Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
I want you to understand this. I NEED you to understand this. My mother read me the hobbit as bedtime story, and I started pushing myself to read before pre-school so I could in fact read the hobbit for myself instead of having to wait for bedtime.
I didn't do so right away but jesus wept I PUSHED myself to learn to read SPECIFICALLY so I could read The Hobbit! It is, in fact, a children's story! And children only see page count as 'there is a lot of this fun story to read!'

i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
tbh I kind of needed a sign to get off Tumblr and spend more time in the real world. I'm gonna log out for now.
maybe staff will improve these updates if we tank their analytics by bailing en masse? not going to hold my breath though.

like yes it's annoying when tumblr does major UI changes to make the site look more like twitter, but it's completely unacceptable to me when they do fundamental UX changes to make it to act more like twitter, turning reblogs into QRTs, destroying note aggregation, siphoning engagement away from OP, destroying the culture of yes-and reblog chains, etc. etc. like who is asking for this? did they ask users at all or was this a decision made in an investor meeting?
Griping continues: I LOVE when I find a post that so deeply resonates with me and I have a deep and genuine "Amazing post OP! Yes and yes and yes and--" and now I can't "Yes and" without stealing ALL the note engagement from my reblog onward??
No more engaging with OP? No more building up a communal post? No more stupid funny back-and-forth posts without bearing the stink that every person commenting is stealing the notes and the tags and compliments and the thoughts?
I have to shut up on everyone else's posts now. You all have to shut up on mine. I hate that!!! I like to talk and I like when yall fucking talk to me.
Everyone mumble in the tags forever I guess. Anyone who adds a comment unthinkingly gets shot in the street.
And like. One or the other has to win, right, if they do this? Either it's "No Reblog Chains Forever" or "Wanton Note Stealing Forever." Which one sucks less? Is it sadder to kill all conversation before it happens out of respect and consideration, or to go "Ah OP I love this post and have all these thoughts to tell you. Sorry that doing this is stealing the notes. Sorry. I wish it wasn't."
Do you just create a website of split opinions? Commenters who are wincing while doing it but genuinely want to express community and engagement, and OPs watching them with hostile disdain for stealing the fucking post?
I DID IN FACT JUST NOTICE THIS. WITH THIS POST.
MY REBLOG STOLE MY OWN FUCKING ENGAGEMENT. WHERE DO I CHECK THE NOTES ON THIS NOW 3-PART POST? FUCK ALL IF I KNOW
@staff @humans nobody wants your shitty UI changes and if we wanted to be on twitter we already would be. this will make the site worse
actually you know what? staff doesn't read posts
everyone who sees this, submit a support ticket. you go to Help -> Support, mark "feedback," and let them know how you feel about this change and whether this is likely to make you use the site less or more.

early on there was a cohort of tumblr users who would add what were functionally signatures to everything they reblogged, like ~💙 follow for more cool posts 💙~ and they eventually died out because everyone hated them so it's fun to see tumblr making a design decision that seems targeted at bringing them back
Since some of you don't seem to understand how this 'new notes' thing works, I'll break it down:
I'm the OP. I'm making this post. If you like, comment, reblog (without comment) on this post, then I'm the one who will see all those notes in my activity page.
However...
If you reblog (with comment), I will get a notification that you did that, but any likes/comments/reblogs (without comment) you get on that reblog will only be shown to you. As OP I won't see them.
If someone adds a reblog (with comment) to your reblog...as OP I won't see that. I won't see any of those notes in my activity page.
Basically, if someone with a large following makes a comment, then they will get all the notes and OP will see nothing. If OP has said something silly because they're, y'know, 21 and it happens, and then someone reblogs it onto the dash of someone with a large following who then dunks on them for fun? OP doesn't see it, doesn't get notes for it, but they're gonna get the harrassment for it in their inbox.
If I, someone with a 5 digit follower count, reblog something to correct misinformation on Ancient Egypt, then OP will never see it unless it was on the original post, but I will continue to get notes on that post even though it's not my post. If I reblog fanart, or just art in general, with a comment like 'Oh this is so lovely!' then OP will not see any of the notes from people reblogging it from me. They'll only see my reblog. So it's possible for an art post by someone else to have 200 notes for them, but 9000 for someone who reblogs it with a comment, and the OP artist will have no idea it's been seen by that many people.
It's killing blow to the community we've built here, by someone higher up who doesn't understand that being able to see all the comments and reblogs is what makes this site the place I keep coming back to.
That's what sucks.
I encourage people to go to tumblr's support page, select contact support, and then in the dropdown menu select 'Feedback' and leave polite and constructive feedback (for those of you who enjoy 'emails worded politely but are a strong 'are you an idiot?', try that way of wording it). They're more likely to listen to you if you're not an asshole about it. I've already gone and done this, and I hope others will too.
