it is very instructive to play both silent hill and resident evil videogames because they are very similar except for how silent hill is good and resident evil is stupid. it helps you figure out what is stupid in a video game and what is good
for example, in silent hill games, you are confronted with many weird baroque puzzles you have to solve to proceed, because that is the dark and creepy and confrontational nature of the world you are in. in resident evil games, you are confronted with weird baroque puzzles you have to solve because apparently, separate from and unrelated to the ongoing zombie apocalypse, the raccoon city designers designed the subway station map so that if you insert a red jewel into the correct diamond shaped recess, a drawer opens that contains a live hand grenade
Imagine being one of the parents for the kids in the Magic School Bus class. Getting those field trip permission slips home every single night.
Like what, another one? Doesnât she teach? This just says Inside a Dog
Ms Frizzle sending you one (1) permission slip at the beginning of the year to cover all the field trips and youâre like huh thatâs a little unusual but I guess itâs efficient at least and then you open it and itâs written like This
If youre a closeted person somewhere out there thinking "I want to transition but it would be less progressive/unique/countercultural for me to be that gender instead of this one" please know that you are a real person not a character in a narrative and cant live your life based on what is good media representation. You are real you can only be yourself and theres no moral weight to any identity over another
Liberal transphobes enjoy positioning trans identities as regressive compared to cis queerness or like non-transitioning transness or anything else they can leverage to make transphobia look progressive and I think its easy to absorb that message subconciously. But in real life we just are what we are and no ranking of validity can change the fact that you have an identity that is NOT chosen and is just your unchangeable truth. Not only should you not have to live a life dictated by what is most countercultural to identify as or whatever but also: being trans is extremely countercultural and feminist and leftist to begin with and theyre only trying to convince you otherwise bc theyre bigots
"Why cant you be a feminine man society hates feminine men đĽş" and "all the butch lesbians are becoming men we need u đĽş" = stay in the closet for the noble purpose of being an abstract representation point in my new york times opinion column. You wont actually be a gnc cis person youll be a closeted trans person who uses the wrong words but I need you to do that because i hate you

The really funny thing about "snakes aren't mammals your snake girl shouldn't have breasts!" is like yeah. Neither should your cat girl.
The fact that this is the line drawn is really funny! Human breasts are actually incredibly rare among mammals! We don't know exactly why humans have big bazongas but it's probably sexual selection, which presents the really funny problem
If your snake women having sex with people is normal and expected...then yeah, they're ALSO probably going to have something resembling breasts. They might even just have breasts in all but function.
Like yes, non-mammals don't make milk, but you actually don't need the whole kit that humans do in order to make milk. Arguably its not even the important part of the breast to begin with.
You also don't need to justify it at all you can just be a pervert about it.
We actually have another theory why human breasts are like that, and it's because of our flat faces.
Most mammals have, compared to humans, an elongated jaw. So a little tiny bump of a mammary gland is fine, just enough to get the nostrils away from the teat, and the young can freely breathe while nursing. However, as humans started using fire more and more to cook food - which softened it up, rendering powerful jaws less necessary - their jaws began to shorten, resulting in the development of the chin and other unique facial structures as the face flattened out.
This, of course, meant that babies could suffocate while nursing, which would obviously be bad. But what if... what if nipple further from chest? Bigger bump, so baby's nose have spot to go that isn't directly into mommy's chest? Oh, turns out that works! Of course, as more and more fat stores become dedicated to growing that breast mound to keep baby from suffocating, it becomes harder and harder for the mother to reabsorb that tissue when not nursing (as many other mammals do), so they just... don't. Knockon effects from there, and bam. Tiddies.
Which means if your cat girl has a flat face she probably should still have boobs but if she's got the full muzzle, not so much.
That's actually really interesting honestly.
what if we all explode

In 38 years of life I have learned 1 thing;
If anyone is ever training you to replace them in a position and tells you 'its an easy job I don't do much' what this means is that you are about to spend six months to a year catching up on all the stuff they didn't do and sorting out the stuff they did poorly.
In related news I finally managed to finish un fucking my predecessor's lack of a filing system.
And if they start a sentence with "You're not supposed to do it this way but...", you're about to learn some shit to make OSHA go:
My job is literally in safety and emergency management and that phrase makes me break out in hives. Which is to say that you are entirely one million percent correct.

