What is a Big Bang?
It’s a collaborative event that takes place over several months, where authors write a fic, and artists and musicians are paired with authors to create art based on those fics. Everything is posted during the last week, creating the big bang of content for which the event is named.
Authors have been toiling away since March, and it's time for artists and musicians to join us!
What do artists and musicians need to know?
You can only sign up as either an artist or a musician, not both
All are welcome regardless of skill level.
All works must follow the art and music guidelines in our info doc.
AI generated content is not allowed.
Joining the Discord server is mandatory.
Read the Rules, Guidelines, and Frequently Asked Questions for more information. If you have any questions not answered there or in the "answers" tag on the blog, send an ask!
acquired disability: adjustment period | learning from others' experience
in the original timeline ive got for the story, by the time shinichi gets his body back, kaito has been using a wheelchair for like 2~ years and he ends up being a lot of help emotionally, even if their issues are different. walking is hard.
slightly less angsty(?) doodle below:
also kaito is in a dress because its too long since ive drawn him in a dress
Love that while online fandom in general is having a weird meltdown about the morality of enjoying anything darker than sanitized fluff in fiction, the Danny Phantom fandom is still sitting in the corner 16 years after the show ended with a blankie and cocoa and their 10,000th deep-fanon supertorture cannibalism vivisection psychological horror fic
Actually, I think it's important to know the Danny Phantom fandom did have a problem with what we would now call 'Antis', in 2007-2009. They were led by the owner and admin of a major fan forum, and her most frequent targets were anyone who shipped queer pairings. (This was primarily m/m fics, the trans!headcanons had yet to be a major thing and f/f and polyship fics were almost nonexistant.) She was at least casually supported in this cause by Butch Hartman, as she was also the admin for his official forums, and actively thought she was doing this to his wishes. (Likelyhood: 90%, BH is an ass. But I never saw proof he knew the extent she took it to.
The Phandom has survived in spite of all this, and Butch Hartman, and it's actively a part of why it still embraces all the 'darker' sides, because we learned.
Everyone who supported her left, after one too many arguments over it all.
Every time I see an anti-shipper, I raise my eyebrows. Because it didn't, with this woman, start with queer pairings - for her it started with adult/child pairings, and others. But it very quickly became -No, we can't let the kids ship Dash/Danny! We can't let them even *contemplate* Paulina/Sam! No, Danielle isn't trans, why would you think that?? We have to protect the kids, or else they'll think being queer is okay!
Modern Phandom will embrace your right to write anything you throw at them, because they've already seen where it ends - and they're here in spite of that.
For the record, my commentary above is the reason why that if you are a person who starts talking about 'problematic ships' and you're in my fandom spaces, I'm blocking you.
Especially if you find the 'ships' problematic but are A-okay with all levels of gore and violence towards the very same characters. Sure, Jan.
This started off as tags but, you know what? It's important to the Phandom as a whole because this is a problem with Phandom that we should look at critically.
(Under the cut for length)
First off, the above poster is absolutely right. From what I have seen in my deep dives of Phandom history, this is how the tru phan/anti phan war started.
This is why I am so sus of anyone who says "Oh I love my dissection but people who ship X are real freaks. News flash, we are all freaks! our favorite tag is dissection! I recently saw someone call Danielle x Valerie "pedophile adjacent" and my brother in christ, I was horrified. A two year age gap was being called that when five years previous, our biggest issue with the ship was what the hell to call it.
Don't do butch hartman's job for him. Full stop. As a phandom we are insulated against a lot of the newer waves of nonsense because we are so damn old. BUT as a phandom we should also stay alert for the nonsense coming in and practice good fandom practices such as identifying squicks and avoiding them. As well as YKINMKATO (kinktomato) also known as your kink is not my kink and that's okay
You don't like a ship? Awesome, blacklist it, don't make it a moral crusade. Yes this applies to all ships. (And I'm going to go there) EVEN ships like pomp pep. Because that's the one area I see consistently people allowing for just the most lukewarm takes. Not to mention I've seen SEVERAL people chased out of the phandom not even for drawing pomp pep but people drawing badger cereal (platonic) and people interpret as pomp pep and then send hate mail to the creators over.
