Zack, because his mind biome acts as a natural, built-in firewall against understimulating conversations. He enters the conversation with the best of intentions though. But then three words in, Genesis uses a term like “the gift of the goddess,” and Zack’s brain immediately shifts gears. “Goddess. God. Heaven. The sky. The sun. Yellow. Chocobos. I wonder if a chocobo could beat a Kalm Fang in a race. If I painted my boots yellow, would it make me jump higher? That’s how placebos work. Placebo’s. Sounds like a store name. I need to buy more hair gel. Did I leave the break room oven on?”

By the time Genesis wraps up a twenty five-minute soliloquy on the tragedy of sacrifice, wiping a stray tear from his eye, Zack snaps back to reality, blinks, and realizes he retained absolutely none of it.

Cloud wouldn’t even make it past Genesis’ initial idea.

Genesis: Did you know, Strife, that “legend shall speak of sacrifice” actually implies a—

Cloud, gripping his temples: Wait. Wait... stop.

Genesis: What? What is it? Have the words finally pierced your stoic exterior? Have you reached an epiphany?

Cloud: I just...remembered...

Genesis, intrigued: Remembered what??

Cloud: That I don’t care.

*He leaves*

i cant help thinking about how light and L are so fundamentally disconnected from their own bodies,, they’re both just brains that happen to exist within a body. but they show it in opposite ways. Light maintains a perfect appearance simply as a tool because that’s what gets him what he wants and he keeps it up not because he particularly cares about it for his own sake but because without it he logically understands that he loses an advantage. Whereas L disregards his body completely, entirely ignoring it, he only does things that satisfy his mind and pays no attention to in which ways they affect his body, so long as he gets what he wanted. But as dn progresses light starts to act more like L. His plans directly hurt himself, the 50 days of torture and drawing his own blood to write with, but he doesnt care what happens to the body anymore as long as his mind achieves what it wants..
