Flingit Puppet - Jim Henson Company 70th Anniversary Auction on Julien's Auctions, sold for $6,400 - Lot 223

"A woodland creature, known as a "Flingit," as seen in the eighth episode of the prequel series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Netflix, 2019), entitled, "Prophets Don't Know Everything." During the pre-production of the series, puppet sculptors and fabricators took extra and leftover parts and components of other puppets to create dozens of background creatures to populate the vibrant world of Thra. 

This Flingit puppet is comprised of a foam latex body with resin eyes and faux-fur and feather detailing. Attached to the puppet is a rubber pump to control its body expansion.

According to The Dark Crystal Bestiary: The Definitive Guide to the Creatures of Thra (Insight Editions, 2020), Flingits are native to the Swamp of Sog where they floated on the marshes catching insects to eat with their long, sticky tongues. Drenchens believed Flingits would cause warts, but Sifans kept Flingits nearby because of the medicinal properties found in their mucus.

This puppet comes mounted on a stand custom-built by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, featuring an identifying emblem.

Fungle Puppet - Jim Henson Company 70th Anniversary Auction on Julien's Auctions, sold for $5,120 - Lot 222

"A woodland creature, known as a "Fungle," from the prequel series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Netflix, 2019). During the pre-production of the series, puppet sculptors and fabricators took extra and leftover parts and components of other puppets to create dozens of background creatures to populate the vibrant world of Thra. This puppet was built by designer Wendy Froud.

This Fungle puppet is comprised of a hand-painted latex body (that most likely was originally a tail of another puppet), with detailing composed of fur and plastic aquarium dressing. It includes two black ball-headed pins as eyes.

According to The Dark Crystal Bestiary: The Definitive Guide to the Creatures of Thra (Insight Editions, 2020), Fungles are native creatures to the Spriton Plains where they would blend in with the crops of local farmers, and have built-in protection from predators due to their unpleasant smell and taste.
