Create beautiful Valentine's Day memories with these charming and delicious decorated cookies. This simple recipe allows you to make heart-shaped cookies that are perfect for gifting or enjoying with loved ones.
Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Food coloring red, pink, and white. Royal icing store-bought or homemade.
Instructions: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Divide the dough into three equal portions. Add red food coloring to one portion, pink to another, and leave one portion plain. Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 350F 175C. Roll out each colored dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack. Prepare royal icing in different colors. Decorate the cooled cookies using the royal icing. You can pipe outlines and fill them in for a decorative effect. Let the icing set before enjoying or packaging the cookies.
