Oh you're aroace? You should watch Blimpus and Jumbie it has an aroace character! Their name is Splonky and they're introduced in season 3 they're in six episodes, have a total 25 minutes of screentime and an average of three lines per episode. They're absolutely groundbreaking aroace representation, the show's creator confirmed it on twitter when he posted a doodle of Splonky holding an asexual flag. Oh that's not your cup of tea? Here's a list of aroace books they're all about high schoolers discovering that they're aroace after trying to find a significant other and it ends with the message that you can just make up for being a terminal virgin by third wheeling the gay couple you're friends with
You go into the splonky blimpus and jumbie tag and there's like a handful of cute fanart and appreciation for Splonky, and then every other post is people drawing Splonky making out with a variety of other characters from the show and the rest is people writing mini-essays yelling at people who ship Splonky with anyone as if that killed their grandma
What is Blimpus and Jumbie even about? Who the fuck cares? There's an aroace character who was introduced in season 3, is in six episodes, has a total 25 minutes of screen time and an average of three lines per episode, the creator confirmed it on twitter when he posted a doodle of them holding an asexual flag! You're aroace, you'll love Blimpus and Jumbie, it has aroace representation! Btw the target demographic for Blimpus and Jumbie is 10-14 year olds.
the aromanticism. it festers.
it really is fine, but i'll take a lollipop anyway // april 25 2024
Why do so many positivity posts for sex-repulsed ace people have to start by going "there's just too much positivity for the freaky horny pervert asexuals" can you just make the positivity post without complaining about other posts? Please.
Nobody is trying to push you out of the community by welcoming the hornier side of the ace spectrum. You're still the "default". The average person thinks asexuality is sex-repulsion. You can survive a few "shoutout to freaky asexuals" posts.

this is a bit of a personal and rambly post, so i apologise in advance - i’ve been thinking about this concept of aspecs being fundamentally unable to access certain emotions and experiences due to our lack of attraction (such as lust, yearning, romantic love, etc.) for a bit now and the conclusion i think i have come to on that is while i do believe that there are some intrinsic differences in aspec vs allo experience, especially because relationships / emotions / attraction / the meanings we attach to those things are as much a social construction as anything innately felt, the vast majority of human emotion & experience is not in any real way inaccessible to a person because of their orientation. i just do not think that the essence of any one emotion is exclusive to one type of experience, even if that is the context where it most commonly occurs. i cut off a friendship a little while back (for multiple reasons, but certainly in part) because they insisted i was incapable of understanding or relating to the concept of yearning on the basis of my aromanticism; they insisted because i could not experience romantic attraction, describing my experience as such was both fundamentally inaccurate and also offensive (in comparison to their own romantic troubles). i don’t disagree that there are emotions i will never understand; but i genuinely do think, as someone who has experienced in a very serious way, platonic “crushes” before, that most of the emotions typically considered to be exclusively reserved for romance can and do appear in other non-romantic contexts. even if it is uncommon! i do not think you need to experience sexual or romantic attraction to have access to many of the feelings that exist in the world. and i think you might be surprised by the way emotions and feelings can manifest themselves.
gonna be really honest i do think that if you’re not aromantic you’re missing out 🖤
this post obviously touches on the fact that the human experience is infinitely variable and there are fantastic aspects of every way of life that are often unique to that experience. and also i think aromanticism is cool as fuck and everyone Should have fomo about it 🙂↕️
I mean yeah I’m definitely missing out an aspects unique to that experience, but I have no feelings of fomo about it. I don’t think, at the end of the day, I want to have lived a life without some kind of romance. It’s something I’ll never really understand, but I guess that comes with the territory of being an allosexual. Like a cis person can never really understand what it’s like to be trans
alloro people will see someone post about a positive experience being aro and immediately go “i would Never want to live like you” as if that’s a normal fucking thing to say to somebody. anyway i love living a life without any kind of romance. and for the record i think cis people are missing out incredibly on being trans as well
every time someone treats Feeling Love™ as Political Praxis i want to beam this whole Moses Sumney quote into their head
under my tyrannical rule all characters will be on the aroace spectrum
dude i don't normally like to dig at peoples fun i generally think people having fun is good but it is slightly disheartening when there's a really really good story about a strong platonic relationship and then the only thing the fans can do is ship the characters or worse make a crack ship with an unrelated character from another media because it's like they can't STAND a lack of romance in media like they absolutely must try to insert romance where it is absolutely not needed or relevant and honestly sours the story/media a lot more for me or they'll Die because they can't just be happy with a really good platonic relationship. it makes me very sad as a demiromantic girlie.

people will see a structural problem and go "is anybody going to attribute to this a surface-level issue that is a symptom and not the cause" without waiting for an answer
you people can't do anything without romance
you people are so fucking boring
Referring to someone as your “partner” sounds as if you are deliberately obscuring their gender and may subtly out you. “My ex”, however, is entirely unobtrusively gender-neutral. #breakupallrelationships
getting characters into world-endingly intense codependent queerplatonic relationships is literally what life is all about. it is literally what we were put here on this earth to do
like it's genuinely absurd how every post by an aro person going "Hey, it's kind of fucked up that marriage is the only way to access certain rights and privileges" gets people coming out of the woodwork to say "You idiot! Don't you know that marriage is important?! It's the only way to access certain rights and privileges!"
like . . . yeah. they do know that. that is in fact the problem.

my futile wish is for people to understand that "sex scenes in movies/TV don't have to serve the plot and can genuinely just be for pleasure" and "sex-repulsed people are allowed to complain about how rare it is for media made for adults like them to be something they can enjoy completely" are both true statements. unfortunately society hates both sex and people who don't like sex, so everyone gets far too defensive about any sex or lack thereof in fiction to actually have this conversation
fake "secret third thing" fans when a queerplatonic relationship they can't portray as romance lite walks in
