Sith Empire Army & Navy Rank Structure and Insignia
So I’m making a bigger post at some point covering the organization of the military of the Reconstituted Sith Empire, but there’s a lot of work to do there. Here’s a quickie post expanding the rank structure of the Army & Navy (because frankly what Bioware gave us was shit).
What Wookieepedia provides is woefully inadequate and far too top-heavy. NCOs and senior NCOs are the backbone of the military for a reason. Thus, I filled out the ranks with more enlisted ranks, and far more senior NCOs. The officer-to-enlisted ratio is 1-to-8 in both branches.
The point of rank insignia is to make it easy for someone to identify you by your rank, and thus your manner of address, within the military. Thus, unlike what Bioware did, it’s important that every rank have its own insignia, and it’s also important that the standard for the rank insignia conforms to a pattern or standard. As an example, this is the rank structure of the United States Marine Corps. Even in that small an image, you can see the difference, and the pattern.
For both the army and the navy, I’ve kept the same base insignia. The distinguishing factor is a device displayed on the collar since the Imperial military wears their rank on their chest.
This doesn’t include moffs. Moffs are interservice personnel, functioning similar to a five star general or a field marshal, and report directly to the minister of war. Their rank insignia and device are both different from the army and the navy, and will be included in a future post.
Yes, I know that the “canon” rank insignia in Star Wars movies is horizontal, not vertical. However, the Galactic Empire and the Reconstituted Sith Empire are two different things and wholly unrelated. This is based off the rank insignia used in SWTOR.
