks who think this itâs hard to walk the âwokeâ line:
In real life, truly it is not. Itâs so easy. The bar is so low. Practice some variants of these:
âOh shit youâre rightâ
âOh damn I didnât see it that way beforeâ
Youâll feel bad because it feels bad to realize you hurt someone else. But you canât make your feeling bad soo Big that their original hurt matters less. Thatâs an insecurity response â thatâs you looking for them to validate you. You donât need that! Youâre fine! (And realistically you may find that validation comes much more easily when youâre attentive and empathetic!!)
Even better: validate them!! âHey it takes a lot to speak up and call me out, I really appreciate that.â Because honestly they are doing you a favor, probably! Theyâre showing you the quicksand you stepped in and throwing you a rescue line.
If you do have an intense emotional reaction, step away and come back later. Itâs okay to react! Itâs rude to make your reaction their business.
Most Black folks irl are frankly just happy when white people verbally acknowledge the existence of racism. The bar is so low. The bar is ankle height. I also get a lot of mileage out of genuine compliments.
Missteps are not only okay, theyâre necessary. You have to do them in order to learn how to be a kind human. They donât make you bad!! And Tumblr with this shit is like playing a video game on extreme difficulty â irl itâs almost always on easy mode in comparison.

Global report provides an alternative to climate breakdown, political extremism and economic tensions
âA habitable, equal 21st century is materially possible,â the report concludes. âWhat stands in the way is not technical impossibility but political choice and the hard but crucial work of building a coalition behind it.â
80s misogyny saved the Star Wars galaxy because Darth Vader wasted all his time and effort trying to convince his starry-eyed gayboy empath son to become an evil space fascist when if anyone had any point asked his daughter âhey do you ever just want to KILL these peopleâ she wouldâve been shooing lightning out of her hands to prove a point in like 10 minutes