This attitude sucks, and it has chased some amazing people out of our phandom.
And revolutionary thought, even if someone is engaging in a ship like pomp pep, it's okay. You don't have to like it, or even see it! Just move on and don't bully people over it.
Because consistently. Every year while doing the truce, I always get a few people who like ships that the Phandom has decided are problematic, and every year, I have had to do extensive deep dives into the blogs they get paired with to make sure they won't get attacked for their requests.

mmmy entire weekend got fucked over so the time i was GONNA spend cleaning up some entries for the disabled whump/hurt/comfort thing just. fell to the wayside. gonna attempt to do some stuff tomorrow while i unwind cause i really wanna post more
as a bitch with very limited spoons i really shouldve tried to finish stuff BEFORE the month started huh lmao
Something I have been thinking about lately is. So I like whump. I am one of many people who enjoys reading about bad things happening to my favorite fictional characters, as the long and storied history of fandom will attest. We love it when people get hurt.
But one thing I also love, that I feel like I don't see very often in whump fic, is people writing about the recovery process, the unglamorous, difficult, after-the-fact details of having sustained serious injuries and living to tell the tale. Sometimes there will be a brief scene at the end of the fic where we are assured that, yes, the character made it to the hospital and survived, and is now surrounded by concerned friends-- particularly when the story veers more into hurt/comfort territory--but that's not really what I'm talking about. What I want is stories where the treatment and recovery are front and center, the medical details are realistic and the injuries are treated with the appropriate gravity, where the process is long and hard and has pitfalls and obstacles and above all takes time.
I think a large part of my desire for fics where the recovery is more centered than the actual moment of "hurt" stems from being aromantic and asexual and preferring gen stories, but still craving moments of intimacy in fiction and thus looking for it in less conventional places. Caretaking--or being taken care of--can be great sources of intimacy in stories where sex is off the table, for one reason or another. Needless to say, it's been an obvious lacuna. People do still write it, but not as often as I'd like to see, and that's always struck me as strange.
On the other hand, my wife has never been as into whump as me. She never hated it, but didn't seek it out or write it very often and had to be in the right mood for it (and to some degree still does). But lately she's been getting much more into exploring it in her writing because it offers her an opportunity to write characters experiencing similar things to her as she's dealt with the challenges of becoming disabled and largely housebound and reliant on me for certain caretaking tasks. And as a result we've sort of gravitated towards some similar kinds of stories, where recovery and caretaking are just as if not more important than fucking that character up in the first place.
Anyway. It's lead me to think more actively about that gap I've noticed as a life-long whump reader, where the recovery doesn't really matter and the stories are mostly just about the moment of "hurt" and maybe a dramatic rescue at the end. And I won't pretend it's all ableism, but I really do think that some of the reason fandom is allergic to writing true, messy, real caretaking and recovery is rooted in liking the aesthetics of disability (the angst! the drama!) without really caring much about the reality of it. It's the same reason action heroes get knocked unconscious all the time without concussions, why sci-fi and fantasy prosthetics so often seamlessly replace lost limbs, and why everyone in fiction eventually recovers from injuries and illness (except for when they die). There's no room for the unglamorous in-between, where someone ends up permanently affected by what happened to them and where "hurt" has life-long consequences.
I guess that's all to say--I wish fandom were as enthusiastic about the disability narrative potential in whump. Even in instances where people do make incredible recoveries from horrible injuries (which I've seen firsthand with friends!), a brush with serious injury is at the very least a brush with short-term disability, and more likely than not will have effects for the rest of someone's life. That can be interesting, and even intimate if you want it to be, too.
So yes, please do fuck that character up--it's a cornerstone of fandom for a reason. But consider, maybe, telling the sort of story where what happens afterwards matters, too.
