“At last, when all of God's mysteries were fulfilled in him and his most holy soul was freed from his body to be absorbed in the abyss of the divine light, the blessed man fell asleep in the Lord. One of his brothers and disciples saw his blessed soul under the appearance of a radiant star being carried aloft on a shining cloud over many waters on a direct path into heaven. It shone with the brightness of sublime sanctity and was full of the abundance of heavenly wisdom and grace by which the holy man had merited to enter the place of light and peace where forever he rests with Christ.”
-St. Bonaventure, Life of St Francis of Assisi
“Francis,
the servant and friend of the Most High,
the founder and leader of the Order of Friars Minor,
the practitioner of poverty, the model of penance,
the herald of truth, the mirror of holiness
and the exemplar of all Gospel perfection,
foreordained by grace from heaven,
in an ordered progression
from the lowest level reached the very heights.
This remarkable man—
rich in poverty, exalted in humility,
full of life in the midst of mortification,
wise in simplicity,
outstanding for the excellence of the total conduct of his life-
this remarkable man God made remarkably renowned
in his life
and incomparably more renowned
in his death.
When this blessed man
traveled away from this world,
his sacred spirit,
as it entered his home of eternity,
was glorified by a full draft from the fountain
of life
and left certain signs of future glory
imprinted on his body,
so that his most holy flesh,
which had been crucified along with its passions
and transformed into a new creature,
might bear the image of Christ's passion
by a singular privilege
and prefigure the resurrection
by this unprecedented miracle.”
-St. Bonaventure, Life of St Francis of Assisi

Let’s pray for the Holy Father’s intention for the month July
Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be
If you're a Catholic who's faithful to the Church's teaching Magisterium, you've probably met up with followers of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvr
Archbishop Lefebvre insisted that his irregular consecration of bishops without Rome’s permission was carried out in a state of necessity. However, the Holy See foresaw the situation in which the archbishop found himself before he consecrated the bishops, yet still denied him permission to proceed with such an action. As Cardinal Gantin, on behalf of the Holy See, wrote in a letter to Lefebvre dated June 17, 1988: “Since … you stated that you intended to ordain four priests to the episcopate without having obtained the mandate of the Supreme Pontiff as required by canon 1013 of the Code of Canon Law, I myself convey to you this public canonical warning, confirming that if you should carry out your intention as stated above, you yourself and also the bishops ordained by you shall incur ipso facto [by that very fact] excommunication latae sententiae[imposed automatically] reserved to the Apostolic See in accordance with canon 1382.”
A mere discipline of the Faith, is a law, a custom or practice originating from the Church as a means of safeguarding the good order of the Church. To establish ecclesiastical discipline, the Church must ask herself: What is the most practical way of protecting the doctrine of the Church here and now?
In essence, the Holy See did not agree with Lefebvre’s analysis of the situation in the Catholic Church, namely that a sufficient emergency existed to warrant the consecration of bishops without Rome’s approval. This is an important point in resolving the dispute between Archbishop Lefebvre and Pope John Paul II, for where there exists a difference in interpreting the application of canon law, canon 16 states clearly: “Laws are authentically interpreted by the legislator and by that person to whom the legislator entrusts the power of authentic interpretation.”
In Lefebvre’s situation, he knew in advance that his interpretation of canon law in this case was not acceptable to the Roman Pontiff, who is the highest legislator. So even though Lefebvre disagreed with the Roman Pontiff’s interpretation of canon law, it nevertheless remained up to Pope John Paul II to interpret that law authoritatively. Therefore, because the idea of a state of necessity in Lefebvre’s circumstances was rejected by Pope John Paul II, I came to realize that I could not legitimately invoke the state of necessity canons in defense of Lefebvre’s consecration of bishops without Rome’s permission.
“In his blessed hands and feet could be seen the nails that had been miraculously formed out of his flesh by divine power. They were so embedded in the flesh that when they were pressed on one side, they immediately stuck out the other, as if they were continuous hardened sinews. Also the wound in his side could be clearly seen, which was not inflicted on his body nor produced by human means; it was like the wound in the Savior's side, which brought forth in our Redeemer the mystery of the redemption and regeneration of the human race. The nails were black like iron; the wound in his side was red, and because it was drawn into a kind of circle by the contraction of the flesh looked like a most beautiful rose. The rest of his skin, which before was inclined to be dark both naturally and from his illness, now shone with a dazzling whiteness, prefiguring the beauty of that glorious second stole.
His limbs were so supple and soft to the touch that they seemed to have regained the tenderness of childhood and to be adorned with clear signs of his innocence. The nails appeared black against his shining skin, and the wound in his side was red like a rose in springtime so that it is no wonder the onlookers were amazed and overjoyed at the sight of such varied and miraculous beauty. His sons were weeping at the loss of so lovable a father but were filled with no little joy when they kissed on his body the seal-marks of the supreme King. This unprecedented miracle turned their grief into joy and transported into amazement their attempts at comprehending it. So unique and so remarkable was the sight to all who observed it that it confirmed their faith and incited their love. It was a matter of amazement to those who heard of it, and aroused their desire to see it.”

