as a lover of historical fiction and art about women and horny art and silly art i am so so into this premise. everyone can't stop being like "ohh his is dick made of wood too" it's magic dumbass. i am obsessed with how this sounds like an obscure medieval european folk tale. peter dinklage plays a basketmaker with the power to bring life to inanimate objects for an spinste's sexual pleasure. suspend your disbelief about his cock and have a little fun
and the leading lady is played by a woman whose gay man. perfect movie perhaps
for those who haven't seen the trailer.
#I assume his dick is ribbed for her pleasure and well-lacquered#like yes I assume the wicker guy who is ostentatiously 100% wicker everywhere we can see also has a wicker dick#I also assume a basket-making wizard who can make a whole-ass articulated dude out of wicker in one month#while *also* keeping up with his bill-paying day-job baskets#knows how to make a dick where none of the pokery is anywhere near the jiggery#sorry to everyone who's only seen shitty big-box store baskets that are made out of spite and neoliberalism#his dong is wicker and also perfectly fit for purpose#wicker? I hardly knew her! etc.

OP: Are you familiar with China’s silk fabrics?
Cnetizens: I know there are ling, luo, chou, duan.
OP: It's actually eight major categories, ling, luo, chou, duan, jin, xiao, sha and juan, and countless variations exist under them in history. (绫ling,罗luo,绸chou,缎duan,锦jin,绡xiao,纱sha, 绢juan) (cr珑师傅)
绫(líng): It adopts twill or modified twill weave. The fabric bears clear mountain-shaped diagonal lines, featuring light, soft texture and subtle luster. It was the designated fabric for officials’ daily uniforms in the Tang Dynasty. The varieties of Ling appearing in Tang dynasty — Pattern Square Ling, Fish-Mouth Ling, White Braided Ling, Water Wave Ling and Checkerboard Ling(方纹绫、鱼口绫、白编绫、水波绫、方棋绫) — were all recorded as imperial tributes in the Tang Dynasty.. After the Song Dynasty, it was mainly used for mounting calligraphy and paintings.
罗(luó) adopts a unique twisted warp weave. Intertwined warp threads create star-shaped holes, making it highly breathable, known as "the natural air conditioner of silks". Four-warp twisted luó demands 30 procedures. Weavers can only produce a few centimeters a day. Suzhou patterned luó is an intangible cultural heritage craft.
The fabric worn by ladies in Beauties with Flower Hairpins is luó. It is the top sheer silk fabric with outstanding transparency, yet extremely costly. Handwoven four-warp luó is priced above 10,000 RMB per meter, harder to get than an Hermès bag. What makes it expensive? Thirty elaborate steps. Threads are twisted manually, with only 5cm woven each day. It was royal exclusive. In the Zhou Dynasty, only emperors could wear it. Noble ladies in Tang and Song loved luó, including Yang Guifei. Covered with star-like holes, it is breathable yet not see-through, keeping you cool in summer.
绸(chóu): Simple interlacing, tightly woven like a fine sieve. A major category of silk, using plain or modified plain weave, referring to silks without the special structure of luó, líng or duàn. Medium weight, tight, smooth surface with soft luster, prone to creasing. Thin chóu for blouses and skirts. Thick chóu for coats and trousers, widely used as embroidery base fabric and decorative material.
缎(duàn): Long silk threads rest on the surface, creating a mirror-like glossy sheen. It adopts satin weave. One set of threads stretches across the surface with long floats, covering evenly distributed interlacing points.
锦(jǐn)/Brocade is the most sophisticated silk textile. Its weaving consumes massive time and raw materials, resulting in exorbitant costs. Constructed with multi-layer warp and weft threads, it forms patterns with colored silk yarns through figured weaving techniques. It boasts raised three-dimensional motifs and a dense, heavy texture, making it the most technically challenging type of silk. It feels substantial and stiff, featuring dazzling, luxurious luster, intricate elaborate patterns, strong wear resistance and great shape retention. Laws in the early Ming Dynasty strictly restricted commoners from wearing high-grade brocade, which was mainly supplied to the imperial court and officials. By the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty, the booming commodity economy fostered extravagant customs in the Jiangnan region(generally refers to the area south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in eastern China). Violations of dress codes became widespread. Numerous wealthy landowners, merchants and affluent commoners ignored the regulations and wore brocade, figured flower brocade and gold-thread brocade. In short, it was prohibited by law, yet wealthy civilians could acquire and wear such fabrics in practice.
