I had to take one of my babies to the vet this morning for an emergency low blood sugar and dehydration, possibly due to a tumor. please pray for a fast and full recovery and that if she passes she will be comfortable and peaceful as I will not be able to be there with her.
EDIT: SHE IS BEGINNING TO IMPROVE PLEASE PRAY THAT THIS CONTINUES <3
How do i start to believe?
itâs like tripping
Huh, TIL that the medieval Church condemned as heresy the belief that kissing was sinful because it was not a necessary part of the conjugal act.
@bean-doodle I thought you might like this one hehehehe
This is hilarious given the instacatholic discourse from the last two weeks

progressive catholics(and catholic adjacent people), i would love to hear some of the less talked about beliefs/opinions on anything!
i'm at the very beginning of my progressive catholic journey and i'm at the point where i'm developing my thoughts on different things so i would love to hear other people's interpretations to help me think critically in my thought process.
outside of queerness (maybe a few others) i really haven't seen much about progressive catholic beliefs, what about other aspects of relationships/marriage? or anything else? differing beliefs between progressives?
ive always thought that saying things like contraception and birth control âencouraged sinâ was a bit like saying that seatbelts and airbags encourage car crashes.
been swearing a little too much and am scaring the hoes As Such I will now be replacing my filthy tongue with these phrases
By the Saints
Friar Cobis
kill me yourself, Satan
Liturgical practices
Kingdom come (now)
I am evil so I musn't
cracked like a communion wafer
Come To The Altar
Sweet Baby Ray's
thanks to the devil
Going to the monastery
to the ninth circle
I believeeeeeeeee
Deliver us already
im collecting suggestions
cannot believe you don't have godblessit/bless it/blessings/any variation thereof which i think is genuine southern swearing and not just something i made up for christian summer camp
i said suggestions, not thinly veiled insults. queen, where did this 'tude come from?
Southerners are racist, and as a Marshmallow Muppet I refuse to adopt behaviors *ESPECIALLY LANGUAGE* that signal to my black and brown neighbors that I am an unsafe white person. Maybe a few more summers at camp (or around POC) would help...
Tell me you havenât been around southern Black people without telling me you havenât been around southern Black people. Especially the religious middle-aged and older folks. Thereâs nothing inherently insulting or racist about âgod blessâ/âbless itâ as a response in these contexts, itâs about the same as âgoddammit,â and isnât just used by white people. It started in Appalachia and the South literally as a replacement because people didnât wanna say goddammit.
Since youâre a self proclaimed âMarshmallow Muppetâ I lovingly suggest you become aware of the white and white presenting tendency to arrogantly judge and claim superiority just because you donât perceive yourself as racist. âSoutherners are racistâ really? An entire region of the United States? Do you know how many non white southerners there are? Do you know how many BLACK southerners there are? Southern sayings arenât inherently signals of being unsafe, and the variations of âbless itâ arenât even that southern and wouldnât be clocked as such by most people.
bouquetofrosys didnât have any attitude with you. None of the sayings are thinly veiled insults any more than goddammit may be. You, on the other hand, have exhibited quite a lot of passive aggression and disdain (your comment about âmaybe a few more summers at camp (or around POC)â in particular reads as cartoonishly arrogant. Do you really presume the person youâre responding to doesnât ever interact with POC? Just because they claim a southern heritage?)
Ignoring the fact that the sayings are used across the board and not just by white people, your dismissal is uncharitable and unchristian. âMaybe the rest of the union would like or care what you thinkâ is a harsh dismissal of a region struck by gerrymandering, election suppression and corruption by a select group of people, and dismisses the literal centuries of work done by POC communities and their allies here in the South fighting against the white supremacy embedded in our governments. Do you think the north is an exception? The Midwest? I recommend you look at the rates of Black murder by police and incarceration in those areas, the rates of voter suppression, the long history of racism throughout the entire United States.
âItâs so easy to dismantle your own white supremacy,â and yet youâre quick to dismiss the entire south under homogenized whiteness, erasing the lives and struggles of non white southerners. And yet youâre quick to claim the condescending pillar of self-righteousness as so many white âalliesâ do.
Have charity in your heart towards others. And maybe next time dismantle your sense of superiority towards the South just because the racism in your region is less nakedly apparent. If nothing else, perhaps learn how to charitably engage with people online when they are coming to you in a calm, neutral and non-insulting manner.

