In short I was thinking about like an old tumblr post were someone was like: "HAha! I managed to cement my place in the poly house by always doing the dishes. now I live here rentfree! I just need to make sure no one realises I am not dating anyone. This house of cards is very unstable." But with the Bad Sans poly.

So the idea is that it is an message askblog. Which follows Nightmare (passive) who managed to infiltrate the bad sans poly house. and is hoping to be able to stay there and not discovered as he navigates college.

So the original like message is sort of like an "AITA for slightly lying to the poly i live with?" and then like. It continues on as Nightmare describes what it is like living there and answers messages (the asks) left on his original post

I will admit I REALLY like the recent improvements they've added to tumblr's search (you can exclude terms now!! you can search multiple tags!! and time frames!!) so it's not like they're incapable of adding useful features. it might be mutually beneficial for us as users if we were more vocal about things we want and don't want. Dream shot him in the eye with a positive arrow, by accident, and it left him permanently blinded

The eye is the one spot on a skeleton where the magic is pure and unprotected by bones, or in his case goop, so unlike when Nightmare would receive an arrow through the arm or leg (for example) and would heal after a while, the positivity was able to directly burn his magic through his eye, needless to say it was unbearably painful and the fight immediately stopped

The injury couldn't be healed due to it being pure magic against pure magic, all that the gang could do was stop the progression so Nightmare wouldn't lose his whole face, but his eye couldn't be saved and he will wear the scar his whole life

His "vision" is completely white, like if he was staring at a lamp in permanence, the only thing he can perceive is people's negative emotions that will appear as shadows, more or less dark depending on the amount of negativity, and if it is too negative the positivity in the injury will burn again and he won't be able to look for too long

The magic "bleeds" when his own negative emotions are too strong as it reacts to that, it causes the scar to sting as well

The war between the twins stopped after the accident, they didn't make a truce but Dream (who feels absolutely horrible for what he did) refuses to fight his brother ever again, and Nightmare rarely goes out anymore, and when he does he's never alone, he's always accompanied by at least one member of his gang

Dream never wished to hurt his brother like that, Nightmare moved at the last second when the arrow was already shot, what happened truly was an accident, but from Nightmare's pov ? Dream did that on purpose, and it resulted in him not wanting to be near his brother in any way, and the gang despising him for what he did.

Nightmare only goes on raids when the negativity is too low, but those aren't big raids because too much negativity makes the scar burn, so he only gets what he needs before leaving, and Dream doesn't ever stop him. Dream is haunted by Nightmare's scream of agony and refuses to even touch his bow, he never wanted to hurt him, and he doesn't trust himself with a weapon near his brother anymore, so he doesn't fight.

Dream had tried to talk to him but the gang always made Nightmare leave before he could, they don't want him to be near their boss. The only reason they don't attack is because Nightmare's safety is a priority and a fight isn't safe. If one day Nightmare says he wants to talk to Dream they will come with him but they won't ever leave the two alone.

The contrary actually ! Negative feelings show as shadows because Nightmare is "seeing" through a wall of pure positivity, and Dream ? Positivity himself, meaning Nightmare actually doesn't see him at all, which is even more terrifying for him, because he can hear him, feel him, but not see him. He can never know precisely where he is, if he is armed or not, if he is even there at all but staying silent, he has no way to perceive him aside from hearing or touching, and it causes Nightmare to have panic attacks when he hears (or thinks he hears) Dream near, because he can never know if he's going to take adventage of his vulnerability knowing Nightmare can't fight back.

The panic attacks also cause the scar to hurt as it reacts to his negativity, worsening his case and messing with his mind because the more it hurts the less he can focus, so Dream can attack easier, and it makes him stress even more, creating a vicious circle until his gang removes him from the situation and reassures him.

Nightmare doesn't just dislike his brother anymore, he is straight up scared of him now, he knows that alone he would stand no chance because he can't see him so Dream can do what he wants to him, and that terrifies him to be weak and defenseless again just like when he was a kid.

The gang works hard to help Nightmare, they make sure he has all he needs and can be as independent as possible because they know he hates feeling like a burden asking them to do things he could do alone before.

Drema wanted a truce!! Why would he EVER want to mortally wound his brother?! That is the furthest that he wanted! he wanted to understand him and for them to talk again! To heal and be BROTHERS again!! Why would he EVER want to do that?!

But worse is. that no one really believes that. People congratulate Dream for defeating Nightmare and doing what needed to be done. Dream feels sick to his very soul that people are celebrating Nightmare's pain. he hates it. he hates them. he hates himself the most for hurting his twin.

