I know I’m just posting ANYTHING atp but I actually need to express this somewhere. I’m actually struggling to watch Buffy through because of how disgusted Angel makes me. I will NEVER be listening to “oh, he’s a vampire and so much older, age gaps don’t count here!!” Because how on EARTH does that make it better for you?? There’s not only the age difference, but the power dynamic between the two and the fact that he actively stalked her from 15 years old (so I’ve heard, I’m only on S1, but it’s the fact that I have been made to hate this dude so early which is the problem).
I came to this show to watch for Buffy and Giles because THEIR dynamic is not ILLEGAL, and also is one I am missing in my current life! I looked for comfort in the two and have definitely received it, but the fact that Demon over here is preying on Buffy is actually ruining what I thought would be a safe space. NOW, call me woke, a snowflake, or whatever, but what I have said is fact. Someone free my girl.
TLDR, I hate this dude. Someone slime him.
I feel like this is just a new generation mindset that looks into every little thing and see something wrong with it, There's nothing wrong with this. It's not that serious
It’s this fucking mindset that dismisses so many portrayals of predatory behaviour in shows AND in reality, because fiction does, in fact, reflect on the real world. There is undoubtedly something wrong with an adult character getting with another character who is a teenager. I can literally see you decided to ignore every single thing I said was wrong about their relationship, including their power dynamic, because there are psychological impacts that come with romantic/sexual relationships between adults and minors.
It’s quite literally people like you who cause the perpetrators in these kinds of situations to get away with their manipulative and predatory behaviour because it has become so normalised in fiction due to the character’s vague age that it does start reflecting on reality. Your words are such a danger to victims, and I’m appalled that someone would even dismiss a situation like this just because it’s fictional. I have no clue which gender identity the responder aligns with, but to avoid making this post longer than it is, I won’t yet get into how statements like these set back feminism by miles.
It IS that serious, because I have no doubt there are many teenagers going through this exact thing with no possible way to escape. I was honestly not expecting to get a response due to my account’s low popularity, but I’ll make it clear here - if you disagree with anything I have said in this post or the original, block or unfollow me immediately.