The unauthorized July 1 rite in Écône, Switzerland, came despite Pope Leo XIV’s appeal to “please turn back” and could trigger automatic exc
A schism is a tragedy for any pope. In the case of Pope Leo XIV, it also carries a more personal resonance: The pope belongs to the Augustinian order, the same religious family to which Martin Luther belonged, whose break with Rome helped lead to the Protestant Reformation and the fracturing of Western Christianity.
The Pope is the point of unity for the Catholic Church. Unlike in Eastern Orthodox in which where Jimmy Akin points out, “… the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia is in communion with some Orthodox churches but not others (notably the Russian Orthodox church).”
Submission under the Pope determines who is within the Church or not. And submission under the pope is necessary for the salvation of the faithful, as stated by Fifth Lateran Council:
"Moreover, since subjection to the Roman pontiff is necessary for salvation for all Christ's faithful, as we are taught by the testimony of both sacred scripture and the holy fathers, and as is declared by the constitution of pope Boniface VIII of happy memory, also our predecessor, which begins Unam sanctam, we therefore, with the approval of the present sacred council, for the salvation of the souls of the same faithful, for the supreme authority of the Roman pontiff and of this holy see, and for the unity and power of the church, his spouse, renew and give our approval to that constitution, but without prejudice to the declaration of pope Clement V of holy memory which begins Meruit."
Leah Gardner
“Immediately
the holy man began
to reflect the light radiating from the face of God
and to sparkle
with many great miracles
so that the sublimity of his holiness,
which, while he was still in the flesh,
had been known to the world as a guide for conduct
through examples of perfect righteousness,
now that he is reigning with Christ
was approved from heaven
as a confirmation of faith
through miracles performed by the divine power.
In different parts of the world,
his glorious miracles
and the abundant blessings obtained through him
inflamed many to devotion to Christ
and incited them to reverence for his saint.
The wonderful things
which God was working
through his servant Francis-
acclaimed by word of mouth
and testified to by facts—
came to the ears
of the Supreme Pontiff, Gregory IX.
That shepherd of the Church was fully convinced of Francis's remarkable holiness, not only from the miracles he heard of after the saint's death, but also from his own experience during his life, having seen with his own eyes and touched with his own hands; consequently he had no doubt that Francis was glorified in heaven by the Lord. In order to act in conformity with Christ, whose vicar he was, after prayerful consideration he decided to glorify him on earth by proclaiming him worthy of all veneration. In order to certify to the whole world the glorification of this most holy man, he had the known miracles recorded and attested to by appropriate witness. These he submitted to the examination of those cardinals who seemed less favorable to his cause. This material was examined carefully and approved by all. With the unanimous advice and assent of his confreres and of all the prelates who were then in the curia, he decreed that Francis should be canonized. He came personally to Assisi in the year of the Lord's Incarnation 1228 on Sunday, July 16, and inscribed our blessed father in the catalog of the saints, in a great and solemn ceremony that would be too long to describe.”

thinking about how Jesus was plunged into the worst of humanity during His passion and death. and yet, in the midst of all that evil, we see glimpses of good. pilate’s wife trying to convince her husband to let Jesus go. simon of cyrene helping Him carry the cross. veronica wiping His face. the women weeping for Him. mother mary and john standing at the foot of the cross. joseph of arimathea burying Him. mary magdalene and the other women going to anoint His body. people trying their best to do good, even when evil surrounds them.
And let's not forget the fellow criminal coming to faith beside Him and the centurion testifying to His divine nature.
Makes me wonder if that guy eventually converted to Christianity. There were others like the centurion whose servant Jesus healed earlier in the gospels and another soldier named Cornelius who was in the book of Acts. And much later the legionary Saint Martin of Tours.