#as the wife in question: EXTREMELY REAL!!! #there are just so many interesting angles with long-term recovery and disability narratives #the intimacy and the vulnerability #the power dynamics—good or bad #needing to be cared for is hugely vulnerable and many people struggle intensely with that #that's a really rich vein to explore! #there's the question of physical caretaking—how long does the character need to stay in the hospital? do they have the resources for that? #is it even a setting/location that HAS hospitals? #who looks after them once they've been discharged? how does this change their dynamic? do they welcome the help or are they afraid of it? #who supports them financially while they recover? who brings them food? who makes sure their pets get taken care of? #and how do they feel about losing functionality; even if it's temporary but especially if it's permanent? #do they still feel like themselves? do they wonder if surviving was worth it? do they get angry about things they can no longer do? #what does their disability grief look like? what does their loved ones' secondhand disability grief look like? #there is so much you can do with these stories! (via @scribefindegil)
Like they tried to change Reblogs and people rightfully got up in arms, this is a LOT worse. In order to have access to any sort of thing dubbed mature, and We haveALL seen what they think is mature, Everything from a black and white photo of a black woman's arm, to posts about IUD recalls, to a nude painted by a 17th century artist, to anything involving the word Trans; you have to send your personal information to a third party site that WILL get hacked, and you will be doxxed. And they can say "Oh shit, well it wasn't us who sent your name address and gender identity to Moldovan teenagers, here's a couple extra minutes in the ball pit.
That's bad enough!!!!!!!! But the entire idea of needing permission from state authorities to access anything labeled mature by our friendly AI overlords is some fucking Boll shit. Die Gedenken Sind Frie baby. This is all a reaction to people getting uppity about their lowly lowly rights and is being propped up by the same bad actors tht have made life unlivable. Fuck that shit.
"Well it's only being rolled out in Brazil and UK" Yeah, to start. "Well they're being forced to do this by laws." YOu know it's always really funny when these tech giants (Or whatever you call owning tumblr dot com) get really antsy about laws considering they pick and choose which ones they abide by.
This is a breaking point and it's going to be very interesting to see how we proceed from here.
i think people are sleeping on avid saying "im sick" when describing his never-closing wound and all the things that implies wrt it being an allegory for chronic illness, especially with all his desperate attempts to cure himself. but what else is new this is my bread and butter
"Dude, what gives?" Eric slams shoulder first into the locker next to his and he flinches.
"Jesus Christ," he mutters, rubbing a hand down his arm to soothe away the cold sweat trying to prickle up from his skin.
"You said you were gonna get on last night and then totally ditched!"
He swings his locker door closed, latching it softly. "Sorry. I fell asleep." At least he did around 4 AM.

Hello again. Just send a message to the blog for Function.Hearthbeat : Sync but wanted to send one here as well cause I absolutely love your art!
Little Rex is such a cutie and I'm a little sad to see his messy mop of hair go. The comic about the fonts, too adorable.
Also the way you draw Noah?! Damnnn.. just waiting here until Rex also realises that his best friend is pretty hot.
ISNT LITTLE REX JUST ADORABLE YEAH. im also more of a fan of the messy hair, partly because i dont like drawing it slicked back, but hey he does still make it work at least
i do think its a little funny when people find my version of noah attractive because im just drawing him as the most generic white boy i can think of
i know im a lesbian but i do have a theoretical taste in men and noah is like the exact opposite of it lmao. he would have to be way fatter/more muscular or at least have some facial hair to make up for being skinny. basically i enjoy bears. rex way more fits the bill for me there--and i did on purpose redesign *rex* to be crazy attractive. he deserves to be SO pretty
actually i should post some of my art of older rex because i do think he can and would grow a crazy good beard. i would also draw him with body hair (god i love hairy arms) except that his synthetic skin cant grow hair sadly. but hey the circuits are cool at least
These are the prompts for the 2026 Disabled Whump & Hurt/Comfort writing challenge, a 30-day challenge running from May 1-May 31, 2026 (works may be written in advance but should only be posted on/after May 1). The FAQ Page is here and the AO3 parent collection is here (check it for this year's subcollection).
