Can you recommend your favorite jp fics from livejournal? I’ve read all the good ones on ao3 and I know lj is probably an untapped goldmine but the ui and navigation is so frustrating and confusing
The UI and navigation really is shit. I dunno how we did it for so long, tbh. If it helps you any, it's usually easier to use the jp-archive author index, even if it's still, you know, livejournal. Anyway, here are a couple of my favourites, just off the top of my head. Take it all with a grain of salt etc. general disclaimer about shit written in the early 00s:
Paul McCartney, Nude - John sort of smiles at the helpless, resentful need rolling out of Paul. He’s frustrated, flattered, and frightened by it. After all these years, to have such naked mistrust thrown at his sleeping back is a bit of a drag.
The Sixties Survivors Club - And for a moment, you can almost see him, John who never was, white hair, the knowledge of destruction and rebirth in his eyes, leaning back to enjoy the show.
Barcelona - Figures John would end up close to Astrid and Klaus, not Muttchen and Horst, an exhausted, irritated and somewhat spiteful part of Paul thought. Figures he'd be the one to end up close to Brian Epstein.
Above Us Only Sky - John makes something like a grin, but none of John’s smiles ever look real.
How You Were Diverted - They were supposed to mean more to each other than that. George didn't know how to look at either of them for awhile.
Please Don't Wake Me - And still there was Paul, walking backwards with a strange faraway look on his face, something hostile in the typically sweet bend of his mouth. George wanted to tell him not to worry about it so much, what good was it worrying so much about someone like John, but instead he yawned again, huge, jaw-popping, mind-fuzzing. He was so tired it was all he could do to keep walking, and he figured if it was really important he'd still remember to tell Paul tomorrow.
Revelation - And there it was, that knowing look. That look that always found him, no matter how he tried to hide. And he always did try to, even around her, though she saw through it. Bastard that he was, he made her work for it. He needed to be asked. Sometimes, if he found her effort lacking or was feeling secretive, he would leave her to worry.
