Some AAVE speakers pluralize 'child' as 'childrens'. People get racist about this ("It's already plural!"), but 'children' actually comes from Middle English speakers doing the same thing: slapping their plural marker on word already pluralized by an extinct plural marker.
To oversimplify: in Old English, 'childer' ('Δildra') was the plural of 'child' ('Δild'). Middle English developed an '-en' plural marker, which we see in 'oxen'. Instead of updating to 'childen', people slapped their preferred '-en' onto the end of 'childer' - so now we have 'child-er-en'. AAVE carries on this tradition with 'child-er-en-s'.
"Pure" language is just impurity obscured by the passage of time.

so I understand why Burrich married Molly etc etc, but I think it's a stretch to say that he didn't do *anything* wrong with that whole thing... like he literally made Fitz go into Nighteyes, then pulled him back and brought him back to normal and as soon as he and Chade know that Verity lives they basically tell him "well fuck that peaceful quiet life you think you want, you're a horrible person if you don't go to Verity now" after Fitz already gave up his life once and when he reacts with a big outburst afterwards (literally after running off with his wolf first) they just decide to abandon him. He had only been himself for a short period of time. He was still so vulnerable, to being attacked or to returning to his blurred wit-bond for relief. He's obviously not feeling fine. Also he's at risk for being executed if anyone recognized him alive. At the very, very least, Burrich owed it to Fitz to stay with him until Nettle was born, and then tell him about his and Molly's daughter.
But of course then Fitz wouldn't have saved the world, so that couldn't happened -- but yeah Burrich messed up, and considering that he and Molly had both left him and not told him about his daughter, Fitz had every reason to think that returning would only screw up the happy family he wanted his daughter to have. His reasons were probably even more valid than Chivalry's reasons. He has every right to be quietly angry with and hurt by Burrich, especially since he still loves him and never voices those feelings in a way that weaponizes them.

I keep seeing the "chat is a fourth person pronoun" post and it's getting increasingly hard to avoid starting discourse in the notes of it. chat I don't think they know what these linguistics terms they're using mean
it's literally just a noun. the reason it grammatically doesn't feel like it means the same thing as any existing pronoun and must be in a different category is that it's not a pronoun. it's in the same class of word as "gang" or "folks" or "ladies and gentlemen". there's nothing new going on here it's just an ordinary noun being used like a noun.

A: yes, but people don't use it as a pronoun so it isn't one.
Q: are you trying to police how people use words?
A: no, I'm describing the ways words are used. if people were actually using "chat" as a pronoun I wouldn't have a problem with someone describing it as a pronoun, because it would be a pronoun.

A: no, obviously you can do whatever you want. however, if you did hypothetically use "chat" as a neopronoun, it would be third person, and this isn't even remotely similar to the use case being described as a "fourth person pronoun" by the post I'm talking about.

A: no, it's a noun.

A: that's a case, not a part of speech. any noun can be "a vocative" in the same way any noun can be an object.
Q: does "chat" mean "y'all"?
A: so close! "y'all" is a pronoun which, being a pronoun, can take the place of a noun in a certain context. "y'all" is second person plural, so if the context "chat" is being used in is that you're talking to a group of people (real or hypothetical) that you're calling "chat", it can be replaced with "y'all". however, this doesn't mean that "chat" and "y'all" are synonyms, that's just a pronoun doing what pronouns do.
Q: everyone who's calling it a fourth person pronoun is joking, so you shouldn't take this so seriously
A: if they're joking in a way that's literally indistinguishable from spreading Real linguistic misinformation the result is the same either way.

I know Fitz and Burrichβs relationship is very complicated and far from perfect but when Burrich shows up on Aslevjal it really strikes me that thatβs the first time in like 3 books where someone has actually shown concern for Fitzβs wellbeing and outrage at the way heβs being treated. Like yeah he passed on a lot of his own unresolved issues to him but Burrich actually cares about Fitz more than the schemes and machinations of the Farseer family, which is more than you can say for a lot of characters in Tawny Man.

we don't even call grammatical genders the same thing as gender genders... like do people just not notice that it's "feminine" and not "female". those are different words
"grammatically feminine" doesn't mean "this thing is culturally female" it means "this word grammatically has the same article and associated adjective endings (etc) as the word for 'woman' in this language"
that nonbinaria/nonbinario post is so frustrating because like. yeah, it has a different grammatical gender depending on the gender of the word it's being applied to. it's an adjective, that's how adjectives work in languages that have grammatical gender. persona nonbinaria, but humano nonbinario. it's not about "girl nonbinary" and "boy nonbinary".

While some of this argument is valid (feminine gender may simply mean "the endings we use for the word woman apply here", although it's actually much more complicated than that if you take into account the real historical origin of the feminine in mother languages like indo European, but not getting into this here), it's rather dishonest to claim that grammatical gender in languages like Spanish don't at least *sometimes* mirror the supposed gender of the referent nowadays. And just like everything related to gender, what matters is how we do things NOW, not how they came into being.
The nonbinario/nonbinaria conundrum is very much real, because you're supposed to choose the gender depending on who you're talking about in sentences like "soy nonbinari_". Typically words referring to human beings tend to be binary pairs in languages like Spanish, where you have to choose the ending depending on the real gender of the real person, not just the noun it agrees with: for instance, saying whether someone is "un enfermero" or "una enfermera" (male or female nurse) is not about what noun something agrees with. So yes, it totally is about avoiding "girl nonbinary" and "boy nonbinary" because that is absolutely what nonbinaria and nonbinario CAN mean in a lot of contexts, outside of the minority situations where they agree with a neutral-meaning, but grammatically gendered noun like "persona".
This is the root of the current discussion in many romance languages on the subject of "inclusive language", "neutral language", "nonsexist language", etc. Spanish speakers have for instance considered using innovative endings such as -e or -x to talk about nonbinary people: es nonbinarie / es nonbinarix. That's the reason for the Latinx word most people have heard about.
The argument that "grammatical gender is not real gender" is often used to dismiss that discussion happening in feminist and queer spaces but it dishonestly ignores a gigantic part of how gendered languages work. So let's not spread it.

I never truly knew the meaning of friendship until I became chronically ill and disabled. When my health declined I had people leaving left and right because I couldnβt keep up with other teenagers. I stopped having people check on me, I stopped getting invited to stuff, stopped being included, until I just got left behind. Now as an adult I found friends who check up on me, make sure whatever we do is accessible to me, always making me feel included, they are my support system.
Check up on your chronically ill and disabled friends, keep including them in stuff even if they have to end up canceling it. Being excluded for something you have no control over is horrible and no one should go through that.
one thing i wish ableds would remember is that, unfortunately disability doesn't magically pause for holidays, special events, or celebrations. just because it happens only once a year or you saved up for it doesn't mean that people are not disabled. the fact that a member of your group is disabled should have been included in the planning in the very first place because we can't just wing it or push through.