绡(xiāo) took shape in the Shang and Zhou dynasties and flourished in the Tang Dynasty. Extremely thin like cicada wings, it became the iconic fabric for overgarments worn by noble women in Tang China. It adopts plain weave or modified plain weave, featuring low warp and weft density, few interlacing points and neat, clear mesh openings. Xiao is usually woven from raw silk, granting the fabric inherent stiffness and structure. Lightweight and translucent, it holds its shape well without sagging, with open, breathable pores. In ancient times, it was used for outer cover gowns. Today, it is made into wedding veils and sun protection blouses.
纱(shā) is matured in the Han Dynasty and remained popular from the Tang and Song dynasties through the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was widely used for summer court robes, official garments and noblewomen’s attire. Generally woven in plain weave with sparse warp and weft threads, the fabric features evenly distributed tiny openings. It represents the lightweight, thin and sheer category of silk. Extremely light and breathable, it feels soft and flowing with natural drape. In ancient times, it was used for veils and outer overgarments; today it is crafted into lightweight dresses and veils. They may look alike, yet Shā is soft and supple with little rigidity. By contrast, Xiāo is woven from raw silk, firm and shape-retaining, and does not sag easily.
绢(juàn) is one of China’s oldest silk fabrics and a vital carrier of cultural heritage. It served as the base material for many famous ancient paintings handed down through generations. Woven in plain weave, it features warp and weft threads of similar thickness arranged in neat, uniform intersections. The fabric boasts high density and a solid, stable structure. Varieties include plain juàn, dyed juàn, and juàn specially made for painting and calligraphy. It has a fine, smooth, firm texture and great durability. Soft against the skin, it balances suppleness and structural rigidity. Its applications cover painting and calligraphy, cultural relic restoration, and minimalist luxury apparel.
There is another fabric category not covered in this video.
绉(zhòu) (ancient name 縠hú) first appeared before the Qin Dynasty and matured in the Han Dynasty. In ancient times it was called hú. It is the earliest silk fabric made with highly twisted yarns. Mostly woven on a plain weave base. Yarns are tightly twisted in alternating directions. After degumming, the threads shrink and twist, forming natural fine ripples across the fabric. It features inherent subtle crinkles and soft matte luster. Elastic and breathable, it does not cling easily to skin. In ancient times, it was used for summer overgarments and scarves. Today it is made into blouses, dresses and silk shawls.

I hate that ‘bad dream’ just means ‘nightmare’ instead of ‘shitty quality dream.’ I had a bad dream last night. It wasn’t scary it just didn’t make a lot of narrative sense
I was really hopeful that Gen Z would be the ones to break the cycle of talking about how Kids These Days are Everything Wrong In The World but folks are already being so negative about "gen alpha" and they're literally pre-teens
I keep seeing this specifically about manners, attention and literacy - three things that acting like being unskilled at are 100% on a child are genuinely BAFFLING.
Literacy...last I checked, children needed to be taught to read
They also have to be taught how to pay attention and how to have manners, but that's also not happening.
"Kids these days" are having their development utterly fucked over and people want to blame the kids that they haven't been taught shit about how to Be A Person, so they're just making it up and hoping they don't fuck it up because that will just get them in trouble/more blame.
I feel like being a kid has gotten insanely more difficult in many ways and we have to give these kids some grace and help them out where they need help.
like if they are being neglected by their parents and failed by their schools it is literally not their fault
yeah theres something to the fact that older folks will always complain about "kids these days" but also its part of being a community of humans that the younger ones will need help and guidance from the older ones
and being hateful and negative toward kids for things they can't control is bad. they did not ask to be born into this crap...
Plus the pandemic. It fucked up so many people but there's a sweet spot where it just completely decimates your social skills.
My mom is a psychologist and she's been seeing a lot of kids who did kindergarten or pre-k from home. That particular cohort has so many issues. I feel bad for them.
Reblog if you are Bad Queer Representation.
Don’t tell your daughter that when a boy is mean or rude to her it’s because he has a crush on her. Don’t teach her that abuse is a sign of love.
My mom always taught me yell or fight back. Boys would be mean and I would yell back. I would get my ass pinched and I would smack them as hard as I could.
Who alway got in trouble? Me.
They would call my mother and she always came in and lectures my teachers and threatened to sue for making her miss work and treating me poorly.
She always taught my brothers to respect women. The only fights my brothers ever got in was defending women from someone else.
The school tried to call my father once instead of my mother on us. He came in in his full preacher outfit (being a preacher and all) and gave them an entire sermon on what would Jesus day of he was called in. They decided dealing with my mom was better.
I think my favorite story of this is when some kid snapped my bra and I turned around, didn’t even think about it, and punched that little motherfucker right in the nose.
So naturally, I end up in the principal’s office, refusing to apologize.
