I was presented with an opportunity to inspire others while also building my own esteem and self love. I'm thankful for that opportunity. To represent what is less represented. To build myself in a way I've been uncomfortable to do before. To not worry about how I look compared to others but to myself... Solidarity means unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest; mutual support within a group.... the amount of solidarity shown at the Pride for Black Live Matter March was incredible! The amount of solidarity in our world right now is phenomenal!! We are all on the same page. We are all screaming the same thing. The system is rigged like a carnival game and we are done playing against the odds. We want change in America. We want change in the world. We want racism to be acknowledged as a problem that needs to be fixed instead of dismissed. We want color to no longer be an issue. And we keep showing up to be heard. We're tired of arguing about something that shouldn't even be a thing considering how far knowledge has come. Stand with us like so many are. Learn with us, love with us, breathe with us. Yesterday, I went to my first protest and I watched as all of those worries of yours were calmed. I saw an abundance of people, mostly white, listen while black speaker after black speaker spoke to us about what's it's like being a black POC. Every story made me sad and happy simultaneously. Sad to hear what America has come to and how heartbroken these people feel but happy because of the strength of their wills and the courage in their voices. As a minority in a city so far away from home, it was a blessing to see what I saw. People united despite their skin tone or orientation. My friends of all colors showed up to support with me and it was just so appreciated. Love WILL win. Peace WILL prosper. An accurate representation of how I feel sometimes. Trapped in a cage made by society of what a gay man is and what a black man is supposed to be. I've never fit the norm but I've always been stereotyped. I was too "proper" to be black growing up or some thought I was too "masculine" to be gay. First of all... we come in all different skin tones, from all different backgrounds, and all express ourselves differently. Being black and gay, I get double scrutiny. But trust and believe I will never stop trying to make people understand that you can be whatever type of person you want. You can be the black you need to be in order to rise. You can be the gay you need to be in order to shine. Love sports. Love dance. Love video games. Love art. Love cars. Love music. Love knowledge.
