Uhh update sooo I wrote a lil one shot about Gurjin drinking on the job, but it features my OC so if you don’t like OCs that’s cool pls scroll on by but I just wanted to post it here since I don’t have the confidence to post it anywhere else, please let me know what you think okay thanks bye (set just before Gurjin sees the Spitter, if there had been a large time gap!)
Gurjin took a seat on the cold stone floor of the dimly lit castle corridor, watching as Rian and Mira took off in the opposite direction in search of the Spitter. Gurjin rolled his eyes, knowing that they were most likely sneaking off to feel each other up. Taking out his hidden treats, he sang out before taking a sip from his small flask:
“A loyal Gelfling serves his Lords and always reaps his just rewards.”
He turned his head at the sound of footsteps approaching from around the corner and got ready to stand up and act like he was patrolling or making his way back to his post. Then, he locked eyes with a familiar face; Kovina, the blonde haired Vapran girl who worked alongside Rian, Mira and himself. Gurjin sat back down upon her arrival, knowing that she wouldn’t tell anyone where he was or what he was up to.
“I thought I heard you down here,” She said, taking a seat on the floor next to him.
“Rian and Mira said they saw a Spitter, so they’ve disappeared to look for it.” Gurjin said, amusement clear in his voice. Kovina brushed a loose strand of platinum hair behind her ear, looking at him with a furrowed brow.
“So, you’re keeping guard as they swap saliva down the corridor?” She asked cheekily, a smirk now spread across her face. Gurjin laughed and shrugged.
“What else am I going to do? He’s my best friend, and Mira is too. I’d rather be sitting here than standing at my post with Tolyn.” Gurjin said dryly, taking another sip of his drink. Kovina rolled her eyes at the mention of the abhorred guard.
Making herself comfortable, she crossed her legs and pulled a small pouch from her pocket. Kovina opened the pouch, taking a mini-katnie and then offered the pouch to Gurjin, gesturing for him to take one.
“Sweet mini-katnies,” she said, bouncing the pouch in front of him, “I made them fresh.”
Gurjin took one and thanked her, nibbling on it as they sat in comfortable silence for a few moments. Then, once he finished his treat, he offered a drink to Kovina who gratefully accepted his offer, taking a small sip before handing the flask back to him. Gurjin started to laugh as she registered the sharp, bitter taste of the ale in his flask.
“Gurjin!” Kovina nearly shrieked, eyes wide and a smile plastered onto her face. Gurjin laughed even harder at his friend’s shocked reaction, taking another treat from the pouch she’d placed on the floor in front of them.
“I can’t believe you’re drinking on the job!” Kovina said in between laughs, taking another mini-katnie for herself and then handing the pouch to Gurjin.
“Don’t tell anyone!” He retorted, trying to sound as serious as he could whilst stifling laughter. Kovina shook her head, still smiling as she stood up from her spot on the floor. She looked down at him for a second before brushing herself off of any dust.
“I’d better get going. I’m already on a warning, remember?” Kovina said, her voice dripping with distaste. Gurjin smirked at her, then rolled his eyes.
“I suppose you had. Try not to sleep in too late tomorrow, Kove.” He replied and she rolled her eyes at him in return.
“Enjoy those mini-katnies, I practically slaved over them!” She spoke loudly, making a dramatic gesture as she walked away from him and began making her way back down the corridor.
“Thank you! Don’t tell Tolyn where I am, or I’ll have to push you into the lake later!” Gurjin called out after her, grinning as she walked away.
“I’d never willingly talk to Tolyn, you know that!” She laughed in response, before finally turning away and disappearing around the corner. He could have sworn he saw her wink at him before she disappeared...