I image that when he hit nightmare, which nightmare started screaming in pure agony. that dream dropped his bow. Like it was burning him sort of drop. maybe he tried to reach nightmare but the gang was there quicker. shooting a blaster at him to get dream to back up when they quickly grabbed nightmare and left. That scream hounts dream's dreams. I can't imagine he sleeps well.

Nightmare is convinced his brother wanted to do that. he knows how good his brother is with his bow. there was no way that was an accident. And that is the thing that truly hurts. Even if dream never agreed wiht nightmare spreading negativity (which nightmare did to eat and survive and get energy to live) he never... nightmare never thought his brother would go that far. would end up hating him like that. enough to want to kill him.

and his gang makes sure he can leave! that he isn't hurt even more! The gang would be so protective too. like that is THEIR boss. he saved them! Gave them new lives and OPTIONS. Nothing those so-called heroes ever did! and then they hurt nightmare?! Like this?! just because he needs to eat?! fuck them!

okay i love that even more?! Dream is completely invisible to nightmare. and ngihtmare is terrified of his twin. because clearly dream already showed he had enough. that he WILL finish the job those villagers long ago couldn't. that Drema has decided that it is better for nightmare to not exist.

Dream as empath? Can feel that. Can feel the way nightmare is AFRAID of him. and there is Nothing dream can do to stop that.

and stop! nightmare getting worried about not being able to sense dream in time to get his gang to move him away. being so vulnerable. being unable to defend himself? yeah that is right back to that trauma. He is alone and he will be hurt and he wil be killed and he just wants to live and-

and then the gang wakes him up. they are close. they won't leav ehim. they will make sure he can still live and gets his food and energy and he is save.

Nightmare for a long time not even in his castle feeling truly safe. not unless one of the gang is nearby to be his eyes. to keep an eye out. to help him listen and percieve..

them all doing this happiyl for him.

Yes, people would congratulate him because to them ? Nightmare got defeated, he isn't out causing chaos anymore, the fights are over, he can't harm anyone like that, and he frankly got what he deserved, so people are happy with what Dream did, and Dream is horrified. He never wanted that to happen, seeing people celebrate it and congratulate him truly makes him sick, and he despises each and every one who finds joy in the situation. Dream would isolate himself from the Omega Timeline, he doesn't want to see people celebrating his brother being hurt, doesn't want to play nice to them, so he stays far and practically never visits. He kinda becomes a hermit from that point.

Everyone being convinced he did it on purpose already is bad, but his brother believing that too ? It finishes breaking Dream. And Nightmare truly is convinced it was not an accident, he knows Dream is skilled and never misses his mark, he saw the determined look on his face (the sudden pain and positivity made him miss the horrified look and guilt from Dream), so to him it is obvious Dream planned to do that, to hurt him in such a brutal way.

The gang would indeed be very protective, the will make sure nobody can ever reach Nightmare, especially not Dream, the only ones who are allowed are those who were already established as friends ( Error, Ccino, ... ), but nobody else.

Nightmare not being able to see Dream is terrifying to him, in his mind Dream is dangerous, nothing guarantees him that he's not gonna finish him off now that he's defenseless, and it truly brings him back to Dreamtale and awakens the trauma. His gang had to reassure him many times when he would get paranoid outside, even without Dream around, because any noise would startle him if he didn't know the source.

Dream can both feel and see this terror, and he knows he is the one who causes it. He hates it, and he hates himself.

Nightmare had lived in his castle for many many years, but to suddenly be deprived of his sight after such an accident left him nervous even between the walls, he can't see what is at the corners, doesn't recognize the hallways, ... and all that makes him reluctant to be alone, so at first he would ask for someone to stay with him, just the time he gets used to it. His gang never left his side, and they do their best to make everything feel safe again, make sure Nightmare can feel at ease again when at home.

The closest the twins can come to "peace" is that they are not fighting anymore. But Nightmare is terrified of Dream and Guilt is eating Dream alive. They don't talk, because Nightmare doesn't want to be close to him and Dream wouldn't even know where to begin to apologize in a way Nightmare would believe him.

I can imagine Nightmare making HEAVY usage of his tentacles to get around. Excessive tentacles extending as far as they can, negativity split thin and long in order to clutch the floor, the walls, the ceiling, the furniture, the boys, all to not get lost in his own home.

The castle has never been so spotless, because he's constantly acting as a feather duster sweeping the corners that nobody ever thought of. The boys take note of his dirty tentacles and new habits, cleaning the halls and rooms with greater detail to protect (and hopefully revitalize) what little survives of his dignity.

He barely even walks to start with, moving slowly with half-steps and frequent pauses as he loses track of where he might be. Then it graduates to careful walking before he learns confidence despite the constant anxieties he's fighting against.

The learning process is way easier with the boys around, but when they're not he sometimes is still reduced to going slowly, with stuttering feet and squirming tentacles.
