the dog with the machinery heart murmur had an ultrasound which revealed he has pda dog with a massive lump on its neck (fna revealed it was full of blood) had it removed but after cutting it open to remove it it DISAPPEARED so it was literally just blood like a massive haematoma and the corotid artery (next to the jugular vein) looked weird so it could be a vascular issue

cat that has been lethargic and off its food, vomited a few times. abdominal palpation revealed a hard mass (which i got to feel!!!) which the vet said was either a very full bladder, indicating a urethra blockage, or a tumour. but probably not a tumour. the vomiting would be because of high potassium levels, the lethargy because of an electrolyte build up. cat needed to be on fluids asap because the full bladder could cause kidney damage. draining the bladder via a catheter was too expensive so the owners opted to have it put down.

biological internal fixation of fracture in german shepherd that had an rta, quicker recovery time than anatomical reconstruction, the limb is aligned and supported with this metal plate thing, titanium (2 alloys) screws are drilled into the bone fragments.
knocked out a cat for a dental but it had a massive tumour under its tongue so it was euthanised.
hamster with ovarian cysts causing pyo (a uterine infection) was spayed but a tumour was found on the liver so owners are going to decide whether to have it euthanised.
snotty cat with neurological issues, shaking head at stimulation which indicates cerebellar infection (cerebellum is in charge of fine motor skills)
cat with ulcer that isn’t healing so they’re going to stitch the third eyelid over it
vet work experience
don't use surgical spirit on small animals because it cools as it dries and it could lower the body temperature dangerously. use hibi scrub or iodine instead. cat had a leg amputated even though it could've been fixed bc it's a farm cat and it wouldn't cope with 2 months cage rest. amputation has a shorter recovery time (10 days). the femoral artery is tied off to prevent bleeding and a nerve (i forgot the name) is tied off to prevent chronic pain. pyroxia is high temperature. dog that collapsed had an ultrasound which showed a very large bladder so that was drained using a catheter. glucose was found in the urine which could indicate type 2 diabetes or kidney disease. blood test confirmed it was diabetes.

rat spayed and had a lump removed but it died during recovery, probably due to a blood clot dog with vomiting and some green object in its poop, blood tests showed a fat digesting enzyme was abnormal so suspected pancreatitis

dog with skin fold dermatitis on its lip, there was a sore tooth that was causing the dog to salivate more which was aggravating the skin so that tooth was extracted. I saw the lymphocytes under the microscope when the vet took a skin scrape!
dog with chronic vomiting and diarrhoea (~4 weeks) had an xray which didn’t reveal anything bad, an ultrasound which showed the stomach walls were thicker than usual, and a gastroscopy which confirmed it was gastroenteritis.
schirmer test done on a dog admitted for nostril inflammation, suggested neurodegenerative dry eye because one eye was 18 and the other was 0, there were also grass seeds in the ear.
hyperthyroidism is when the thyroid gland is overacting, causes excessive eating and drinking and pee, I felt the lump on a cats front.
signs of stress in a dog are yawning, licking lips, panting, the whites of the eyes become more visible.

exam results !!
soooo I haven’t posted in a very long time, mostly because it’s summer and so I’ve got no studying to do
since I’ve (kind of) been updating you guys on my revision throughout the year I think I should also share what I got out of it in the end
biology - A
it was a pretty solid A so I’m happy, did make a lot of silly mistakes though
chemistry - A
they used a paper that I’d already done as revision so it’s not surprising I got very high lol
psychology - A*
the only subject it was possible to get an A* in so I’m happy I did! buuut I’m dropping it so I don’t care that much
maths - ??? it was an external exam so I’ll find out on results day (17th August).