Below the read more are the content and posting rules for this challenge. The prompts are divided by themes, but can be mixed up or taken out of order or only a few at a time. See rules for more information.
Remember to tag your works #disabledwhc2026 !
PROMPT LIST

1. Hurt: Targeted vulnerability | Stigma and discrimination | New or worsened symptoms
2. Comfort: Not backing down | Confidence | Friendship between disabled people
The Long Haul
3. Hurt: White-knuckling | Fatigue | “Not this again”
30. Comfort: Unconditional love* | Trustworthy | Offering without pressure
31. Free day
*Any kind; platonic, romantic, spiritual, sexual.. have at it.
Rules below the cut:
Rules:
This event will be centered on characters with disabilities and chronic conditions, visible (ex, paraplegia; limb differences) and invisible (ex, migraines; CFS) mental and intellectual (ex, Down Syndrome, schizophrenia). Stories about characters from adjacent communities where not everyone in them identifies as disabled, such as characters who are Deaf/HOH or autistic, are welcome too. The bottom line is that the character(s) should have a condition which is impairing for them. For writing to qualify, please have one or more disabled/chronically ill characters as the focus of your story, rather than a side character/cameo in a story about nondisabled characters. Prompts are meant to facilitate stories about disability and disabled characters in the genres of hurt/comfort and whump (also known as hurt-no-comfort).
"Disability" can have a broad definition, and many conditions can be disabling. The moderator will not be filtering or rejecting submissions based on what medical conditions "count"; the only parameter is that the central character lives with a chronic condition of some type which is disabling for them in some way. Disabilities which come about in a fantasy or sci-fi setting are welcome as long as they are portrayed as being disabling in some way which is analogous (eg, a permanent problem caused by magic, or vampirism as a fantasy-disability). In fanfic it does not have to be canonical - headcanons and AUs are fine.
Please do not TAG your posts/links with the names of disabilities you are writing about (eg tagging a story about an epileptic character with “#epilepsy”,) or with “#disability” or “#chronic illness”, as those tags are used by disabled folks to talk about our RL disabilities and in the past there have been issues with writers inadvertently clogging those tags with fiction/writing advice.
Please DO tag your posts and links #disabledwhc2026 and, in a second tag, the day (eg, #day 1: established disability) so the mod can find and reblog them to the blog!
Original work and fanfic are both welcome; anything goes in terms of settings and genres (fantasy, sci-fi) as long as it’s h/c or whump.
You do not have to write for every prompt (that’s why there’s a mix of hurt and comfort!) or every day to be featured. If you don’t have time for 30 days, do as many as you feel like. If you only write either H/C or Whump, you can do a 15-day challenge, reinterpret the hurt prompts to include comfort, and/or find a whumpy spin on the comfort prompts.
If you write prompts out of order please still tag which day you are writing for and the title of that prompt set. So if you decide to post the prompt “frustrated ambition” from the set “Loss”, which is day 21, on May 3, please still tag your May 3 post “day 21: loss”.
There are no restrictions on what content can be posted, but please use content notes for the following topics: "Rape/Noncon" "Underage Sex" "Graphic Depictions of Violence" (ie gore), and "Major Character Death" before the start of your piece. You can also use the warning "Creator Chose Not to Use Content Warnings" if you do not want to spoil fic. Please use a "read more" for these pieces.
Please tag any NSFT works (explicit sexual content) as "NSFT". Please use a "read more" for these pieces.
was pushing my friend around in his wheelchair and when we were going into the elevator we were chatting and i got distracted so i kinda just like. forgot. that other people would also be using the elevator. so i just walked in and realized ah fuck. his chair is bulky. we cannot turn around. and we just had to spend the entire ride facing half a dozen other people like this. its been haunting me for weeks
"RDD nine, hit." Noah says.
The EVO screeches, his hooked arms slamming into the asphalt. His strangely segmented body ripples with fury.
Bug-like EVOs are always the hardest to look at. Even before this, Noah wasn't much of a praying mantis guy. Creepy crawlies in general—eugh.
