Sometimes when I clean my refrigerator, I will find a vegetable that's sprouted. I plant it outside in my garden.

I grin whenever the garlic sprouts in the wet season. I'm currently following the progression of a yellow onion with extreme interest.

The leaves were pale white-green when I discovered it. When I planted the bulb in the soil, the stalk was parallel to the ground. Now it's dark green, and the stalk is reaching up towards the sky. Sometimes I wonder how the plant felt when it first tasted pure sunlight instead of a refrigerator lightbulb.
