[ id: a set of four digital, stylized paintings, the first three with white backgrounds and the last one with a black background. Individual descriptions below:
1) A thin person with dark skin and black, coily hair wearing a yellow top stands in front of the aromantic flag with closed eyes, a green heart on their chest. Text around them reads: Black aros matter. ("Aros" is in green, the rest is in black)
The aromantic flag has five horizontal stripes, in green, light green, white, gray and black.
2) A thin person with medium-dark skin, no hair, a beard and brown eyes wearing a purple flannel shirt stands in front of the asexual flag smiling, with a dark purple heart on their chest. Text around them reads: Black aces matter. ("Aces" is in purple, the rest is in black)
The asexual flag has four horizontal stripes, in black, gray, white and purple.
3) A thin person with dark skin, long, colorful locs and brown eyes wearing glasses, a yellow hat, a green shirt, and black suspenders, smiling in front of a rainbow infinity symbol. Text around them reads: Black neurodiversity matters. ("Neurodiversity" is in rainbow colors, the rest is in black)
4) A black fist stands in front of a green and turquoise splash of paint, with text around it reading: All black lives matter. ("All" is underlined and hot pink, the rest is in white)

Hello my fellow aromantic and arospec Natives, I love you (platonically) 💚💚💚
You are a not a shame to your culture or your tribe if you don't want to get married or have children. You are not betraying or disappointing your ancestors by not passing on your culture to your own children. You don't have to force yourself into a relationship out of duty, you can have a meaningful and important connection to your culture and even share and pass it on in other ways (like as a teacher) without sacrificing your own happiness and well-being.
“there are always more fish in the sea!” babe no offense but i just really sincerely do not want to go fishing
from some of the comments i am seeing about having a hard time with fishing or wanting to fish in a specific way or looking for a white whale or wanting to skip the fishing and go straight to having a fish i feel i need to clarify the metaphor. this is not about the fishing itself to me as much as the fish. there’s this whole societal thing that pushes people to feel like they should be eating fish all the time and while fish are awesome for some people!! and while some people Want fish but don’t like the pressure about it!! i do not like fish i do not want fish and in fact i often feel as if i may exhibit an allergic reaction to seafood
the first thing you have to remember is that being aromantic is fucking awesome and opens your world to so many new experiences without the fear of romance the second thing you have to remember is that alloro society will do everything in its power not to let you enjoy it

"can i identify as aro even if-" you can do whatever you want forever👍
There’s also a thing that people who think they’re being accepting do where they go “Not wanting romance is SO SAD AND LONELY! Not wanting to read romance novels is SEXIST! Not wanting a partner makes you a FREAK! Not having sex with your partner is BAD and ABUSIVE! Not feeling sexual attraction to your partner means there is SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU!… unless you’re aromantic or asexual, of course! Then you get a pass.” The only acceptable reason to deviate from the amatonormative and sexnormative societal norm is to claim an identity label that exempts you. The actual thing you’re doing is still bad… but don’t worry it’s OK for you to do it! It feels like, we haven’t actually challenged any norms at all, you just get a pass on them because you can’t help it, poor thing. If you have the capacity to feel these, you have the obligation to; you are only exempt if you claim an identity that says that you are unable to. It implies that we would if we could, but we can’t, and it’s merely unfair to punish us for our shortcomings. Romance and sex are still social requirements, that hasn’t changed, we just are allowed a pass on it because we are unable to meet them. (And we’re still expected to reassure everyone that of course we recognize that their romance and sex is far more important than anything we will ever be able to have!)
I don’t want aros and aces to get special exemption from the requirement to have romance and sex and romantic attraction and sexual attraction; I want that to not be a requirement for anyone.
Mabel and Ford with aro flags?
Here you go! I'm so sorry this is late, hope you like it 💚
sometimes finding aromanticism in media isn’t literally about aromanticism… sometimes it’s about the deconstruction of love as a concept and the subversion of its perception as inherently humanising. it’s about the decentering of romance as a driving force in the narrative. and also sometimes it’s about love being central to the narrative but in a way that defies all traditional categorisations of romantic / platonic / anything else. it is the secret third thing yet so much more and less at once. the point is aromanticism is everywhere for those with eyes to see
im just not attracted to anyone or anything ever. until i am.

these birds are proud to be aro and i hope you can be too
[ID: a digital painting of two bird busts, holding a small aro flag in their grey beaks between them. The bird on the left’s head is facing to the side and is mostly black with a white cheek and yellow neck. The right bird is facing more to the front, with black streaks around the eyes and framing the head, blue on the top and back, and face mostly white. Both look soft and feathery and the flag has a silky texture. End ID.]

It is incredibly frustrating to be aromantic and for people to treat you like you’re heartless, or could never care about anyone at all. We are also put in the unfair and uncomfortable position of justifying our lack of romantic love and explaining the “validity” of other relationship types. It can feel like you’re still stuck within the system, because either way society is telling you that you yourself are not enough, and that you need to be partnered in some way. some people never want a partner, and that’s incredibly fucking valid and should be respected. In trying to navigate aromantic identity in relationships, I also have to deal with the frustration of being a gender nonconforming Black woman as well. I am hypersexualized, told i’m ugly, expected to perform emotional labor for free, subject to hella micro- and macroagressions, told that i’m scary, and always trying to make myself palatable for someone else. this is exhausting. and so it is fun to dream and think about love and relationships, and i have some very important and meaningful relationships with folx, but because of my undesirability, because of my Blackness and Black womanhood, and because of my aromantic identity, I feel very much cut off from having the types of relationships that I would like to have. It can be difficult and frustrating and isolating to see friends, family, strangers, move in and out of casual, serious, or no labels types of relationships knowing that if they one day decide to have a romantic partner, they will be supported in that choice. Perhaps not by all of society, perhaps not everywhere, but there are models for what their relationship could look like. Society has given them options on how to find partners–as a Black Aromantic, I have been given nothing.

Shout out to aroallo transfems btw. I never see anyone talk about y'all and how the usual hatred towards aroallos is multiplied by a million for you.
To all aroallo transfems:
You are not dangerous or perverted for desiring sex without romance.
You are not a bad person for desiring sex without romance.
You are allowed to want sex without romance.
There is nothing "wrong" with you.
You are not "broken" or "dirty" for your romantic and sexual identities.
I care about you and I want you here. I want you in my community. I want to make this place comfortable for you. I want you to be happy. I will do everything I can to make sure the spaces I share with you are welcoming.