You are either going to the bathroom with me or going to the bathroom against me
yall i swear to god if a bitch says her pronouns are she/her then her pronouns are she/her
my close friend from uni was a cis girl who had the audacity to wear pants and cut her hair short and like nobody at this school, a place OBSESSED with ârespecting everyoneâs gender identities,â would call her âshe.â after MONTHS of this she started wearing a fucking pronoun pin to work and i dont even think that fixed it. me, im sorta androgynous; i have shaggy self-cut hair and go by a neutral name, but i always say my pronouns are she/her, and people ive worked with for months and have introduced myself in front of fifty times will STILL reflexively say âtheyâ for me. i respect the progressive circles i run in, but this IS evidence of misogyny. peopleâs definition of âwomanâ or âgirlâ is so narrow and high-maintenance that even the tiniest deviation from the norm gets you forcibly defeminized. but itâs a compliment, right? like who would wanna be a girl anyway?
replacing an inescapable gender binary with an equally-inescapable gender trinary is stupid đЎ
like to charge, reblog to cast.
me: [writing something] shoot... what's this woman's pronouns?
stenographer: well her bio says she/her...
me: better play it safe anyway [writes "it"]
the ghost of marie curie: [appears out of thin air] ivy... you're the first person to ever correctly gender me in a hundred and eighty-two years. from the bottom of my cold dead heart, thank you.

Back in the early 2000s there was a whole movement about listening to your body, and being the expert in your body, and then that just stopped because it turns out doctors do NOT like it when patients say they know something.
Image description: A screenshot of the symptoms of 'factitious disorder,' from the Mayo Clinic. The symptoms are listed below alongside my discussion of them.
This is the 'condition' that used to be known as Munchausen's.
I am not claiming that nobody ever fakes being sick. But it is vanishingly rare compared to the number of people who ARE sick, but doctors refuse to take it seriously.
Let's take a look at some of these. How can they tell if the medical problems are 'clever and convincing' or just... real, if it's one of the hundreds of conditions that don't show up in a clean cut way on imaging or labs ?
'Deep knowledge of medical terms and diseases' is much more commonly a symptom of being forced to do your own research because doctors refuse to help you figure out what's going on. I have deep knowledge of certain medical terms and diseases. Wish I didn't have to.
'Vague or inconsistent symptoms' - you mean like those that occur in, once again, the many conditions doctors like to ignore and dismiss because clear objective diagnostic measures don't exist yet? Like they did with multiple sclerosis before they invented the MRI?
'Conditions that get worse for no clear reason' - sometimes the reason is pretty clear! Medical neglect! And many conditions worsen for no obvious reason. Do they not understand the concepts of progressive,' 'degenerative', or 'relapsing-remitting'?
'Seeking treatment from many healthcare professionals' - it's almost like if a doctor dismisses your symptoms or refuses treatment you might need to look for another?
'Not wanting healthcare professionals to talk to family or friends' - Many chronically ill people live in abusive situations and/or with people who do not believe they are sick.
'Staying in the hospital a lot' - Because you're sick and no one will provide appropriate treatment outpatient. Because they don't believe you. So it escalates to hospital severity.
'Desire for frequent testing or risky surgeries and procedures' - It's almost like people want to find out what's wrong with them? And get treatment for it even if it has risks?
'Many surgical scars or evidence of many procedures' - Sure yeah let's just demonize people for having had medical care. Alright.
'Having few visitors when in the hospital' - Yeah, definitely if a chronically ill person experiences social isolation or abandonment they must be faking. We definitely don't live in a culture that isolates sick people.
'Arguing with healthcare professionals and staff' - And this is the one that inspired my addition to this post. G-d forbid we know anything about our bodies or advocate for ourselves.
Someone I care about very much was recently 'diagnosed' with this despite massive evidence of life threatening, untreated medical conditions. This diagnosis can kill people.
leebrontide, please pardon me if this was more than you bargained for when you made your post. I've been thinking about this a lot recently and you inspired me to talk about it.
i genuinely have factitious disorder (i'm in recovery but yes i have fully and knowingly faked things before and no i was not just convinced by someone else that i faked them) and something that bugs me a lot about this is that for those of us who actually have it, we are offered nothing in the realm of proper treatment or even recognition of the real underlying cause of our disorder.
my factitious disorder is a manifestation of my dependent personality disorder, i faked things because i was desperate for care and attention because i experienced childhood trauma and dysfunctional parenting that primed me to have an extreme need for social proximity, attention, and care from others. this is the case for many of us. but most professionals don't want to put in the work of recognizing this, so they dismiss us as evil and hysterical and refuse to look any deeper.
people who dismiss attention-seeking behaviour as evil/selfish are ignoring that humans are on the average profoundly social creatures who NEED support networks and positive relationships to stay sane.
even a neurotypical person feels pain from brief neglect or loneliness; when adolescents or adults have broken brain chemistry (from abuse or illness) that forces them to excessively seek attention, it's usually a symptom that they're struggling and in pain. Doctors and caregivers have an obligation to investigate, rather than condemn these self-regulation behaviours as 'whining' etc.
âdonât take it personallyâ how would you like me to take it then? professionally? romantically? academically?
