leader cries out in pain and immediately shouts out to their team. "i'm fine!" they take a sharp breath and glare up at whumper
"why are you lying to them?" whumper whispers. they press the heel of their boot against leader's chest. "they've heard everything. it's no use."
sidekick, the stand-in leader of the team paces the cell and looks anxiously at the hallway where whumper dragged leader down. "if they're still talking, they're still alive."

my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government
this is getting really popular so i’d like to add the important caveat that your criticism of a work is no more unassailable than the work itself. just as one is entitled to be critical of something someone else is entitled to disagree with that criticism. i add this because some of you pretend to give a fuck about thoughtful analysis and then when someone points out flaws in your argument you declare that all criticisms are valid. this is untrue. the status of a hater is no more sacred than that of a liker. get off your high horse and engage in the thoughtful discussion you pretend to believe in or perish by my blade

This event is centred around OCs (original characters). While customisable video game protagonists (e.g. tav/durge (bg3), warden/hawke/inquisitor/rook (dragon age), the rogue trader (rogue trader), etc.) are welcomed, canon characters should be relegated to background characters in works made for this event, if included at all.
By choosing to take part in this event, you confirm that you are both of legal age and mature enough to take part in an event centred around dark and potentially triggering topics.
While no one is obligated to interact with topics they do not wish to, there will be zero tolerance on attempts at censorship, kinkshaming, harassment, or bullying of any kind. Anyone who partakes in this behaviour will be excluded from this and all future events.
Prompts may be interpreted however you wish! Feel free to take one, two, or even all three prompts for a given day, combine them, make separate works for each one, whatever calls to you; there's no "right way" to take part. Additionally, there is no limit as to how many works you can create for any given day. Want to write two different fics for the same characters for the same prompt? Go for it! Want to draw two different art works for two different characters for the same prompt? Hell yeah! Go nuts, show guts. Or, y'know, whatever.
Please tag your posts with #unwholesomeocweek so we can all peruse everyone's creations! While not necessary, feel free to @ this blog too, if you would like to. I'll be going through the tag and reblogging everyone's works here as much as I can during the week, but if you believe your post has been missed and you have followed all the guidelines set out here, please send an ask to this blog off anon in case I've missed it!
Additionally, if you are posting your work to AO3, add it to the collection! This will open the day before the event starts (31st May) and remain open for a month after the end of the event (7th July) to catch any late entries.
All works reblogged to this blog will be tagged for common triggers with the format "trigger tw" (e.g. rape tw, incest tw, etc). While not an obligation, participants are encouraged to include tags in the same format on their original post for ease of filtering. If there are any specific triggers anyone would like tagging, please send an ask to this blog and I will do my best to accommodate you. (Note: this can be on or off anon, at your preference.)
While including trigger tags is a courtesy, works that include neither tags nor content warnings in the body of the post will not be reblogged to this blog. (Note: where the content warning is the prompt, it is not necessary to include a warning in addition to the prompt (e.g., if the prompt is sexual assault, it is not necessary to include a warning for this in the body of the post so long as the prompt is included). If your post is a link to a fic hosted elsewhere, including a screenshot of e.g. AO3 tags is an acceptable alternative.)
Works made using generative ai are not welcome in this event.
Works set in the harry potter universe, or making use of its canon or lore, are not welcome in this event.
Original fiction writers, when you're thinking about a new story idea, in what order do you usually come up with the following things: plot, character, and themes?
Themes = the larger idea that your story is about. So, for example, if you decide first that you want to write a story about a death game, and then decide that the story will be a statement on capitalism, then come up with the main character, you'd choose option 2.
Plot first, then character, then theme
Plot first, then theme, then character
Plot first, then character: I don't think about themes

It varies too much to say

the issue with writing for yourself is that you will get sucked into rereading your own fic over and over and pretend it’s “editing,” but really you’re just reading because it’s exactly what you want to read. because you wrote it. for you.
damn i wish u guys could read this fic i haven't written and this fic i haven't finished writing and this fic i'm putting off outlining and this fic i outlined but haven't started and this fic i'll never write and this other fic i haven't written and this fic that exists only in vague impressions in my head that fall apart every time i try to commit them to the page and th
saw a post letting people know that your ao3 bookmarks are viewable on your account unless you make them private, which suggests that the median ao3 user does not use ao3 in what i will call 'the optimum fic-finding treadmill' where you find a fic author you like and look through their bookmarks to find more fics that are good and then look through that author's bookmarks for even more good fics. like a conga line of great but extremely specific tastes. or one of those chessboard rice doubling analogies and oh no that is a LOT of ao3 tabs.
#here's a couple hot new ones fresh off the dome: #genitals are called yr ''loins'' bc it was a mishearing of the cockney pronounciation of ''lines'' as in ancestry/breeding #atom is actually the acronym A.T.O.M. - All Things Of Matter #discord was originally dis-chord in the musical sense - a chord that is wrong or off in some way #boom. there ya go. three beautiful lies free to go out into the world #my life goal is to achieve something as powerfully garbage as Ship High In Transit. someday...... #misinformation

i see a lot of ex-villain whump where they get whumped by their new hero team as punishment, or their old villain team upon being captured, but something i would like to see more of would be whumperless ex-villain whump, or an ex-villain getting whumped by a third party. preferably having a wholesome found family dynamic with their new team but not feeling like they deserve their forgiveness. which could lead to the hidden injury trope if they're determined enough not to cause more trouble for their team
i'll try to put some in the queue but if anyone has any prompts feel free to send them in everyone!
ex-villain who gets their ass handed to them during a fight because they chose to refrain from using the full extent of their powers.
they could have easily won the fight, but they vowed to never use their evil powers again. and even though the rest of the team isn't there to witness it, ex-villain keeps their promise.
afterwards, the team is incredulous at the sight of ex-villain beaten and bloody. "what the hell happened? that should have been an easy fight for you" ex-villain just smiles and shakes their head
