Some narratives in international development hold that ending poverty and achieving good lives for all will require every country to reach t
The conclusion, and one of the harder hitting parts of the article. Solving poverty does not require complex solutions and long timeframes.
I'm reminded of that one part in Frederick Douglass's autobiography where he gets to the north for the first time and assumed, since they didn't have slaves, that everyone was about as poor as non-slaveowning white southerners. And they weren't! There were poor people, sure, but there were lots of people living very comfortably or in luxury.
He mentions how angry it made him, that not only were thousands and thousands of people suffering to create luxury for a few, but that slavery wasn't even necessary for wealth to exist. That's really stuck with me.

βWith this approach, good lives can be achieved for all without requiring large creases in total global throughput and output. Provisioning decent living standards (DLS) for 8.5 billion people would require only 30% of current global resource and energy use, leaving a substantial surplus for additional consumption, public luxury, scientific advancement, and other social investments. Such a future requires planning toβ [text is cut off here].

Poverty is not an intractable problem that requires complex solutions, long timeframes and large increases in production and throughput that conflict with ecological objectives. The solution is straightforward. We need to actively plan to shift productive capacities away from capital accumulation and elite consumption in order to focus instead on the goods and services that are necessary to meet human needs and enable decent living for all, while ensuring universal access through public provisioning systems. We have framed this work around the concept of human needs, following the recent literature. However it is important to underscore that this approach is ultimately about far more than just satisfying material requirements for human well-being. Achieving decent-living for all is critical to enabling broader human capabilities, individual and collective self-realisation, full participation in society and politics and, ultimately, freedom.
what people donβt understand about how adhd is disabling is that itβs not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. itβs getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. itβs not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. itβs about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.

Cute little rainbow heart for pride month tumblr but how about you stop disproportionally banning trans women and marking sfw queer posts as mature

this might be the clearest distillation of how a politics of disgust detaches you from consequential reality.
When judging which of two things is worse, which is more harmful, and only one of the two has an actual victim that was materially harmed, that one has to be the worst of the two, regardless of how distasteful you find the other.
A belief otherwise is fundamentally incompatible with restorative justice, because in the case of "art I find distasteful" there is no harmed party with whom to make amends. Any "justice" sought here can only be retributive, can only push you into reactionary politics.
Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System??? more like Massachusetts Child Abuse System haha amiright guys?? πππ

So many works are like "this magical world is ONLY FOR CHILDREN, if you grow up, you lose your sense of whimsy and wonder BY NECESSITY and are FOREVER BARRED THIS WORLD OF WONDER. If you missed your chance as a child, TOUGH LUCK. A bitterly hopeless and dark view of adulthood."
Pokemon is like, you didn't get your chance to go on a Pokemon journey because you were raising your siblings for five years because both of your parents were deadbeats? One finally saw the error of his ways and came back! You can start now!
You're an old man who never went on a journey? You can start now!! Go out there with your flower-loving, skipping Treecko. You and your kid can both start your journeys with your little Starter Pokemon together, sure, why not?
You DID enjoy Pokemon as a child and have now grown-up, still loving them? You're a Gym Leader, or Elite, or even the Champion!
They should make a content label for ai posts like they do for mature content so I dont ever have to fucking look at it

Feeling chatty i guess.
Truely, the only path to utopia are <pokemon real> and gundam 00 quan[T]
Quan[T] is the more obviously/immediately effective path. Forcing psychic understanding between all people is appealing to me in a very "neurodivergent wish fulfillment" sort of way. Even better that it forces shitty people who've been using their dehumanization of other as an excuse to secure their own power to realize how terrible they've been.... and it also lets you talk to aliens. Very appealing.
Pokemon feels like a more realistic/imperfect situation. As well as one that allows for more individualistic freedom, as well as the troubles that come with that. Its ultimatly more appealing to me because of the value it places of individual expression and growth and the means it provids to achive those things.

Its making me want to become a teacher again out of pure spite.
When it comes to our current modle of teaching: There is far to much to list that could be improved. And in someways its good to have people who are experts in teaching a particular subject to a particular age/expertise level.
But.
Sometimes i wonder if the constant cycling in and out of students does harm to the teacher's ability to think of them as individuals.
As people. I think i noticed this as a student. I think a lot of kids do. Especially when you know the knowlege isnt the specified, its all kinda arbitrary. Especially for kids who get locked in with negative stereotypes. Even teachers where i feel like they did understand and "get" me, it was often in being compared "favorably" to my classmates in a way that was kinda very uncomfortable. Except in the rare situations where the teacher did "get" everyone in the class. The like. Two or three times that's happened in my life. Thats where the real shit would happen. I wish every class could have been like that. And i dont think its impossible for at least More classes for More people to be like that.
I get it. Teaching is difficult. And its difficult in a way that it shouldnt have to be. But i also think making and attempt to understand your students, even when they fucking suck should be like. The bare minimun for people put on these "general teacher" positions. And not like. Filling your classroom with decorative tat

People really just dont treat or even think of kids like humans huh?
Glimpsing an abyss
Its teachers talking about "theft" incidents with their students.
And the resulting "teacher of people (not just kids) in prison" talking about how much better and easier it is to be teaching "those people" than "kids these days"