âSubvertingâ Catholic art? Oh, okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You log onto the internet and you post about how âWound of Christâ from Psalter and Prayer Book of Bonne de Luxembourg, attributed to Jean le Noir, c.1349, for instance, looks like a vulva because you're trying to tell the world that you enjoy Catholic art and imagery in an alternative, queer, risquĂŠ way that challenges Christian beliefs. But what you don't know is that that stigma isnât just a vulva. It's not just a mandorla. It's not just yonic. It's actually intentionally erotic. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that around 1297, Saint Angela of Foligno experienced a vision of Christ himself, who called her to put her mouth to the wound in his side and lick the freshly flowing blood. And then I think it was Saint Catherine of Siena who drank blood and a clear liquid from the wound before receiving a ring made from Christâs foreskin? And then graphically erotic encounters with the side wound of Christ quickly showed up in the writings of eight different mystics. And then the yonic interpretation of the stigmata filtered down through the illuminated manuscripts and then trickled on down into some pseudo-intellectual corner of the internetâŚwhere you, no doubt, fished it out of some Pinterest board. However, that interpretation represents hundreds of years and countless visions of religious ecstasy. And it's sort of comical how you think that you've come up with an idea that exempts you from Christian theology when, in factâŚyou're posting an image that was sexualized for you by the very Medieval saints you think youâre so different thanâŚfrom âsubvertedâ Catholic art.

important update post/followers please read:
I struggle a lot with figuring out my faith so for now Iâm going to be turning this from my original intention of a primarily helpol incidentally folkcath blog to a general religious blog where Iâm trying to figure stuff out, this will mean possibly general christianity and especially folk catholicism related posts, including ones talking about religious trauma. I know a lot of people in the helpol community have struggled with religious trauma I want to warn anyone who wants to avoid seeing such content and suggest you to block any related tags or unfollow me, if thereâs anything specific you would like to see tagged so you can block it feel free to send a message or ask.
on a more positive note I am hoping that using this account as more of a place for exploration will allow me to post/rb to this account more since itâs all an exploration and I hopefully wonât feel the need to restrict my posts/rbs to certain things as I did before!

If the thoughts of the future grip your heart and squeeze it until it bleeds, if the future unsettles you with a looming presence of dread, if you are so restless with the thoughts of what may be that you cannot focus on what is...
Seek out Apollon - the Heavenly Oracle, the Far-seeing, the Prophesying - for if he can look upon the future and still find reason to smile, surely, some of his insights can comfort your worried mind. He may not tell you what will happen word for word, as the decisions might not have even been made yet, but in your deepest rut of despair for the future, Apollon will find you there and reignite the flame of hope that was growing weak inside of you.
"It will be alright," He'll say, "Take my hand, and let us walk into the blinding light just over the horizon. We shall prevail, together."
đ Hestia Epithetsđ
Adhara's post introduction: This was supposed to be Friday's post, but I gor kind of ill and didn't managed to schedule this post, I apologize for that :( this weeks are being so crazy and overwhelming, unfortunately nobody told me that university could be so demanding of our time :(
Polýmorphos: multi-formed;
Polýolvos: rich in blessings;
PotheinotĂĄti: beloved;
VasĂleia: queen;
Voulaia: of the council;
Prytaneia: was the designation given to the highest magistrates of many of the cities. Which could imply that Hestia could be worshipped by these magistrates (or someone akin to what magistrates were in that period);
â Hestia doesn't seem to have much epithets, at least through the sources I usually search about Epithets; there wasnât much.
Adhara's random fact about the Theoi: As the goddess of the family hearth Hestia also presided over the cooking of bread and the preparation of the family meal. She was also the goddess of the sacrificial flame and received a share of every sacrifice to the gods. The cooking of the communal feast of sacrificial meat was naturally a part of her domain.
