What are you the God of again?
I know adverbs are Controversial, but “said softly” means something different than “whispered” and this is the hill I will die on.
I legit was like “how fucking tall and strong is the person in the alien disguise”

One of the most fun ways that literature has influenced our language is the word "wight."
In Old and Middle English and in some conservative dialects of Modern English "wight" just means "person." Sort of like "dude." It *can* refer to something supernatural or spooky, but it doesn't necessarily.
But see, J.R.R. Tolkien (because of course it's Tolkien) loved adapting archaic or obscure words into his modern fantasy, and he coined "barrow-wight" to refer to animate spirits (wights) dwelling in old tumulus graves (barrows).
But of course most of the people reading Fellowship had never encountered the word "wight" unless maybe they'd heard it while visiting their granny out on the wild moors of Old Fuckingcesterworthshire, so the word re-entered the mainstream lexicon with a new definition that Tolkien had unwittingly given it.
The same thing happened with Shakespeare and the word "weird". The Old English word wyrd meant "fate", but this word died out when the word "fate" was borrowed from French. Centuries later when writing Macbeth, Shakespeare called the witches the "Weird Sisters"; that is, the three Fates. But the word had been dead so long that most people didn't know it was supposed to be a noun, so they thought "weird" was an adjective describing the sisters...hence, its modern definition.
no one fights like jim kirk
from great heights like jim kirk
no one’s style of weird combat delights like jim kirk’s
for there’s no one as defiant of gravity
he’s perfect. a pure paragon
Jim Kirk is unaware of the invention of “punching”.
Oh he’s aware, he just chooses to yeet his body at opponents to throw them off their rhythm. its STREET SMARTS
Exactly
sometimes u just have to say ‘tragic’ and move on

Me @ writers: you just make that shit up from your brain???
*squints at the three lines in Word that have remained unchanged for weeks* In theory
I made this post to compliment writers and it somehow turned into 60,000 notes of them calling themselves and each other out.

nothing will ever even come close to touching the humor + perfect execution of the question “is jake gyllenhaal gay?” being met with the response “why would you ask us, a narnia blog, this”
Daniel Howell: I will have the most iconic coming out video of Pride Month 2019.
Eugene Lee Yang: Hold my beer.
Daniel Howell: I absolutely will because sharing our experiences is difficult and what we are both doing is brave and has a huge impact on the young queer people who look up to us so we are definitely not in competition also this is a lot of beer.
yes! this isn’t a competition! both of them were so incredibly brave for coming out to an audience of millions of people, after being in the closet for nearly their whole lives. they came out in ways they felt was best and most comfortable for them and if you’re going to compare the two, you’re being insensitive. we aren’t going to be pitted against each other, especially not during Pride month.
