'I'm worried.'

James's eyebrows rose.

'Worried? Since when?'

'It doesn't matter, Potter. Answer the question.'

James took a breath to the count of four, exhaled to the count of six. Black did sound worried. He looked from James to Remus on the dirty bed, and again to James. His eyes—like rough gravel at the bottom of a crystal-clear lake in summer—held a kind of open affection that James had only seen in Hufflepuffs.

'Yes, he's okay. He'll rest and get back to class.'

'I don't think so. The wound looks serious. Much more serious than last month. Perhaps I can accompany you? I've learned the silent walk spell, it works perfectly within these walls.'
