What’s happening

- 182.41 hectares of our ancestral land in Wairarapa has come up for sale.

- This whenua backs onto our maunga Tararua, our awa, Waiohine and is near our whānau urupā, Te Uru o Tāneroa.

- The tender price is between $1.2-1.5 million.

- Our whānau are trying to raise money to meet the tender price.

- Our iwi has not settled, so we have no collective financial base.

- Our whānau want to buy back our whenua and establish papakāinga and sustainable business to bring our people home to Wairarapa.

If the tender is unsuccessful they will keep all donations for the next bit of land that comes up

it is so disappointing that this is the only option to reclaim illegally stolen land for the iwi, but the government wont work towards settlement with many iwi so we have no other choice

She groomed a group of minors on DeviantArt (me included) and had people calling her “daddy,” and that only stopped because she got in a fight with one of the kids who happened to have a heart condition and had to go to the hospital because of the stress, and then Stephanie took credit for sending Michael’s spirit to pull the girl’s soul out of the afterlife, and when you lowkey kill a disabled teenager from another country and take credit for saving their life other people start to notice and so she got doxxed and now her parents (who she still lives with in her 30s) won’t let her use DeviantArt ever again.

watsonian answer: lake superior is much colder and more volatile, lake huron is also cold as hell, lake erie is badly contaminated by radioactive fallout from detroit, and lake ontario is too small. lake michigan is a good combination of big, temperate, and fairly clean. admiral clearwater considered it the best option for a fleet that needed to live on the water year-round.

A tame example? Two questions into a phone interview, the guy on the other end of the line asked: “How old are you?” I said “Excuse me?” - giving him a chance to rethink that. He didn’t. “How old are you?” “Sir, you are not allowed to ask me that question.” “Well, I want to know. I’m asking.” “And you’re legally not allowed to ask me that. I’m not required to tell you my age.” At that point, I guess he managed to remember an old HR bulletin or something (I hope to god he wasn’t actually HR himself), and he said, “Well, I need to know if you’re over the age of 18.” (Which is what he should have asked in the first place… or not, since that was in the application that he could have read.) “Yes. I’m over the age of 18.”  And we moved on. Two questions later, he tried another illegal question. I called him on it again and ended the interview, citing that a workplace with such a clear disregard for the law, especially upon first contact with a potential employee, was not going to be a good fit. (They offered me the job anyway, lol. I didn’t send a thank-you or a response.)

At a different interview, the majority of questions were “fishing” questions - just looking for that info they’re not actually allowed to ask. (This person was also either not really HR or an HR person who was exceptionally bad at their job.)