“He shouldn’t have put his hands on me and I wouldn’t have hit him!” That’s the only thing I was saying.
These people had the unfortunate luck of catching my dad at home, instead of my mom. So he comes fucking sauntering in there, like he’s Clint fucking Eastwood in some western movie and looks at me.
“Melissa, did you punch him?”
“Yes.” I said.
“Why?”
“Because he snapped my bra strap.”
And he turns his squinty eyed glare to the principal and says, “You’re telling me my daughter is in trouble because that squirrely looking kid put his hands on her and she chose to defend herself? That’s what you are saying to me.”
“Well, sir-” The man kind of stuttered because my dad is kind of intimidating in the quiet sort of way that kind of whispers in the back of your mind that this person could be dangerous. “Melissa did make it physical.”
“No. That kid put his hands on my daughter. Are you saying my daughter cannot defend herself when some boy decides to put hands on her? Is that what you are teaching my girl?”
I didn’t get suspended that day.
*slow clap for excellent parenting*
This is the parent I want to be omg
I went to a nun school.
The nuns there were like, so rad.
It was a party organized for the end of the school year, and I was helping in the kitchen to prepare stuff with a nun and a bunch of little girls. There was one of the girls’ little brother who was there.
There was a little girl who was carrying a bowl of tomato sauce and was going outside, but the boy was just in front of her and he slammed the door in her face. She dropped the bowl on the floor and got all messy.
So what happened?
The nun went outside, took the boy by the arm, and gave him an epic speech going around the lines of: “Would you treat the Virgin Mary like that, young man?” “Nnnnno…” “Then treat every girl like she’s the Virgin Mary.” Not only the boy had to apologize to the little girl, but he also had to clean up and he was put on kitchen duty for the rest of the day.
Then another day, in catechism class (I was a in a girls’ school, mind you), the nun was there telling us: “If a guy touches you in a way you don’t like, punch him in the face. It’s not a sin against charity. On the contrary, you’re being charitable by showing him he’s sinning by impurity and you’ll save him from going to hell.”
So I was at my desk during class looking like this:
Reblogging for awesome dads and kickass nuns.
“you’re being charitable by showing him he’s sinning by impurity and you’ll save him from going to hell.”
What a mood.
Jesus said if guys hands were causing them sin-problems, they should cut them off. Face-punching seems like a good pre-amputation steps, to prevent it getting that far.
My mom told me a story about a guy she knew in college who would try to give "surprise friendly shoulder massages" to people (Interestingly, it was only ever women he was friendly to).
When he tried to do it to her, she grabbed his fingers and told him she'd break them if he ever touched her again. He didn't.
More recently, when I was in high school, a teacher was asking questions about my disability. After several attempts at redirecting I told him to go to hell.
The school called my mom, who said "A grown man was asking invasive questions about my daughter's body and you think *she's* the one in the wrong?"
She also taught me the finger-breaking trick, just in case.

i’m really mad that the jurgen leitner video has permeated my brain so hard but is virtually unknown outside of a very small internet community. sometimes i’ll be sitting around talking to someone and want to quote/paraphrase ‘i am just mad because i am angy’ or ‘is he dead? is he a bastard?’ or ‘’now you fucked up’ in ancient yiddish’ or even ‘avatar of the whore’ or any of the other frankly iconic lines but they’re too distinctive people will know i’m referencing something and then i’ll have to explain that i am referencing a recording of a rant someone went on about a minor character in a podcast but also that that recording is the funniest single piece of media in existence source dude trust me
for people asking for a link bc they’re new or hadn’t heard of it before now here u go and yes i realize i am treating you to both the pinnacle of comedy and a soliloquy worthy of shakespeare himself all rolled into one two minute video. you’re welcome
I once asked a Yiddish professor how to say "now you fucked up", preferably in an archaic way.
Then I had to explain why. In front of several prominent academics and my parents.
He couldn't even come up with a good translation.
would y’all ever date someone with the same name as you?
I’m sorry for adding directly to a post but I went to a wedding once where the groom’s name was Loren and the bride’s name was Lauren and at the end the officiant was all “introducing Loren [surname] and Lauren [surname], husband and wife” and the entire assembled lost it
also sorry for adding on but at my high school there was a Dominic and a Dominique who were dating and everyone just called them “Dom and Dommer” which is honestly the funniest shit ever
My parents are both named Terry (spelled differently) but I’m pretty sure that’s one of the reasons my mom never changed her last name.
People would call and ask for Terry and child me would be like “boy or girl?” And they’d panic and hang up. My mom found this endlessly amusing.
Why would you leave this GOLD in the tags??
