"Hard not to when the self-proclaimed best lover on the Continent fantasizes about bedding me."

Geralt's smile only widened. "Didn't know you were into that sort of thing."

Jaskier stared at him.

Geralt leaned closer, entirely too pleased with himself. "Guess we'll have to explore that later."

"Oh, gods." Jaskier shoved lightly at his shoulder, fighting a laugh. "I've created a monster. I liked you better when you were emotionally constipated."

Geralt caught his wrist before he could pull away and kissed the inside of it, his eyes never leaving Jaskier's. "No, you didn't."

Somehow, it does.

Before either of them realizes what’s happened, the song has spread across the Continent. Other bards pick it up, completely missing the joke and performing it with the solemn grandeur of an ancient heroic ballad, apparently convinced that all the increasingly outrageous metaphors are about Geralt’s strength, courage and legendary deeds.

Geralt is horrified.

Jaskier is having the time of his life.

As a result, it is entirely unclear what Jaskier actually is.

The Pankratz family, however, considers this a perfectly normal state of affairs.

The manor itself is no less peculiar. The sprawling ancestral estate has been home to ghosts for centuries. Most families would find this alarming. The Pankratzes simply set extra places at dinner and learned which hallways to avoid after midnight.

So when Jaskier and Geralt receive an urgent summons to the family home, they expect the usual sort of problem.

What they do not expect is that the ghosts have gone quiet.

Suspiciously quiet.

The cheerful spirits that rattled chandeliers, argued over card games, and occasionally sang along to Jaskier's lute have vanished. Entire wings of the manor stand silent. Doors no longer creak open on their own. No phantom footsteps echo through the halls.

For the first time in living memory, the Pankratz Manor is almost entirely free of hauntings.

Which is precisely why Geralt has been hired.

Not to stop a haunting.