Had to submit it to the tags for peer review
Used to live next door to a gay couple who were both named Scott. Then they adopted twins named Tayler and Tyler.
happy if you have scholarly inclinations there is usually something wrong with your sexuality july
fascinated by the demographic of content creators in their 30s making content about high school not as a skit but talking like they're actively in high school. like talking about what other hypothetical students are wearing and judging it
all the comments are mostly actual teenagers making fun of op too so i'm so curious who the target demographic is
I love finding out about some new stupid thing people are doing on another part of the Internet that I'd never heard of before today and likely won't be exposed to ever except by proxy.
It's a bit like going through a book of medieval torture equipment.
Tbh an exploration of the reasons behind this law, cultural opinion of it, enforcement, and societal affects would be fascinating. Trying to ban sex is, historically speaking, impossible to do on any real scale.
If I were making this movie, I would have people defending this law with the sort of holier-than-thou dismissal people use in current discussions on banning porn. Are you really that horny that you can't wait? Sounds like a you problem. Studies show that people who have sex outside the Day are unhealthy and unfulfilled (because we send them to prison camps). Of course the government has the right to regulate this, what if a single person was having sex and a kid saw it? This gooner wants to have sex in front of children! Doxx them immediately!
Additionally, I would make the focus couple queer, interracial, or both, drawing on historical situations where sex between consenting adults was illegal for whatever reason. Maybe include a kid born to an unmarried mom with a birthday in the wrong time of year to have been conceived on the Day.
Basically a long exploration on how the government has no right to interfere with our bodies. The more uncomfortable the audience is with the level of surveillance required to enforce this, the better. At least one scene where the couple are dragged outside half-dressed by the police and arrested. It wouldn't be sexualized at all. Instead, their nudity would be symbolic of vulnerability and loss of privacy. Parents scowl and cover their children's eyes, even as the police refuse to allow them to cover themselves in intentional humiliation.
Every time I hear about this movie I come up with a new way to make it a scathing societal critique. There's so much potential we all know no one in Hollywood will ever touch.
Okay watched the trailer and this is officially the straightest straight people nonsense I've ever seen.
All that talk about trying to find "something real". Wtf. It is the sex night. Find someone hot, fuck their brains out, and worry about true love tomorrow. Or, y'know, just stay home tonight if you're looking for true love.
The flirting is forced and wooden. It doesn't feel like these people even enjoy each other's company, let alone are attracted to each other.
There's this thing I've seen straight people express from to time that I think this movie is a good example of, which is dissatisfaction with the mainstream American cishet dating scene but complete refusal to even think of trying something different.
There's a lot of people who say things like "oh, dating, tinder, etc is so stressful, but the only alternative is dying alone so I guess I have to do it" which I just find incredibly bleak. There ARE other options. I'm not even just talking queerness!
If what you want is someone to go in on starting a "traditional family" with, you could go old-school and hire a matchmaker, or get your parents to set you up with someone. It's very common even today in many cultures, and arranged marriages are about as likely to work out as self-chosen ones. There's a lot of stigma in the western world, but if all you're looking for is to get married, it's certainly an option.
If you want casual sex, you can just... Have casual sex. With someone else looking for casual sex, with a professional, or in an arrangement with a friend. Modern contraceptives keep the risk remarkably low.
If you want kids, you can have them. It's admittedly easier if you have a working uterus, but between technology and adoption many people can be a parent on your own.
If you don't want to be lonely, move in with a friend. You already like them, and it's cheaper than having coffee and fancy dinners with a succession of strangers hoping you'll magically meet "the one" and know immediately.
If you want a deep, romantic bond... Why are you trying to form one with a stranger? Your odds are probably better if you look for someone who shares an interest with you. Join clubs, do community service, go to festivals. Enjoy your life. Find someone you like spending time with even if you don't feel woozy looking into their eyes.
I feel the inherent ridiculousness of this movie is drawing off the growing awareness that dating in general is kind of ridiculous. Whether it's aware of that or not is an open question.

When I was at the movie theatre they were advertising a romcom where the premise was that unmarried people are only legally allowed to have sex once a year and that one, that one made me put my head in my hands.
It’s called One Night Only, it’s a real movie, and yes it’s very heterosexual looking.
That’s like, idk. A premise for a fanfiction porn intro written by a fifteen year old.
I feel like this premise could be salvaged if you piled on the allegory.
"I'm in love with this person but the government forbids is from being together or showing affection" has been a reality for countless couples throughout history.
Interracial couples. Queer couples. People who aren't allowed to marry outside their religion.
They're not going to do it, but it would be really interesting.
